Oh man, this just kills me. I'm sitting here in tears and it's really too late at night to call my mom and tell her I love her. Excellent, excellent work.

A little difficult for me to read but beautiful nonetheless.

This is so beautiful and intimate.  It's sad, but very well done.  I loved the part where Jim talks with her in bed, telling her his fear of losing her.  There's definitely a quietness to the whole piece, apart from the serious subject matter.  It's really beautiful.

thanks, I needed a good cry.

this was so beautiful, very true to life.  I watched my fiance go through this a few years ago, it's so hard to feel so helpless and I think you captured it perfectly.

wonderful.

Man. This hit very close to home, as I went through the same thing as Pam a few years ago. You've got me in tears, so I'd say you got it all just right. Very well done.

This is gorgeous. It's achingly sad, but it still feels like Jim and Pam. Everything is perfect, from the descriptions of the drive and the hospital to her choosing an outfit to the rain. I wore a blue dress to my grandpa's funeral for much the same reasons, but it's one of those things that's incomprehensibly distressing when you're already a mess, and you've captured that. Wonderful, wonderful job.

this is so incredibly heartbreaking, but it's really a beautiful piece. a friend of mine just had a remission and we found out it spread to his brain, so this story definitely strikes a chord. again, beautifully heartbreaking story.

This story just gave me a big lump in my throat.  Your prose was beautiful as always, and it just felt so real.  I was aching for Pam.  You really pulled off first person Jim with mastery, which is so hard to do.

Wow.  I still have a lump in my throat from reading this.

This was beautiful and touching.  I too love your first person Jim.  It feels real and honest and very - him.  The whole thing, every word, was just perfect.

first off, yeah, so this pretty much brought me to tears. it is nothing like the experience i had with death, but i guess it was close enough.
and even though that i saw one place (talking about pam's old bedroom) where it is the walls a light green and .
but this was a great story. so incredibly sad. and i love all the emotion.
now i have to find something happy to read before i spend the day in tears.

Everything about this was so true to life.  My mom wore green to my grandmother's funeral for similar reasons that you gave for Pam here.   And if anyone could pull off first person Jim it's you.  The details of her losing her mother manifesting into his fear of losing her - just amazing.  And you have this perfect way of showing just how much he loves her.

Thanks so much for sharing it.

This was beautiful in so many ways that I'm not sure where to begin. The sadness comes through so intensely, without a single overwritten or maudlin sentence. So many great moments, but a couple that particularly struck me: the situation evoking Jim's fear of losing her someday, and this floored me - how being with her in her teenage bedroom made him fall for her all over again. So completely true to Jim, I'd think.

Loved the Jim first person narrative (hard to pull off - I'd be scared to even attempt!), the small details (what to wear to the funeral), that he doesn't know what to say to her...what I loved most of all: how this story is so profoundly about loss yet simultaneously an affirmation of what's so alive between them. The stunning last sentence just bursts with a sense of that - that damp smell of summer - absolutely beautiful.

I have always liked everything I've read by you. This included. I am never disappointed when I read something with your name on it.

Of course I have nothing but praise for this, but I have to especially thank you for this story told in first person Jim. I don't think there are more than a handful of stories out of all the hundreds on MTT that take this point of view. You completely convinced me of Jim's love and care for Pam, his fear of losing her, of their gentleness together. And if I have to single out one sentence that really says "Jim" to me, it's this one:

That endless sort of falling where it feels like I could never stop, never reach the bottom.

Thanks for this.

Fanfic rarely makes me cry, but this one got me. You write with such pure emotion (not the kind you see on tv, but the kind in your head). Jim's helplessness was perfectly done, because even though he's sad, her grief is far more important than his. I especially love Pam's difficulty getting dressed. It's so stupid, but that really does happen. And the hopeful ending was beautiful, the kind of thing you need to hear after heartbreak.
