This is, I think, my platonic ideal of a "if they hadn't gotten back together in The Job" fic in the same was Cardiac Care is the gold standard of hospital fics. So well done.

You are a fantastic writer... with the description of the painting you gave, I can actually see it, vividly!

This is such a wonderful piece! You really do write SO well and you do a really good job with the Jim and Pam dynamic. Heck, you even portray Karen and Jim and Karen's relatiship exactly as I imagined. I always thought that if Jim didn't need Karen as a buffer for Pam that their relationship wouldn't have started/lasted but I would nevver do such a wonderful job at portraying it as you did. Thanks for a great story!

Author's Response: Thank you very much! Yep, I don't think Karen would've ever had a chance if Jim wasn't so burned by Pam. I'm glad you enjoyed.

Of course he still thought of Pam- did he think that would go away??! lol
It's always interesting to read AU where Jim took the NY job.

oh my god! thank you america! (my 8th grade math teacher, from vietnam originally - so he had quite an accent - used to say that if we couldn't answer some problem that was so simple. like 7x8 in 8th grade advanced math - therefore, thank you america for writing such a great and anticipation-filled chapter! i'm so excited to keep reading!

wow. never mind for the pleading note to continue. i swear this was a 4 chapter story but i guess not! thank god! this was a great chapter - i love jim's analysis. i hope they actually call each other or make some type of contact. i need some of your famously (or at least in my head!) perfect dialogue!

oh my god. that was beautiful, too. nowhere near as perfect as the last chapter but still amazing to see pam's thoughts.

wow. i just wrote a pleading paragraph for you to continue. how did i not realize that there was one more chapter? must read....

oh my goodness. that was the most beautiful thing i've ever read. and honest to god i'm serious. how are you such an amazing writer. the best possible situation just pops into my head and you read my mind and write it down. that was so beautiful. you're description of the painting was breathtaking and the details added later were amazing. i can't wait to see how jim will react to this or what pam will do next. this was the most perfect thing i've ever read. fantastic job. i'm seriously speachless.

wow. i must admit it pained me to read that jim wanted pam to be jealous - but i can see where he was coming from. i guess i like jim always on the outside - but i don't necessarily always appreciate his motives or thoughts. but this was very well done - a chapter i would have found impossible to write but yet you seem to have done it perfectly. i'm really excited to see what happens next and how jim responds to the package and what the painting is of. probably of jim and how pam sees him in her mind. that's my guess.

okay, we must go to commercial break. what will jim do? find out after the break...

(just for a little fake dramatic effect there. kind of what was going on in my head. lol)

Wow! Great ending! In my humble opinion, Jim and Pam live happily ever after. Not even three years could keep them apart forver. That might be unrealistic, but I'm a romantic at heart.

You seem to know a lot about art. I noticed it in this story and in some of your others. I'm taking an Art History class as part of my gen. ed. requirements, so painting and art really interest me right now. It's awesome that you can incorporate your knowledge of art into Pam's character. Great job on this story, as on all of your stories!

Author's Response:

Thanks, Sarah!

I know some about art, not really a whole lot.  I took AP Art History in high school and then worked for the Art History department in college.  A job that is not obsolete, I'm sure.  I mounted slides and worked the slide projector during professors's lectures.  Now, I'm sure they use .jpg files and computers.

It is fun to incorporate the little bit I do know about art into Pam's character.  Thanks for commenting!

Moose Tracks is my favorite ice cream too! And if Jim was sharing it with me? That would be- wow. Aaaanyway... I love this story and I can't wait to read the rest of it. It might actually turn me into a fan of AU stories. I hope you'll update Cardiac Care soon too. :)

Author's Response: I'm really glad you're enjoying this.  I am working on Cardiac Care.  Hope to have a chapter up next week.

This is a really great piece! I want someone to draw Pam's picture really badly :D

Author's Response:

Hi, Margo!  Thanks a lot for taking the time to leave a note.  I see it is your first review … so, WELCOME!

I wish I could draw the picture for you but, alas, I have trouble with stick figures.

*sniff honk*
I love happy endings. I'm glad you had Jim physically come to meet her without telling her, they don't communicate well verbally and I was afraid they'd screw it up. LOL

My favorite little detail was that Jim thought the guy leaving was her boyfriend, just loved this:
But he couldn’t move. He started at the good-looking, rumpled guy, transfixed. Still trying to process why Pam would do this to him.,

And I loved that they both asked each other what took them so long.
Great job.

Author's Response:

Hey, jazzfan!

Thanks for the review!  I'm glad you liked Rick's cameo appearance.

So, how was college hunting??
