I'll see if I can get it for you, Spencer.  If I'm successful, do you want it on youtube or just a link to download the video file?

This is very last minute, but if anyone could help me out I'd love them forever!

Two of my best friends were rushed to NYC for makeovers on the Rachael Ray show about 6 weeks ago. It was some kind of 2-for-1 episode, and they're twins, and it was all very exciting. Except they never managed to air the episode!

Well, they got word yesterday that the episode is airing today. Woo! I would love a digital copy, but have no idea how to go about doing so right off of the TV. It's airing on Citytv and NBC here, but neither seem to put the episodes on their websites after.

So, I was curious, if some insanely kind and wonderful person would be able to somehow get the episode for me? I can't tell you how much I would appreciate it! Where I'm living now doesn't have a DVR/PVR/VCR so I have no way of actually getting any kind of copy...

If anyone would be able to help me out, I would be so grateful!

Ok, brainiacs, I have an issue I need some help with -- I used to be in SW development, but that was 7 years ago and the new technology is whooshing past me in both lanes.  (Hey, I have a almost-smart phone -- that's progress).

Here's what I have -- a giant stack of printed address labels (3 across, 10 down) and I need to get it into electronic format -- a SS or DB of all this address info.  (The obvious answer is to get it in electronic format to start with, but that's not an option here).

I have a scanner with a doc feeder, and I know there are OCR programs out there that can read each address and translate into some sort of text format.  Can anyone help me find one?  Free is great, but I can pay a reasonable amount for a license if necessary.

I'd JFGI, but I'm going in for eye surgery tomorrow and I'm running out of time to get this done (or at least started) while I can still see my laptop screen.

Thanks for any advice y'all can offer.

Thanks for the advice!  The Apple Store is about an hour away, so I'm hoping I don't have to go there.  I was talking to a friend of mine who had the same thing happen and she told me how she got hers working.  Fingers crossed it works!

PS- I'm not above fake crying if you'll think it will help!  laughingicon

Do you have an Apple store nearby? If your 'cure' doesn't work go there with the phone and talk to one of the geniuses. Apple doesn't publicize it but their employees have the ability to go the extra mile with customer service. Tell them what happened (by the way, they can tell immediately if it's been submerged) and it wouldn't hurt to let them know you don't have a house line. I would be surprised if they didn't help you out, especially since there are new phones coming out in a week or two.

Also, can you tear up on command? Do you really need to have that top button buttoned up? JK - try it; they should help you out.

I am such an idiot.  I dropped my freaking iPhone into the toilet!  Fortunately it was clean water.  It was working, but I turned it off right away to prevent damage.  I searched the net for what to do.  These are the steps I've taken:

1- Turn off the phone.
2- Shake it out until no more water comes out.
3- Use canned air (which I didn't have so I used my blow dryer on a cool, low setting) to dry it out.
4- Submerge the phone in a bowl of rice, which will apparently absorb the remaining water.

Hopefully this works.  I so cannot afford a new phone right now!  Has this happened to anyone else?

The other downside is that my husband works nights and we don't have a house line.   ???

Disclaimer: techno clueless-ness ahead.

A couple of months ago I 'inherited' an (old-ish - 4 yrs?) MacBook Pro. I'm basically a PC girl, so have no frame of reference. It worked fine until a week or so ago...

Then that infuriating beach ball started popping up more frequently. This usually occurred when online, so I assumed it was our oft-wonky wireless connection. Nothing major, just annoying.

Then last night, I tried to watch a movie on Netflix. Shortly into it, it stopped and I got a message saying I didn't have enough memory to continue. Weird...never been a problem before and I checked in Utilities - and had like 2/3 of my memory available.

Then, the whole thing began freezing. Can't open the Finder. Sometimes can open Safari, sometimes not. The application folder is frozen open. Can't empty trash. Shutting down and re-booting helped at first, then I'd lose all  desktop icons (save for those on the dock at the bottom of the screen - though clicking them now does nothing) and I sometimes see a translucent Safari menu bar on top.

Not happy. Do not think I've done anything to cause this - recently trashed a few stupid widgets from the Dashboard, but that's nothing, right?

Question: does this sound software-ish (i.e., possibly fixable without too much fuss) or like a hardware meltdown (i.e., kerplunkt?) Don't expect any diagnosis based on the above, but would love to have some idea before visiting the Mac-doctor...

Any Mac types out there have a clue?  ???

Sorry for double posting, but I have a whole new question. We just got a TiVo Premier and can access my YouTube account through it (cool beans!). I can see my favorites list, but the TiVo says I don't have any playlists or subscriptions, which I do. I went to TiVo for help, and they told me that if any of the videos are marked restricted or private they won't show up. I don't think that's the case with any of them, though. The vast majority are Jam mash-ups, and some other random stuff. Anyone else have any experience with this?

Question smileyDwight: I am still fairly new to the world of downloading MP3 albums, and I just downloaded an album with digital booklet. I cannot find the booklet file anywhere on my computer. I'm using a Mac and iTunes (though the download came from Amazon). Anyone know where I would find the booklet file on my computer? I've looked in my music folder, in the folder for the album, tried unsuccessfully to find a downloads folder on my HD. I am at a loss. ???

ETA: OK, after searching my HD in vain, I finally came to the conclusion that the file never downloaded. Amazon allowed me to do it again, so problem solved. Glad I'm not as dense as I was feeling last night. :)

Hey. There are programes you can download to get stuff off of broken SD cards, so I'm sure there is something you can do. Maybe google the name of it?

Two things:

1) I noticed on my Firefox on my Mac that I get an invisible window that show up. I can't close it. I tried Googling about it but it said that the bug was fixed years ago... but why do I see have it? Heh.

2) My external hard drive isn't loading when I connect it to my computer. It might have been dropped. Is there a way that Best Buy or some other computer store can fix it or at least retrieve the stuff off of it? So much stuff on it and it's my back-up of my Mac so I don't even have it on there anymore.  :'(

I have, about 6 months ago and in hindsight I'm glad. All those cable shows are pretty much just time wasting fluff that I dont miss now and the few that are deserving - like say Mad Men or Archer - I can find on itunes or hulu or if I'm willing to wait, netflix so it's not that big a deal.

A big upside is that the quality of the over the air HD tv is, for me at least, much better than what I was getting from comcast HD. So while I have fewer shows, they give a more enjoyable viewing experience. I saw an actress making fun of her dad on a late night talk show the other night in that she'd bought him a nice flat screen tv and he used rabbit ears with it. But that honestly for some people (perhaps most) gives a better picture and shows like Bourdain's No Reservations or Colbert are nice but not worth 80 bucks a month. And even in the case of those two example shows, you can watch one on netflix instant and one on hulu if you really want to.

Downstairs will be ok, but I like to wind down at night by watching 30 minutes of TV in bed, but we won't have that option without cable.

Why not? Hook up a 30 dollar antenna and put on one of the late night talk shows and you've got 30 minutes of tv. It's not clear from your post if you have an hdtv but since that is what is mainly sold these days (I rarely see a non-hdtv for sale at major stores anymore) it seems a safe bet. You won't need the digital converter, in that case.

Has anyone gone from being addicted to TV to being a cable-free household? We're thinking of getting rid of cable - partially b/c we find that we don't watch TV as often as before the baby was born, and partially b/c we *rarely* watch anything above channel 72. We enjoy some of those channels (Food Network, MSNBC, HGTV), but with so little time to watch anything, we figure we can just hook out computer to the TV for HULU or use the Wii for Netflix.

I'm not sure how it'll go. Downstairs will be ok, but I like to wind down at night by watching 30 minutes of TV in bed, but we won't have that option without cable. We were also thinking about getting the digital cable converter for the bedroom TV, but I'm afraid we won't pick up much.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Hubby & I are currently Verizon Wireless subscribers and we only have basic cell (750 minutes/month) and recently we got limited texting. Hubby mentioned that he'd like a smart phone for Christmas but it's too expensive. I haven't done any research to know how much it really costs, but does anyone have any good suggestions for something that's not too expensive (extra $50/month is too expensive).

We have Verizon, too, and we got a smaller data plan of $10/month for 25MB-- so that's only $20 extra/month for the both of us.  And the price for extra MB if we need it is 20 cents per MB -- still pretty reasonable.  We each got a Samsung Reality (which of course, I don't see on the site anymore   >:() and we paid $50 for each of them.  It has a lot of smart phone functions (browser and GPS, you can send photos, etc.)  I know Verizon offers some other similar phones -- I think they call them Feature Phones.

ANYHOW -- the husband keeps tabs on his fantasy football team, and we've surfed to find a BBQ joint while we were on the road already, so that's all we really wanted it for.  I'm not very well versed in the latest smart phone technology, but maybe that will give you a place to start.

BTW, if you talk to customer service before you buy, you CAN get the activation fee waived ($25 for the 1st phone, $15 for the 2nd.)  We had to buy an accessory pack to do it, but we wanted it anyway -- it had the car charger and a headset for $30 -- so that was a good deal.

However, for those who have a Blackberry... You know how when you send an e-mail from it, there's a tag on the bottom that says "Sent via Blackberry." Does anyone know how to change that or turn it off?

I've only ever used one Blackberry model, so I don't know if this is the same on all of them... but on mine it goes like this:

Go into Setup --> Email Settings --> click on the specific email account you want to work with --> scroll to the bottom where it says "Signature" and erase anything that's in that box --> click "Save"

Hope that helps!
