I really enjoyed the banter at the beginning of this, with the off-track betting and the pigtails. And whoever above who said Jim/Toby is love was so very right.

Author's Response: Thanks, swestworld! I like the Jim/Toby possibility.

You are once again, my hero. Toby/Jim is love. This was great!

Author's Response: Toby/Jim is a really interesting pairing, but can veer into melancholy quickly. Thanks, livelovebelieve ;)

WHOA-K...some warning would have been nice...

Otherwise, it's beautiful and poetic.

Author's Response:

That's why I put "A touch of slash" in the author's notes section. :)

Thanks, Sarah!

You did such a lovely job here of showing the pain and desperation and melancholy that Jim and Toby share.  My heart just aches for both of them.  Poor Toby.  Poor Jim.  I could really see them having a conversation like that about love.  "They're not in love with us." - that line just killed me.

And I loved that there was some cuteness before it got all sad and slashy.  BabysitterJim is like my new favorite thing ever!

"If she tells you I let her give me pigtails, she's a little fibber."

That's so freakin' adorable!  (And it reminded me of how my dad let me do that once when I was really little.  Though no offense to my dad, but I bet Jim looked way cuter with pigtails!)

Beautiful writing, as always.

Author's Response: Thanks, Shroom! I'm glad there was a progression in the tone, although I think it got moody abruptly.

Author's Response: Thanks, Annakovsky, I appreciate that ;)

oh wow.  i've slashed every other fandom i've ever been into it, but it just never occured to me to slash the office.

this though?  this was just brilliant.  desperate and heart breaking and almost beleivible in a painful sense.  the characters were spot on, and it made me ache.

the last line was especially effective.  just..wow.

Author's Response: Thanks for that, ella - I'm always happy to hear that the characters sound true. :)

I completely loved this! Now, I'm not normally into slash but I am loving the angsty slash that is coming out of The Office fandom, this one in particular. Great job!

Author's Response: Thanks, im_a_guestage!  There's a lot of it right now ;)

Eesh. Never been a fan of slash, but you always write it so beautifully and you make it believable somehow. I love that you don't just go, "Forget all of the heterosexual things they've ever mentioned, they're gay!"

You make it about desperation and sadness and just wanting to find solace in someone. I don't like slash, but I like this a lot. Wonderful job.

Author's Response: Thanks, proposals, I really appreciate that. For me, slash is rarely about the sex. Like you said, it's about two characters needing something and finding it in each other. Not too different from regular DesperateNookieFic.

love jim, love toby, love everything about this fic. their dialogue had that perfect mix of funniness on the surface and complete desperation below, and your characterization of their relationship made this feel right.

i have to admit--i'm loving this new jim slash trend you're on :)

Author's Response: Yay, thanks, yippee! Especially for your notes on the dialogue + characterization.  :)

Woo. Slash really isn't my cup of tea, but this was so well-written. The imagery of the boat, and Jim and Toby are just so sad and in the same position, it just makes sense somehow.

Author's Response: Thanks, pennylane, that's very objective. I appreciate it! :)

I am without words.

I... I...

Okay.  Toby and Jim.  Jim and Toby.  They are right behind Jim and Pam as the couple I'd like to see get together.  Seriously.  They'd be terrific together.

You, my friend, have developed quite the slashy-knack!

Author's Response: Toby would be the perfect person for Jim to explore this avenue with. Good thing we have fanfic. Thanks, Beth, glad you dug it!  ;)

I got through it without puking.  Must be because it's well written. ;)

Update: Nope.  Still not loving the slash - but definitely still loving you. :)

Author's Response: LOL!!! Love it! And thanks for the update ;)

I'm seriously not into non-canon slash in any fandom; however, this was written so tenderly, and the characters are so sympathetic, that I was totally caught up by it. Nice job.

Author's Response: Thank you, Lis, I had hoped that's how it would come across.
