Hey Safe & Sound lovers, just for fun I made a playlist, please enjoy and look for the update soon! Spotify | Youtube

Just an Office lover writing fanfics under a penname that's a Park & Rec reference.

"You've been around forever!"

Kinda, I was absolutely obsessed with the show during the Season 3 of Angst (aka when it was looking like they'd drag out the will-they-won't-they indefinitely and only fanfic could fill the void!) and joined up, submitting my decent fanfics and being incredibly intimidated by the fantastic writers this fandom attracted.

After S4 I pretty much fell off the fanfic and fandom map, but Netflix helped me rekindle my JAM feeling something fierce a few summers ago and I thought hey better check on MTT. And here we are!

"Are you ever going to finish Anywhere But Here?"
I am! I have it plotted out and I'm chipping away at it, along with my other WIPs, and once I finish them up I will NOT have like 5 WIPs at once again >.<

I also have most of my office stuff archived at FFN and AO3

Please don't hesitate to review no matter the age of my fics!

Thanks for joining us here at MTT and adding new fanfic! This is a very good start and you write Jim's inner voice well!

My one suggestion so far is be mindful of tense, there's a tense shift a couple paragraphs in that's a bit distracting.

Definitely picking some good JAM songs so far with Iris and Boston. ;-)

I think you have a good start so far! I like the idea of putting Pam at an art supply shop, and that even though she's closer to her field of interest, it's still retail and she still wants so much more. And Angela would totally get water at a bar then interrupt Jim and Pam. XD

I do have a few suggestions on the writing side of things, just some things I appreciated learning when I was a younger writer (way back in the day now ;-) ) but I'll refrain from posting here unless you don't mind, otherwise I'm happy to send them to you in a message ;-)

Author's Response: Thank you so much for reading. I would love some suggestions, as the only real writing experience I have is essays for school, I don't mind you posting them here, or you can message me, on tumblr or otherwise (if you have another way) my url is dmthisis-pam. Again Thank you you so much for reading and the feedback<3

I'm so glad you found us and posted this great story! I think you had just the right amount of story/plot, loved the dynamic you set up between Jim and his friends (something sorely lacking from the show). And then the sexy parts were 🔥🔥🔥, dang! I think you wrote Pam well, giving her some new found confidence (and having Jim help draw that confidence out of her as he always did) but also having her deal with that ever-present streak of self-doubt and shyness that she has.

Hope to read more from you soon!

Drunk Jim is pretty much my fav so I love Jim's voicemail in this chapter, I could picture him saying every line. I also think you did a good job capturing the Roy/Pam dynamic, he was very rarely considerate of her but at the same time she very rarely stood up to him. Even without Jim's interference the resentment was building...

Author's Response:

Thanks NLM! We really needed more Drunk Jim, didn't we? Hope to hear from you again!

Yes, love this idea! Reminds me a little of my Expressions in Emoticons fic. So much I like about this first convo, there is already a small part of Pam that knows she's outgrown Roy, and longs for a life outside of him, but he's just a fixture in her life she can't really imagine him not in it. Still, she's rebelling in extremely subtle ways by suggesting they go to another bar, etc.

So next will be Diversity Day from Jim's perspective? Can't wait!

Author's Response:

Hey NoblelandMermaid!

I just wanted to start off by saying how excited I was to see that you reviewed my story -- you're one of my favourite writers on MTT!  As for the story itself, I found it difficult to delve into Pam's mind early on in the series, she is so adamant in her faithfulness to Roy yet the flickers of hope she often shows with Jim make me wonder what was really going on in her mind! I'm glad you thought I struck a good balance in terms of that. I hope you continue to enjoy this fiction as much as I enjoy writing it.

Kind regards,

msteapot

I'm actually surprised to read in your notes this was your first time writing from Jim's POV because you nailed it! This all could have absolutely been said on the show. I think you really captured their work relationship and how they got each other through the day with humor and even a bit of fun.

These continue to be great! Reading your replies to other reviews, I think you're doing a great job of showing the friendship side of things (as oppose to just the secret feelings/longing side of things). Above all they're just really good friends. But of course those feelings tend to pop up in moments like Pam thinking about Jim's hands 😉.

Author's Response:

Hi NLM!

I honestly think, aside from the longing looks and kisses (that I die for!!), Jim & Pam are so in tune because of their friendship. They respect each other, are able to laugh with each other, and just love each other's heart.  I think that's what actually makes them so special and I'm glad I have been able to emphasize that in my fics.

If Pam did remember the kiss I'm sure her thought process went like this: doing her best to convince herself it was almost incidental, and it was just friendly (while knowing deep down it was much more!). Looking forward to the next chapter and how you'll tackle the "which one is Jim" scene, (hopefully) as it's one of my favorite JAM moments.

Author's Response: Hey NLM! I'm procrastinating on the next chapter specifically because of that moment!  It's one of my favourites too, I want to do it justice

Yay, welcome back! Definitely happy to see this one continued. You most certainly still have and I want more, very soon!

This very much fits the dynamic of the episode, Jim's relationship with Katy was a very half-hearted attempt to get past Pam and I see all this going through Jim's head, how the day only confirmed that he had nothing in common with Katy and much in common with Pam. I like you having Jim wonder if maybe Pam already has a "movie tradition" with Roy, with the way the show was set up I think we all often forget that Pam did have a life outside of Jim and Dunder Mifflin, and probably had lots of little couple traits and quirks with Roy.

I do have to ask: what do you think Pam's all time favorite movie was?

Summary: After leaving the office, Jim cycled through each of Pam's seven messages again. And again. He lost track of how many times. Post episode for "The Carpet" (S2E14).

I already sang this fics praises at AO3 but I'll repeat them here, this is really good. It's like you took the looks Jim had on his face at the end of this episode and extrapolated them into a fic, the joy he felt that Pam left those messages and that she's missed him as much as he missed her, but also the inherent sadness and loniness that at the end of the day he was still going home alone. "Real and Imagined" is just such a perfect summation of this time in the JAM story. I'm thrilled you came here to MTT and that you have lots of JAM plots ideas, can't wait to read more!

Author's Response:

You are too sweet! *hugs* Thank you so much!

A lot of my fic tends to be episode related and canon compliant--gap fillers, post-episodes, etc.--so I try very hard to make that connection between canon and fic. Reading that you felt that canon moments were extended well into this fic is some high praise indeed, and very rewarding. What you describe is definitely a big part of what I was trying to convey. Thanks again! :D

So I'll be totally honest and admit that I don't really gravitate towards Dwangela fanfics BUT I am glad I read this because you did a fantastic job. Dwight is definitely one of the more difficult characters to write but you really captured his voice and thoughts. And your writing of how Angela sees and feels about Dwight, it's like I finally actually understand the attraction there. And you kept them in character during the smutty parts, another thing that's not easy to do! I hope you have more stories planned because I definitely would like to read more from you!

Author's Response:

Thank you so much! You have no idea how much this means to me! This is seriously one of the nicest thing anyone has ever said about my writing! This was actually my first time writing Office fanfic (making this my first review!!), and I was worried I didn't accurately portray the characters, so this gave me some reassurance that I did okay! I'm thrilled that you enjoyed it, and I'm definitely planning on writing more very soon!

Really like this, it always disappointed me a bit that the writers had to attempt humor and add that "so you're PMSing, huh?" line at the end of that Back From Vacation scene, it nearly spoiled a great Dwight/Pam scene, but now I'm grateful it inspired this fic! Dwight is NOT an easy character to write but you captured him perfectly. Setting up the detailed plan to warn Pam people were returning then having him fail to follow through because he "was already on his way up" is SO Dwight.

I know you are finished with this story but I'm definitely left wanting a follow-up chapter, perhaps something from Jim's POV or having Pam find the journal again sometime later. But it's probably great the way it is ;-)

Author's Response:

Yes, exactly! Thank you! I was so disappointed with Dwight's line there. I am very fond of Dwight's soft spot for Pam, so I needed to remedy that scene, plus take the opportunity to delve into some S3 Pam-feels. :) And I'm thrilled with the feedback I'm getting on Dwight's characterization. He just started talking to me, and I had to run with it.

And, you know what? Your nudge to write more worked. It was actually helpful that you offered some possible directions for the story to go, because it almost instantly inspired me. I've already drafted out a rough outline for two more parts, so look out for those. Thanks for the thorough feedback! Love it.

RE your notes: I understand the concern you may incidentally repeat someone, especially since there are any number of fics from this time on the show, but please don't hesitate to ever write anything since your writing makes these much-written about moments feel fresh again! I'm very interested in your what-if scenarios, just small little changes would have make this episode go so differently. I like the trajectory of this one, how Jim's frustration comes to a head, it definitely makes sense for the time (I always kind of wish we had seen how these two did address casino night), Very bold of Pam to say "I love you", more bold than I feel she was at the time, but it makes sense in this story especially since Jim draws it out of her. Definitely does make for an awkward meeting with Karen but better to just deal with it rather than put it off!

Author's Response: Hey, thanks!  I appreciate the reassurance.  Yeah, I can see it being a bit OOC for Pam.  I was trying to express that she had reached a point where continuing to be deceptive would have been more difficult for her than just confessing, but I probably could have had Jim probe harder (that's what she said).  Oh, well, that's the fun thing with "what-if" scenarios, it's fun to experiment.  Thanks for the review :)

I enjoyed this very much, it definitely fits wth their interactions on the show at this time. Jim using humor at the start before getting more personal, Pam feeling the need to defend herself and her choices to him but more so to herself. One trend we often saw was Jim always pushing that friend boundary in the most subtle way, but retreating immediately when Pam pushed back. The last part captures that, just as it's getting a little to personal and intimate for Pam, Jim walks away, leaving her with something to ponder. I think you may have intended this to be a canon-compliant extra scene, but I can also imagine this being the first chapter in a slighly AU fic with Pam realizing she's not happy where she is and needs to take a chance on something sometime sooner.

I wish you a full and speedy recovery with your surgery!

Author's Response:

Thanks! I generally intend to be canon compliant (it's a rare fic of mine that can't be interpreted that way), but I like that you've shown that readers can take it in another direction! I love when that happens. :) Thanks, as always, for leaving such a thorough and thoughtful comment and supporting the authors here, including myself. :)

(Recovery is going well. All in all, it will take a minimum of four months, but everything is looking good so far, which is a relief.)

You're hitting all my favorite kinds of JAM fics now! First the "working in the past leading to sexy times" in the last chapter and now "Pam taking care of Sick Jim", yes!

I think you're doing such a great job of having Jim come across things that remind him of the past in a very realistic and believable way, and also going beyond the usual things like the teapot or grilled cheese and going deeper with references like Jim loving crab.

Can't wait for the next installment!

Author's Response: Aw, thanks! I really appreciate that! Thank you for taking the time to comment (you must be an all star reviewer for all the writers here, which is just amazing). So sorry I've been MIA (again!). Life keeps happening. New job (same organization), which has been...an adjustment, let's say.
