And he tries to laugh, but the word “artist” hurts a bit and the briefcase is getting increasingly heavier.

AND

“Well, I’m ready when you are,” he said, slinging the brown bag over his shoulder, the strap getting tangled around his arm since he’s seemed to have lost all coordination since she said yes.

Fabulous lines, Miss Wendy/Sway! I love the perspective you've taken here, and even the little details about Jim's day-to-day seem right on the mark. This was such a sweet story, and you really excelled in matching the tone of the finale. Fine Work Award to you, Sway!!!

CH

Author's Response: Fine Work Award? It's not a blue ribbon (only the cool people get those) but I'll take it! Seriously, it means so much to have a review like that from you since I'm such a geektastic fan of your work. I'm so glad that you liked this story and thank you again for reading, darlin!

Perfectly charming. I can see this as a cold open to the season 4 premiere; if I'm right, and you've predicted the future, we can look forward to a wonderful season. Great job with the dialogue and details; tihs is simply lovely. -CH

Author's Response: Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed (I've only correctly predicted the future once in fic, and that was Pam leaving Phyllis's wedding with Roy, so...let's hope for better in season 4!).

I really liked this! Andy's role in the charade was a perfect surprise, and I was thoroughly entertained by your imagery and the way you used the language to convey the story. My favorite lines, however, are these...

"She put that stupid little bear on her desk because it made her happy. Now the little bastard was staring at Jim, trying to ruin his sweet afterglow."
AND

"Dunder Mifflin could go fuck itself."

This was a refreshing take on the now very popular post-"The Job" storyline. Well done!

Author's Response: Thanks a lot for the review.  I'm so glad you keyed in on Karen's bear -- I like to get hung up on inane little details that illustrate bigger things.

Summary:

This oneshot is based on a prompt at TWoP to write a fic based on a screen shot from Gay Witch Hunt showing that Jim has a note stuck to his monitor reading, "Smile!" This is what I imagine he was thinking when he looked at it. Oh, so, spoilers for Gay Witch Hunt, sort of.

Oh, invis, that was simply breathtaking. I never noticed that post-it in all my viewings of "Gay Witch Hunt" (one of my favorite eps of the season), but it really does say a lot about Jim's character at this point in the series. You did a beautiful job capturing his efforts toward growth but the simultaneous limits placed upon it. I simply love how you ended the story because, for me at least, it was a bit ambiguous. Is he throwing it away because he's smiling that she's not married or throwing it away because he can't smile over everything he's lost? Don't answer this question; it's just a perfect ending.

I especially liked this line: The person who’d notice his missing smile and try to bring it back is…not here. He looks at the note. He keeps practicing.

Excellent work, here. A thumbs up, ten points, and a gold star for your efforts!

Author's Response: SQUEE!  Thank you so much for the review, Becky!  And I'm glad you liked the semi-ambiguous ending.  I kind of like endings like that, but I never know if other people will.  Don't worry, I won't answer your question.  :)

Okay, so, yeah. I thought the highlight of today would be the arrival of my "Moonlighting" dvds on Netflix. Then I hop onto MTT for a routine story check and see this story from out of the blue (the Wendy Blue!). THEN I discover that it's easily my favorite chapter of the series thus far (even though I say that with every installment). This one takes the cake with it's rockin' "Gone with the Wind" references (you must have known that would win my heart!), the seamless dialogue, and your best integration of the cliches yet. All the previous chapters have been fabulous in their subtleties, but this one was simply genius. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful, my dear! Your writer's block is most definitely a thing of the past!

Lovely, lovely, lovely, as always. I love how you make us think you're talking about a ring in the beginning (you tease, you), and your description of little Miss Halpert is simply precious.  You've wowed me again with your spot-on Jim/Pam banter, and the humor in this was the perfect mix of fluff and romance. Another wonderful job; I've said it once and I'll say it again: you continue to top yourself with each passing chapter, so this story might have to go on forever so we can enjoy your creativity and the intricacies.

Go start chapter 6.  --GMMBBG

Author's Response: Always so quick to review, CH, I love it!  Like I said, this story wouldn't even exist without your help, so thank you sooo much for all your help.  And I'm so glad you liked the chapter!  See you around our four mediums of communication ;)

A Dundie to you, Sway, for a wonderful start to what promises to be a fabulous story. I know it might sound cliche, but is there more where that came from?  --CH

My regret of the day is that it's taken me so long to discover this story! I'm enjoying it so much. You're really tackled the AU frontier with style and creativity, and I'm loving every bit of this. You also write Roy really well, which I always appreciate in a story; so many folks are tempted to make him a 2-dimensional jerk, but you've given him the kind of depth that helps us understand why they were together in the first place.
