I read, re-read, and read this story some more after you first published, but never wrote a review. However, after Frame Toby, all I could think about was how spot on this fic was! The first time I read it, I really wished something like this would happen on the show... and then it did. I thought that was really cool. Anyways, I think you did a wonderful job. Thanks for writing this :)

Author's Response: Sorry for such a slow response, BSan. I just wanted to thank you for your review, and to tell you how much I appreciate your taking the time to read and respond!

Poor Pam, to go through all that! But it was a lovely ending, and worth it. Great job!

Author's Response:

Thanks very much! I'm glad you liked it.

Good things come to those who wait...

Perfection!

I was so glad to get to the happy ending as I wasn't sure what was going on. And how Pam kept her cool when Ellie answered Jim's phone and then Jim hung up on her is beyond me.  Very nicely done.

Author's Response: The phone hang-up was one of the toughest parts to write. I decided that, despite the fact that Jim and Pam are "on each other's wavelength", they still don't fight well. I think Jim and Pam would avoid fighting as much as possible, and would err on the side of passively accepting what to Pam might be a threat to her territory. Anyway, that's how I saw it in this story. Next week maybe I'll write a Jam Smackdown! :) Thanks for reading, kaystar!

Just when I was about to throttle Jim for his obtuseness about Pam's distress, kaboom - total redemption. What better symbol of their future than this house that has real history for him and he put his own sweat equity into? Nice foreshadowing of him providing her with a sense of place/comfort with buying her the mattress too.(And really, he was only doing his duty by breaking it in ;-) I like how you wrote this as a series of mini-vignettes - like brief scenes on film that all culminate in the image of the house.

Maybe this fic is a little metaphor for our own where the hell is the ring already anxiety this summer? (And btw - that promo shows them kissing in a dorm room, not a kitchen. Oh well.)

Author's Response:

Hey, I know where the ring is. In my universe, it's in a Jell-O mold....

Thanks for your review, Colette. I'm glad you liked the vignettes; wasn't sure the pacing would work but I guess it turned out okay. I'm so glad, as always, to get your opinion on this.

Very, very nice. And it ties into the brief glimpse in the commercial for the premiere when they are kissing in what looks like a new kitchen. Look how well you tied that in! Nice.

Author's Response: Heh. I hadn't even seen that commercial when I wrote it! Thanks for reading!

This was so wonderful. I love that Pam's past with Roy still affected her, and I like that she wondered if Jim still loved her even after "the chase" was over for him. You really captured how much Jim loves her at the end. Now, if we can just get a REAL proposal that sweet!

Author's Response: Heh. I fear we may have to roll our own, so to speak. I have a feeling the only proposal we get to see is Andy's (*shudder*). Thanks for reading and reviewing!

PERFECT. I loooooooooved this!  Poor Pam, all torn up inside wondering what the heck was going on...and sweet, sweet Jim just going off quietly to build a home for them. ::sigh:: perfect.

Author's Response: Thanks! I am so glad you enjoyed this. I just have this image of the two of them snuggled down in a cozy house. Yes, I really am that sentimental!

i really liked this! although i think the darker part of me hoped jim was being shady... but let's be real, jim halpert is much closer to pulling together a home than cheating on pam w/ellie :)

Author's Response: Absolutely! I can't even imagine Jim cheating on Pam. Glad you liked this!

aw come on Pam, no Michael at hte wedding?  I mean what kind of a day is that?!  haha

Loved it! So cute and lovely.  Totally the romanticism Jim would go for with a touch of greatness.

Author's Response: Are you kidding me? /Kevin    After the way Michael behaved at Phyllis' wedding, I would lock him in the closet before I'd let him out for another! Thanks for liking my romantic Jim!

That Jim is really determined to keep secrets...for too long sometimes! I really liked this. I thought you were really true to the characters. I could totally see Pam thinking that maybe he had lost interest once he had her, and how her old insecurities came through and took over Fancy New Beesly.

Author's Response: I am so glad you thought I was true to the characters. I think it will take Pam more than a few months of dating Jim to get past all those old insecurities. Fortunately, Jim has no such insecurities! Thanks for your review.

I don't know whether to write a terrible review to you for scaring me so badly or a lovely review for the realism and happy ending :)

I'll go with the thumbs up (what has two thumbs and loves a happy Jam ending?). Seems like a very Jim and Pam type of home, too.

Author's Response:

Thank you! I'll take the thumbs up. :)

I'm glad you found this realistic! Thanks for your review.

I have to admit about half way through this one I said what the heck is wrong with him.  What a great job.  I know we can never get something like this on the show so thanks for making it happen.

Author's Response: Yeah, Jim and Pam are so in sync with one another, that when one of them is deceiving the other, it distorts the relationship. Which makes the resolution that much sweeter, I hope. :) Thanks so much for reading.

Hands down, this is the best proposal fic I've read. Excellent! I could see our Jim doing just this. Lovely. Thanks for posting.

Author's Response: Whoa! Best proposal fic? I'm sure there are better ones, but I thank you for the kind words anyway. Thanks for your review!

Oh man, I was suffering right along with Pam there. I was worried, but I should have known better, right? Hee. I really loved this, the tension you drew so wonderfully and Jim just being.. Jim. I still believe when he proposes to Pam, it'll be sweet and old fashioned and yes, will completely knock her on her ass. Maybe something like this? Yeah. Hehe, This was really lovely and gorgeous and sweet and so.. them. Awesome job.

Author's Response: I personally still want to see a proposal that involves Jell-O and a ring, but my hopes for that are fading. So I chose something a little more traditional and old-fashioned, 'cause I think deep in his heart, Jim is that kinda guy. Thanks for reviewing!

Me again.  Just had to let you know that you're responsible for my lack of productivity at work this morning.  I hope you're happy, missy.

Author's Response:

Yep. If you think reading these stories impacts your productivity, imagine what writing them does! :D

Remember the Office motto (it's right here on my mug): Petty behavior. Zero productivity. All in a day's work.

Wow. You build and sustain Pam's tension so beautifully that I was getting nauseated along with her. Pam knows what a dying relationship feels like; the minute things get weird, all of her old insecurities rise up to tell her that it is happening again. I also love that you have her ask him, outright, if everything is OK, because sometimes that is the hardest and scariest thing to do. Of course, his answer is the right one:  Love looked back at her.

It is always a privilege and a pleasure to read something new from you, NEJ. Brilliant, as usual.

Author's Response: Thanks! I am so glad you enjoyed this. The only reason I could put Pam through all that angst was that I was going to give her everything she wanted at the end. :)

This is so beautiful! Frustrating and worrisome but I love, love, love that she will not be the one to break it off. I was really thinking some of his behavior was OOC--hanging up on her? really? but that proposal, so simple and earnest... yeah. Very nice. And in the end, everything he was doing was so very Jim. Nice job!

Author's Response:

I took out the hanging-up-on-Pam scene, and then put it back. I think Jim might get angry at Pam now and then, but would not know how to express it, and might resort to just hanging up rather than saying something he would regret. In this case, he's angry at her jealousy but can't handle lying to her, so he takes the Michael Scott way out. :)

Thanks for reading!

Wow. This actually brought a tear to my eye, it was so wonderful. I'm guessing that Jim wasn't aware of the trauma he put her through, since he'd never want to hurt her like that, but the ending paid it all off big time. Great story!!

Author's Response: Normally, I'd think Jim and Pam were always on the same wavelength, and he'd realize that he was hurting her, but in this case I'm assuming she was doing her usual stellar job of faking out the world. :) Glad you enjoyed this!

NEJ, I'm speechless.  It's difficult to convey my feelings--there are too many of them.  I could really cry.  You took me by surprise--the silence, the missed phone calls, the evasiveness.  I just couldn't imagine where you were going, which was exciting.  The ending?  Guh.  Needless to say, I adored this.

Author's Response: Well, I'm glad the ending was worth the angst! Thanks so much for your kind review!

very nice, NEJ.  I will say I was starting to get a little annoyed with our boy for a minute there, but of course he's Jim and he goes and does something so...him...and I love him again.  I love this part:

This is how he shows his love, she thought. He doesn't blow the wedding money on a jet ski, or postpone the date forever. He just quietly goes and makes a home for me. For us. A future.

Ahhh....I love it.  Thank you for this :)

Author's Response: Thanks!  I risked annoying readers for the sake of a happier ending; glad it worked out!
