Oh my gosh I just found this and it is sooooo great!! I love this playful Jam and inquisitive Jam and learning about each other Jam. I love your explanation of Pam as trying to be “not selfish” in her relationship with Roy ultimately leading to losing who she was… just a delicious little peek at our fave couple and some of the amazing backstory…fantastic work!!

How did I just stumble upon this??? I’m hooked! What an incredible first chapter, building to that electric moment where Jim and Pam meet— and now he can’t stop thinking of her. Your loathsome portrayal of Roy is also commendable… The Office Roy in the post Civil War south. She is betrothed turning into I have a fianc? was so good.. clearly Jim has it bad! Can’t wait to see where this goes— how do you write this chemistry between them? It’s fantastic!!!

Reviewer: WithaY Signed 1
Date: March 07, 2023 Title: Chapter 2: Like a Songbird That Has Fallen

Wow. What a striking difference in actions between Roy and Jim in helping Pam’s family through the fire… “I came as soon as I heard”… well Roy, Jim’s been there all night and actually saved them from the fire, so…. And still, the electricity between Jam is undeniable. What an ass Roy becomes in that situation… but clearly, he too is seeing the threat of Jim, the undeniable magnetism that is Jam.
And the ending? The cliffhanger? Oh. My. God. I am in love with this AU… and so excited that Jim and Pam seem to just instinctually follow their hearts… no matter how crazy, inappropriate, or against society as it seems… you set up a clearly miserable situation for Pam having nothing as a wife… I love that Jim feels for her and is desperate to change her standing… amazing!!!!!

Reviewer: WithaY Signed 1
Date: March 07, 2023 Title: Chapter 3: Any Other Name

Okay, the opening paragraph??? Perfection!! And then he reaches for her hands???!!! Oh yeah… Pam can’t deny the electricity now… and clearly it makes Jim bold enough, strong enough, to tell her the truth.. that there’s just something there between them that they can’t deny. The sexual tension that you write is just beyond.. but then there’s also this incredible connection of their hearts and souls too. I love that Pam isn’t afraid to ask the hard questions about Katy— and Jim isn’t afraid to answer them either. Yes. Yes? Yes. And Okay? Okay. Okay. was just INSPIRED… and while I knows there’s gonna be a whole story’s worth of backlash for this marriage it’s gonna be sooo good! I love Jam just living for their hearts despite all the stuff in their brains saying ‘but what about this?’

Also perfection? If he were lucky.. about Katy, his dad, and his mom’s responses— but he tended not to be. I’m so glad they have a few people on their side— because this is going to be no easy ride— though together, they can weather anything— even a drunken, scorned Roy in the middle of the night, right?? Right. RIGHT????!!!! Thank God I’m off tomorrow…. Can’t wait to read more!!!

Author's Response: Thank you so much for commenting! I always enjoy hearing other’s thoughts as read through the story. I’m thrilled you are enjoying it. Thanks again!

SO GOOD! I love how Roy has this confrontation with Jim and Mr. Vance (love the Bob reference!) but ultimately, it's Pam who tells him to leave. That's so satisfying.

I'm in love with the way you write such beautiful romantic scenes. You capture the chemistry so well. You can literally feel the chemistry, attraction, and desire between them with your words! Even though they aren't kissing (though they were immediately prior), James's actions like his thumb stroking Pam's cheek and his nose sliding along her cheek are such intimate moments that exhibit such love.

I will never tire either of James' innate sense of Pam's safety. He isn't overbearing or treating her like a damsel in distress, but just senses when he needs to be more protective of her, like when they go to the lodging place, or when the guy delivering the water stares too long at Pam. It's super sexy too! So good!

Author's Response: Thank you so much! You never know how ramntic scenes and loves scenes will be received. James has a very strong protective nature, which some of that is due to the time period and his upbringing, but I adore it nonetheless. Thanks!

"I do not think anyone deserves you but I will happily take the role since you are willing to give it to me." ***sigh*** Why is Jim Halpert SO good in this AU? And thank GOD for Rebecca interrupting Roy and Pam on the night of the fire! I can't imagine that was just fortuitous, either. Go Rebecca!

"He wanted to confess that the thought of spending even a day apart from her scared him to death and from the moment he laid eyes on her he wanted to know every secret she held." I mean... come on. Come on! This love scene is so beautiful, so intimate. Again, it's those details like Jim's nose tracing a pattern on her skin, his eyes roaming her body and pulling her hands away from her covering herself... it's not just sex, it's love. And then their pillow talk? Divine. Simply divine!

Author's Response: Thank you! James is hands down my most favorite iteration of Jim I have ever written. I adore him :)

What a sweet little morning after for James and Pam! I love the intimacy of him never waking up before with a woman in his bed--such a lovely little detail you add! Such fun chemistry and banter between the two!

Sweet callback to the conference room scene where Pam falls asleep on Jim's shoulder! Loved that detail too! And another sweet beginning to their second night together... so sexy and deliciously them. I love their conversations spent discovering each other. I can see that Pam is essential to making James feel good about himself... to reflect the goodness in him that he sees in her. I am constantly Googling history stuff as I read this story and I am learning so much! It's quite interesting when you realize how much uproar it will cause when Jim brings home a southern girl that he's married... can't wait to see how this all goes over! The last line was simply perfect-- home is where Pam is. Home for Pam is where James is. Can't wait to read more. This is just so well done!

Author's Response: Thank you! Yes, things get interesting in Philadelphia. I hope you enjoy it :)

Another glorious chapter. Your Victorian love scenes are so gorgeous and yet, as I was discussing with MrsK, bear no resemblance to lack of running warm water or showers… granted… Jim has servants to bring hot water, but still! They’re gorgeous and playful and just ooze sweetness and love and soulmates. I love how flirtatious they are and that they just can’t get enough of each other… so good!!

Ooh… what an icy reception from Betsy! I can tell I’ll love Eleanore, but Betsy is very cool. Pam seems very strong though, so it will be interesting to see how she comes to handle the criticism placed upon her character.

Gregoire is a fun character! I laughed out loud at his comment about the dress looking like a peacock mated with a chicken— so Michael Kors on Project Runway which was so hilarious!!! If you haven’t watched, must Google his top quotes!!

And again, their connection continues during dinner. I love this juxtaposition of who James was before he left for war, and how he has returned— and that Pam is the only one who knows this new version of him. I love this very Pretty Woman-esque love scene too with the piano… and oh, then ending?? The I love you? So good!! I’m just in awe!! Loving this story and all it brings… this is such a delightful James and Pam in this AU!! Thank you for sharing!!!

Oh.My. God. What a stunning story! I listened to Everything Has Changed a couple times after reading and read it again and this is just a stunning match to that gorgeous, gorgeous song. I’ve read it before but read it again in anticipation of traveling to London in a few weeks and I just love it soooooo much. This Jim and this Pam and the way she just hands him her coffee in the elevator and that they just happen to work in the same place and both come from Pennsylvania?!? The dialogue was funny and heartwarming and you just feel like you’re in a little pub staring at this incredibly star crossed couple falling in love and starting their story. I love how Jim just blew off that girl from the back of the cab too. I mean, like she was just nothing… and she is compared to Pam. Your use of canon dialogue is so beautiful too in the way Pam tells Jim about Roy and finally decides it’s truly over with Roy. And I love this idea that they’re just so destined to be with each other that they aren’t waiting agonizingly to make decisions… like they know this is it, and they’re just tying up loose ends— as Pam promptly calls Roy, says it’s over, and heads home with Jim. Just stunning! There are 1000 incredible lines but one of my favorites is the one where they’re at the parrot tree and Jim has a vision of Sunday mornings with the paper and groceries and children and phone bills. Come on! Loved this so much!

Author's Response:

Thank you so much! I’m thrilled you liked it.

Enjoy London! It’s one of my favorite cities. If you have never been, you will love it. Paris is my fave (which is where part two of this story goes) but London holds a special place for me as well.

I'm so glad this is back!! I love this divergent canon story and oh the feels when you used Pam's canon dialogue from casino night... ahhhhhh!! I don't know why Pam is so afraid that she isn't enough for Jim when he's clearly told her she is... but I also don't understand why Jim wasn't up front with her about the contract either. Hmmm sounds like canon issues, doesn't it?!

Jim is definitely father material here in this chapter, making sure Pam knows Lewis is safe and also, what a great job Pam has done in raising kids who are this empathetic! On the other hand, they've unfortunately been in situations that are making them act as tiny adults, which is also sad.

Can't wait to see what Pam has to say when Jim brings Lewis home! And I'm very glad Jim did not drive Lewis home under the influence. Just another great example on how Jim is all in for Pam--and her boys. Thanks for this great story!

Author's Response:

Thanks so much for reviewing!

I'm trying to navigate Jimm and Pam's canon issues, as you put it, with the fact that over 15 years have passed and they are both different people.

About the kids having to be like tiny adults... at some point I considered bringing Roy into the scene and show those dynamics, but it doesn't really add to this story. But yeah, as I see it, these kids have seen their mom go through a lot, and some of it has affected their behaviours.

Next chapter is on its way, hold on tight!

“Purpose… filled the hollow spaces in him.” Swoon! Such an incredible line to start with! And the morning after! There’s something about Pam in Jim’s button down sitting on his counter that always, always gets me. And Paris? I can just picture them there! I love Paris… the second time was when I fell in love though… first time needed the lay of the land, second time I definitely appreciated all of the details you write about. I’m sure that Jim’s return trip is better too, now that he’s with Pam too!

I too still have my tiny “La Tour Eiffel” from the street vendors along the Seine— and yes, I did haggle! The engagement scene was perfect, because you know exactly what both of them are thinking… especially loved her sudden need to kiss him.

I loved your use of the canon “you repay me just by being with me”. I think that’s canon, right?? And your love scenes are just gorgeous… not so detailed in the physical description but the sensual feeling makes them so intimate and sexy. Yes, a perfect end to a day in Paris!!

I don’t quite know what Danny’s up to, but I don’t like it. Especially after that deliciously flirty stairwell break… “why do I always feel like I’m being kidnapped??” I just love that Jim just NEEDS to kiss her. Still, I’m waiting for another shoe to drop…

I love your canon use of “I don’t even know who you are” and the crazy guy at the laundromat… I love reading all the different interpretations of that backstory, along with the familiarity and day to day I intimacy of your Jim and Pam doing her laundry one day.

Of course Karen would show. As much as I hate this, I do love that Pam agrees calmly to talk with Jim tomorrow, encouraging him to talk out his issues with Karen, even though her heart must be terribly frightened. Jim’s cool reception of her is quite satisfying though.

This has to be the most satisfying Jim Karen fan fic ending which happens in a matter of hours and I love that. It’s clear how everything changed the minute he met Pam, including living— and anything not that is just not acceptable. I love how Jim is protective of Pam’s yogurt too; a sweet callback in a dramatic tense scene. I’m not sure if this is a literary element but I love your little lists of what is running through Jim’s mind… that home is how Pam’s leg intertwines with his when they sleep, how she never orders fries and always eats his, laughing at his not funny jokes, losing her keys, her ponytail, and how she says his name. Again, it’s that daily intimacy of sharing a life. So good!

Again, what a fantastic nod to how destined they are— that she knew he was at her door, and that she was going to call him back that night. I love that there isn’t a thought in either of their minds that this— they— are it for each other. His canon words were so right in this scene, and Pam’s reaction is what we all wanted from Casino Night. So amazing. This was excellent! I’d love a whole fic of this, truly! I mean, we need to figure out this Danny stuff, right? You’re so talented and this is such a gem! And I’d love that see where else in Europe Jam travels! Makes me so excited to get abroad again!

Author's Response: Wow thank you SO much for the lengthy and well thought out review! I really do adore hearing what people loved most.

I enjoyed hearing about your time in Paris too. Right now I live about two hours away from Paris by ICE train and I pop over there all the time. It is such a magical city.

You never know when we might see London/Paris Jim again. Perhaps in a future collab. I think Amsterdam with some space cakes would make a fun next trip. ;)

Thanks again for the fantastic review!

This was a great take on S9 angst which still fills me with dread when I can sometimes stomach them on Comedy Central reruns. I love the reference to Dwight fixing the kitchen… but not being able to fix this mildew— that could turn to mold. My stomach dropped though when I read that Jim was going to surprise Pam with the dress from 5 years ago. Ugh. Great intent, but has so much potential for going wrong. Her stream of consciousness about the outfit was great… and of course Jim fit into and spiffied up HIS first date shirt… oh my heart aches a little for Pam. I loved the shadow stuff with the menu and bread basket… their problems were definitely much bigger and darker unspoken… and that reinforced that concept. Great call to the fact that as part of Dunder Mifflin, Jim’s business was also Pam’s business— but that Athlead was not.. and whether it was Jim not trying to bother her with “unnecessary stress” (maybe his thinking) or just that Pam didn’t know the specifics, I can see how that really stung not being a part of those moments.. which could potentially lead to bigger implications. And her reaction?? Oooh!! I think that you taught us all a little bit about assuming what someone else is doing… in this case Jim being on the phone for not Athleap but for Isabel and the kids— not that he’s out of the doghouse, but that without them speaking, they’re never going to get on the same page.

Mostly I love that this ended with hopefulness… because that season 9 shit was INTENSE!  I love that Jim still (literally) reaches out— and Pam still accepts.  As long as that’s happening, It’s gonna eventually be okay.  Thanks for this hopeful take on the S9 shit— it was well handled and I loved it!

Author's Response:

Wow, what a review, thanks so much for taking the time to leave it. Yes, Season 9 is rough, mostly because they forgot how to communicate and I wanted to bring that out in this chapter but without forgetting that no matter what they still love each other (and the family they made). Jim's gestures can only go so far -and can even backfire as we see happen.

Yeah, I didn't want to end it with anger and angst, even though according to canon we know what's about to happen in a week or two, but their love eventually pulls them out of that dark place and I wanted this chapter to hint at that too.

Thanks again for reviewing.

I’m SO excited to see that this is back!! It was worth the wait!! I am going to reread some of the earlier chapters and remind myself of the fabulousness this is! I love Holly following the trail of Michael like in canon. I love the inner dialogue of Jim and Pam going over their current state of emotions. I hate that they are struggling but can’t wait until work this out. I also love Angela being the one who follows after Kelly! I love the girl group interactions and the guy group interactions. Why do I not trust Ryan, or think something else is going on with him? Love Oscar’s common sense too.. “One if you’re walking, two by boat, and three is you’re Michael in a boat..”🤣🤣🤣 Can’t wait to see what happens next! Please update soon!!!

Author's Response:

Aw, thank you so much! I’m so thrilled to hear that. I possibly had to reread several of my own chapters to try to remind myself of where everyone had got to…I’m really glad you’re enjoying all the girl/guy group interactions too, they’re a lot of fun to write! And lol yes, Oscar sense. Thank you so much for reading and for taking the time to review - I really appreciate it!

What a great chapter! I love how everyone is starting to fall back into their rightful places… maybe Michael isn’t so crazy after all… his road to get their is nuts, but eventually, he gets them there! While I’m truly glad at the Jam reconnection, I was most struck by how happy I was to see Mark and Isabel reconnect, as they seemed the MOST destined for divorce in this story. I’m excited to see our couples reconnect, continue their conversations, and enjoy some paradise with each other. And the surprise Oscar Toby pairing is just delightful! You are making Toby a likable character for me! I loved the Jam dialogue as they tested the waters at the bar… so flirty.. so funny… so sweet! Thanks for continuing this great AU! Loving the trajectory of where this is headed—thanks for sharing your excellent work!

Author's Response: Thanks so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed it - and haha yes, there is (almost) method to Michael's madness? I'm not sure it's entirely intentional. But anyway. Ah and that's great to hear on Mark and Isabel - and on Toby! I do have a soft spot for him lol, despite his moments of being very annoying with Pam. Thank you very much for reading, and for taking the time to review - I really appreciate it :)

This was sooooo good! I loved your interweaving of canon in this AU and especially loved how sweet your interaction was with Jam! I anticipate the next chapter being lovely— how wonderful it was for Pam to see someone like Jim who truly believes in her and supports her! Great work!

Pleeeeease tell me you’re still writing this!!! The sexual tension is soooo palpable— and what’s the deal with Sarah Kaya? I don’t love her meddling. But clearly Jim and Pam are still attracted to each other, and now that it’s out that Pam wanted him to know she called off the wedding and that Jim didn’t block her number, what will happen now that they’ve had some alcohol and are lusting after each other? I can also never, ever fall for a beardy Jim Halpert… can’t wait to see this one continue! And I adore the sassy commentary of Pam’s friends! Great AU!

Keep calm... this amazing story is updated!!! To answer your question, you COULD not post for another year and a half because now Jim and Pam have kissed and acknowledged the crazy sexual tension between them and are now spending the night together so they could very well live happier ever after... but I do hope you post again because this was SO WORTH THE WAIT!

I'm just so blown away by how you can write this palpable sexual between Jim and Pam... how it builds and then gets interrupted... Thank God for Penny! She's definitely pushing for Pam to reconnect with Jim and I love it. I love that Pam is loving this roller coaster of emotions too!

Rolando in this story is just perfection. I love his song choice, and his clear message to Pam. But what is SK's deal? It seems more to me than a concerned friend. It also seems that as much as Pam kinda seems convinced that she's just gonna make this about a few orgasms, that's just probably not going to happen...

I loved your flirty texting with Jim and Pam making eye contact in the same room--so believable and also a little bit less intense way to broach some tough topics, like what was going on while Jim was in the bathroom. And it also allows them both to be a little bit flirtatious too...

Great callback to 27 seconds in 27 Dresses and yes, that was such a great scene where they sang Benny and the Jets at the bar in the rain! But the parking lot was fantastic. Jim being super sweet and holding his hand out to Pam, both of them feeling each other out about where the other thinks this night is inevitably going, and when it's so sweetly confirmed--that KISS! Well, Jim, you have no idea how long we've been waiting for that to happen too! Ugh, this is excellent. Please continue! It's sweet and sexy and funny and just so well written!
