Jim was such as ass in season 3!
He spent the whole year playing the poor me card while he completely ignored the entire reason
he was he was having problems with Pam was because he started them in the first place.
A part of me wanted Roy to kick his ass. LOL
I loved that Pam started to get mad at him, and
push back at Jim instead of just taking his crap.
Jim claimed to be in love with Pam, but has no problem being with another woman and shoving it Pam’s face. It’s no wonder Pam doubted Jim’s feelings for her.
It also annoyed me when people acted like Karen was so great. I found her to rather pathetic.
Karen spent half the season not seeing what was right in front of her and the other half clinging on to Jim like a teenager with a crush.
The Jim of Season 3 didn’t deserve Pam.

I like how Pam actually stood up for herself against Roy.
That’s the one thing that drove me crazy when she was with him. I do think that her relationship with Roy was stuck mode in high school, even as they became adults. It took P&R to be with other people to have an adult relationship.

Author's Response: Thank you. Pam does stand up for herself against Roy in canon prior to S3. As I've mentioned to others, she had the fight with him during the Dundies and came back to sit with Jim. Still it is very refreshing to write her as more assertive earlier on. Glad you liked it and thanks for the review.

This chapter made me hungry.
Roy must have a screw loose.
For him to think that he and Pam are still
together, and that everything is fine between
them, and his bad temper, just shows
us how dangerous he could become.
Please update this very soon!

Author's Response: Mission accomplished with the cooking part then. Glad you liked it. Yeah, Roy's not the best. Yes he's had a temper thus far. It's my view that Roy is basically an overgrown high schooler at this point in his life. He needs a chance to grow as well and he may have that chance now. Thanks for the review.

I can understand why you would want to justify Jim’s behavior during season 3.
Even though Jim got on my nerves, I still loved his character.
Plus we at least know why he was being such an ass when he confessed his feelings about Pam to Karen.

Author's Response: Thank you! I think it's important to acknowledge the weaknesses and failures of favorite characters... those flaws make them living people after all :)

I like how Pam compared getting married to Jim on a boat as opposed to Roy.
I think that deep down she used her family not being on the booze cruise as an excuse for having doubts about her relationship with him.
While she jumped in with both feet to be with Jim.

Author's Response: Thank you! And yes, I have the same thought about Pam's hesitance on that cruise...

I really like this insight into Jim’s head here.
However, my favorite part of the episode was when Andy screamed that fire was shooting at them! 😂

Author's Response:

Thank you!
My favorite part is either Oscar's escape or Kevin, looting food — haven't decided yet :)

Reviewer: New Hogfan Signed
Date: February 22, 2021 Title: Chapter 50: Fire XVI

Well no of course P&J aren’t perfect.
There were times when they drove me nuts.
In season 3 Jim had no problem pulling pranks
when he first came back to Scranton, because he
did so on his first day back. Not doing the pranks with Pam was what was hurtful to her. Then when he pulled the prank with Andy’s phone he only asked Pam for help after he asked other people,
which also hurt her feelings. She agreed to it because she thought it would be like before,
and it was.
That’s what made her happy
The prank brought up Jim’s feelings to the surface to the point where Karen even noticed and asked him for the truth about Pam.
The prank where Andy asked Pam out is
what I thought was petty of Jim. Jim may have been hesitant when he came back, but he also didn’t really give Pam a chance to tell him about her feelings for him. When Jim came back to Scranton Pam asked him to go have coffee with her, but he said no. Jim went out of his way to be cold to her, like when he skipped her art show, knowing it was important to her.
There is a difference between being hesitant and being heartless.
It wasn’t until beach day that Pam pretty much had the chance to tell him about her feelings.
Also if Jim hadn’t used Karen in the first place
then making her uncomfortable wouldn’t have been an issue. Also Jim being with Karen is what pushed Pam back to Roy. Jim telling Pam about his feelings on Casino Night caused a domino effect that he never really took any responsibility for. It was pam that blamed and felt bad about it.

Author's Response:

I think the main problem with Pam and Jim in that season was that they didn't fully realize how much they'd affected each other. Pam didn't know the depth of Jim's feelings for her, and Jim, too wrapped in his own misery, had no idea what Pam had endured after his leaving. That was so important for them to speak to each other, but... oh well.

After reading some of the reviews about Jim
being awful to Pam in season 3 and being okay with it, I think that there may have been some misunderstandings of why some people were irritated with Jim that season.
It was one thing for Jim to keep his distance from Pam, but he went out of his way to treat her like trash, all the while playing the poor me card.
He spent the season making rude comments to her and, shoving his relationship with Karen in her face. Jim also completely ignored the fact that his problem with Pam was started by him in the first placebo casino night. To make it worse, Jim never really apologized to Pam for being an ass towards her. Instead he blamed his jerk behavior on going to Stamford.
As for Karen, it was for wrong for Jim to not be upfront with her about Pam. I don’t think anyone disagrees with that. However, she did take the risk of being hurt by him, and then she played the victim when she got dumped. Which is why some
have no sympathy for her.
Also like Jim, Karen shoved her relationship with Jim in Pam’s face, which made her just as awful as him. The one thing that Jim and Karen had in common was that they covered their insecurities with huge egos.
Jim did the same thing in season 9 when it came to his job in Philly.
Once again, thanks for letting me vent about Season 3 LOL

Author's Response:

You're welcome to vent anytime you need to :)
As I said before, the flaws made those characters feel so alive. One of the biggest human imperfections, I guess, is our desire to justify our deeds, so in every situation, the guilt one is someone else. Perhaps, Jim fell in this trap here... as well as Karen (though I think she was less guilty than him).
One point in your review confused me a little — about Jim's rude comments to Pam. To be honest, the only moment I can call like that was 'the heartbreak in the breakroom after Roy's attack. Did you mean this situation or something else?

Yes, I know that beauty is in the beholder,
but I never thought that Karen was all that great.
I thought (and still do) that she is rather bland looking, that crazy girl Cathy.
Nothing special going on there either.
To me Karen was just another excuse(like Roy)
by the writers of the show to keep JAM apart.
Also Jim himself was a huge ass in season 3.
Karen didn’t have his heart because he didn’t have one.
Pam was actually better off without him.
Also Karen was a massive bitch in that episode, by pushing her relationship with Jim in Pam’s face
at VS, but I guess she had to everything she could to keep him since she’s doesn’t Pam’s body.
This was well a written chapter. And thanks for letting me vent about my dislike for Season 3.
😂

Author's Response:

Thank you for such a review! I don't hate Karen, but I agree that she was used as a plot device to keep Jam apart (and I'm quite mad about that because she could have been so much more than a wrong girlfriend). And, while I like Jim in general, your line 'Karen didn’t have his heart because he didn’t have one,' is great! More than once, during watching season 3, I wanted to smack him badly...
Thanks again, I don't mind listening to the vent about that season :)

That was tense!
Season 3 was uncomfortable enough as it was without Pam having Roy’s devil spawn.

Author's Response:

Yeah, Pam having Roy's child (especially in season 3) is something I'm not ready to think about. But in this story, I thought not about season 3, but earlier times — like soon after their engagement or during season 1... I should've written my notes better :(
Thank you for reviewing!

This was bittersweet.
At first I was disappointed that Jim took
the job at corporate, but I think it was better for Pam because she actually put herself first by
going for the what she wanted, instead of putting
the guy first. Perhaps spending those few years apart were a blessing in disguise.

This story is an example of why Jim was
such an ass in season 3.
His constant hot and cold attitude towards Pam
was very juvenile, especially since he completely ignored the fact he started the problem with the the two of them in the first place.
It’s no wonder Pam had emotional whiplash.
It’s too bad she didn’t tell him to piss off. 😂

Author's Response: lol definitely didn’t intend to write him as an ass in this chapter. I think there was some hot and cold action on both their parts throughout the years and that Jim definitely has some emotional whiplash too. He didn’t make perfect choices in season 3 and I agree that he had some low points, but I also think he was really doing his best to protect himself. 🤷🏻r05;a92;a039;

Most of the time Kevin annoyed the hell out
of me, but this was really funny. 😂
I can definitely see him thinking about Pam
in a sexual way then forgetting his third observation of her.
Kevin kind of reminds me of Joey on Friends.
I have to agree with him that Jim made the right choice by dumping Karen for Pam.
Karen was overrated.
I also liked how in the the last chapter Roy finally figured out that he wasn’t very skilled at certain things. He was so arrogant that seeing him get knocked down a few pegs was enjoyable.

Author's Response:

Thanks so much! And yes haha, Kevin can be very annoying (he is a bit like Joey though!) And yeah poor Roy lol. Thanks very much for taking the time to review, I really appreciate it!

Reviewer: New Hogfan Signed 1
Date: February 14, 2021 Title: Chapter 7: Ryan

This maybe my favorite chapter(so far).
Ryan really hit the nail on the head when it comes to Karen and Jim. Karen wasn’t that hot.
I actually found her to be bland looking.
As for Pam, she was never really supposed
to be hot. She was the cute All-American girl next girl door type of character.
Also Ryan(and Kelley)was right about Karen and Jim having ZERO chemistry, which made season 3 even more unbearable to watch.
Jim did try too hard to make it seem as though his relationship with her was serious. Even Karen complained about how Jim avoided talking about his feelings with her. Karen was a wall for Jim to put between himself and Pam because he thought he couldn’t have her. When Pam confessed her feelings to Jim on beach day he pulled away from Karen even more, causing her to dig her nails even further into him by trying to get him to move to NY. I think deep down Karen knew her time was running out with Jim, but she didn’t want to face it.
I think that Karen only really wanted her IDEA of who Jim was.
She wanted the Jim who she first met in Stamford, not Scranton.
Scranton Jim was the REAL Jim.
I actually never noticed that Karen
would go to Jim’s desk, but he didn’t go her.
So good job pointing that out!
As for Ryan himself he is a narcissist.
The guy actually thinks he was loyal to
DM by going to jail for them when in reality he caused the problem.
Also he was full of himself by looking down on Pam for not having an MBA, when lots of people have those, but in typical narcissist fashion,
Ryan thinks that people should kiss his feet.
Looking forward to the next update.
Thanks for letting me vent my annoyance about season 3. 😂

Author's Response:

Haha, thanks so much! And yeah, I also found season 3 incredibly difficult to watch. I think the only thing that got me through it was coming to The Office late, so knowing that Pam and Jim did eventually end up together. But it was tough. I actually liked Karen as a character, but her relationship with Jim was painful watching.

I am also slightly fascinated by what's going on in Ryan's head, and how he manages to justify what he does. So this was fun to write. He is a classic narcissist, lol.

A very interesting Karen chapter.
Even though I’m far from being her biggest fan,
I can say that I liked how pragmatic, and sympathetic she was about the documentary and JAM. She was right that it was Pam that was seen as not having courage, when Jim had his moments as well.
Like when Jim took back the card from
the tea pot.
I can also see Karen’s point in that Jim was stringing her along in their relationship by not being completely honest with her about Casino
Night. Although Karen took the risk of being with him, knowing that he had feelings for Pam,
Karen stayed with him based on incomplete information.
Jim denied Karen the opportunity to cut their losses as she said. I also think that Karen should have probably listened to other people when they said that her relationship with Jim wasn’t right.
I do think that Karen was blind in thinking that Jim was lazy in their relationship, because I think it was his VERY subtle way of telling her that he just wasn’t into it like she was. Plus Karen didn’t really see it as a sign that Jim’s head and heart wasn’t
all there for her when he didn’t want her to move in to the apartment close to him.
And it was PAM that convinced him to give into it.
I think perhaps things would have been different if the documentary was shown season by season instead of all at one time at the end. That way she would have had a better idea of what she was getting into. Anyway I think this gives good closer to the Karen chapter of the JAM story.

BTW do you think that we can get a Roy chapter?
I know that this story is in the POV of the women Jim has known, but I think it would be interesting to see Roy’s thoughts about Jim/JAM.
Because the show only showed the JAM thoughts and feelings about each other, we didn’t get to see how Roy really felt about it, or how he was portrayed in the documentary. Plus we never got to see his feelings about Dwight pepper spraying him. 😂
Anyway just an idea. 🙂

Author's Response:

Thanks very much! I'm really glad to hear you liked this (and it wasn't too painful on the Karen front lol). And yeah, one of the things I did like about Karen was that she was quite pragmatic. And I said this in another review - but I think Karen got the worst end of Jim being a coward, i.e. most of his cowardly moments (e.g. letting her think their relationship had a  chance after beach games) had a worse impact on her than any of Pam's did. So I think that would have stuck out more for her. But I think you're right that she didn't necessarily pick up on some of the signs there with Jim too.

So I'm probably not going to do a Roy chapter as part of this fic, but I agree it would be interesting to see his thoughts on the documentary! I wrote a bit about his views on Jim in his chapter on the 3 things about Pam in my other fic - but yes lol, I do wonder how he'd feel about his portrayal in the documentary. Particularly as the documentary didn't show any of his happier moments with Pam, and I'm sure he must have had at least some...

This chapter was really funny! 😂
Jan was nuts. Leave it to Michael to lie so the other person was in the wrong. Jan and Michael were a match made in Hell.
In my last review about Jim being rude to Pam,
it was mostly about the around situation with Roy.
I can understand that Jim would be upset, but he put the all the blame on Pam without owning up to the fact that he started the problem with her in the first place on Casino Night. Also he pulled that prank on her with Andy to be petty, and shoved his relationship with Karen in Pam’s face.
Jim was very passive aggressive in season 3.
Also I sent you a message yesterday about when Jim bought Pam’s engagement ring. Did you by chance get it?

Author's Response: Thanks so much! It was fun writing this one, and yes haha agreed on Michael and Jan. And yeah - Jim was pretty passive agressive in season 3, his behaviour wasn’t great. I have also now seen your message (really sorry I missed it!), and hopefully sent a reply :) Thanks again!

I agreed with Pam, that it was tacky when Phyllis copied Pam’s wedding. Then again I always thought Phyllis was a bitch towards Pam anyway.
Phyllis had the tendency to seem a bit insecure around the other women in the office, which she showed in her nasty comments about them.
The only time I love it was when she called Angela out in front of the office about being with Dwight.

Author's Response: Thanks! And yes haha, I do think Phyllis wasn’t always great with Pam, but I agree some of that may have been insecurity. Also, I think some people in the office treated her so badly that I always quite enjoyed when she stood up for herself, lol. But I always loved her friendship with Jim. Agreed on her calling out Angela being a great moment!

Nice start to a new story.
I’m with Dernhelm about JAM being in bed with other people, and I’m not looking forward to the Karen chapter.
However, unlike Karen, I actually feel kind of bad for Katy because they did make her seem stupid
and shallow.
Katy was right in that Jim held her, and Karen,
at an arm’s length because she wasn’t the girl he wanted. Also, even though, Jim was my second favorite on the show, he was bit of a dork.
I’m glad that Katy found her own happiness.
I know that this story is what the women in the office think of Jim, but I think it would be interesting to see a Roy chapter, because we never really got to see Jim and Pam from Roy’s POV.

Author's Response:

Thanks so much! And yes haha, I said this to Dernhelm but I will say that I think sex might've been a bigger part of Jim/Katy's relationship as I'm not sure they would've had loads to talk about...I'll try not to make the Karen chapter too bad though lol. I also felt really bad for Katy! And yeah, I love Jim's dorkiness. Thanks so much for reviewing, I really appreciate it :)

Karen was with Stamford Jim.
That Jim was cold, heartless and pretentious.
Scranton Jim was the guy that Pam loved,
and who was friends with those in the office.
So I believe that when Pam thinks that Jim is back, and Michael said the same thing,
it’s Scranton Jim they are referring to.

I have to admit that I’m with Karen here because he did continue to use her and shove their relationship into Pam’s face even after beach day. Jim did them both wrong, which is why I was not a fan of him in season 3.

Thank you for your review. I felt that too regarding Karen’s part. Jim did tag her along and he did break heart(s). Season 3 was not his brightest time for sure.

I like how the attraction Pam has towards Jim is already mutual. 🥰
There doesn’t seem to be any passion or heat between Jim and Karen in this story, much like in canon.
I’m curious if Karen will have a problem with JAM being friends, or if she won’t see Pam as a threat to her relationship with Jim.🤔
My guess is that they are the Pam and Roy of this story.
Please update soon.

Author's Response:

Yeah, I definitely wanted the attraction to mutual, but Jim's attraction to Pam was kind of accidental.

You will find out Karen's opinion to Jim and Pam's friendship as chapters go along so look forward to that.

I think what I want for Karen and Jim's relationship in this is that it is better than Pam and Roy's was, but it is still very stagnant. So yeah, they kind of are the Pam and Roy in this story.

Thank you for reading, and I will try my best to update soon!
