It's so much easier to read angst when you know there are happier times ahead.  Very well done.

PS I wish happier times ahead for you, too.

Hmm,  having my bed all to myself with the ability to stretch out whenever I want, without the snoring that would wake the dead, is one of my favorite things about being single again.  Just sayin'.

Lovely fic.

Author's Response: I guess that's something to keep in mind, EverybodyHurts. One of the positives, if my life should head in that direction. :)rnrnThanks for the review. I really appreciate it!

Nicely done.

I have to admit to slightly enjoying when my husband has to go out of town overnight for this very reason. Not that I don't miss him, but it's definitely a luxurious feeling when you're used to half of a queen mattress!

Author's Response: Thanks, jkfan!rnrnIsn't it weird how much bigger a bed can feel? I mean, your body is still taking up exactly the same amount of space, but it just feels so different!

I love your use of the bed as a metaphor for Pam's status. Sleeping beside (or without) someone is a profound part of a relationship- the "marriage bed" is a symbol that goes far beyond sex. This also reminds me of one of my very first fics, called "Held," so that's fun, too. Anyway, this was beautifully, skillfully done.

Author's Response: Thank you so much, ngllisi. I totally agree that sleeping with someone (just sleeping, no sex) is very intimate, in ways even more intimate than sex. I think it has something to do with vulnerability, and trusting someone enough to be able to be comfortable enough to fall asleep.rnrnThanks for the review!

First off, sending you a virtual hug, corking.  Glad you could channel your feelings into this fine little fic.

Of course, it was best not to think about guilty pleasures right before bed, because naturally her mind traveled to her other guilty pleasure. It was a very bad idea to think about that and then lay down to dream.  Oh, I'll bet ; )

Author's Response: Thanks, NanReg!! As a budding counselor, I definitely feel competent enough to advocate ficcing as a valid form of therapy. :) I really appreciate your review!

Don't worry Pam (and Corking), once you're OK with the space, you'll find someone to warm the other side of the bed.

(Maybe you should get one of those big pillows, like Michael suggested.  Kidding!)

Author's Response: Thanks, lisahoo. Your kind words and your review really mean a lot to me! (And yes, the pillow is always an option. :) )

Interesting take on Pam's path to independence! It seems like the go-to way of describing her time after the breakup is depressing- with good reason, because obviously breakups are always sad, no matter what the circumstances- but it was refreshing to think of her finding the bright side of the situation rather than be upset about what her life had become. Great concept & writing!

Author's Response: Thanks so much! I tried to portray Pam as feeling a sort of reluctant happiness at the idea of sleeping alone. Like, she knows it might be a sign of a problem, and that's bad, but... darn, it feels good to have the bed to herself! I'm glad you liked the fic, okayibelieveyou.

asdfaosidfaosidjfa;s. Woman. This is Brilliant with a capital "B." You're saying a lot with few words here.

Author's Response: Why thank you, lady! I really appreciate you reviewing this!

I know I've already done two mini reviews of this, but I wanted to be the first one to do an official review. Because I really, its just this weird little aspect that I can totally see happening (Pam cherishing having the whole bed), and how then that transfers over to the post-casino night-ness of it.

And really, that last line, just, gah, I can't explain how amazing that is.

Okay, really, I'm done now....

(darn, kells beat me in the review time ;))

Author's Response: Yeah, kells is a quick one. She snuck right in there!rnrnEmily, thank you so much for the review. I really appreciate it! I'm glad you enjoyed the story.

I really like this, Corking.  In few words, you manage to perfectly illustrate how Pam was feeling in her relationship with Roy, and her (not quite) relationship with Jim.  The bed is a great metaphor.  I especially love this part:

Her mom warned her that the nights would be hardest. Pam thought they were the easiest. Compared to her long, empty days (which had almost no pleasure, guilty or otherwise), the nights were easy.

Well done!  And sorry to hear that you're going through a tough time - hang in there :)

Author's Response: Thanks so much, kells! I really appreciate your review.rnrnI debated on that last line, since I didn't want to portray Pam as hopelessly depressed without a man in her life, you know? Like, she's taking art classes, and learning to be comfortable in her own skin, and that's all very positive. But in the end, I decided that positive isn't the same thing as easy, so I left the line as it is.rnrnThanks again!
