As so many of you authors realize, Pam is a self-centered bitch! Someone write a story where Jim treats her like she treats him.

It's all about what Pam wants-just ask Pam! The hell with the rest.

I absolutely loved this story. The internal monologue was amazing and my heart was breaking for Jim and Pam.

Thank you so much for writing and updating this story! I read Philly Jim when you wrote it two years ago, and I've been eager to read this one too--I always check for updates. It honestly pains me so much to read these stories, especially since we know how Jim and Pam are now, but what you're doing with these characters is so courageous and yet still real which makes reading these stories worthwhile. I sincerely applaud you for your bravery and dedication. Thank you!

Well, you finished this up while I was away from my computer for the past couple of days! I love the story. Of course, I would've loved an EPIC like Philly Jim – to see the developing relationship between Pam and Ethan – but, I'm so happy that you finally finished giving Pam that voice that you wanted her to have.

You are a PHENOMENAL writer and I really miss seeing your stories on this site. I hope that maybe there are a couple more that you'll want to give us sometime. I've gotta run. I'll stop back later and leave a review that's more about the last two chapters.

Thanks again for finishing this story, Wen! I'm so glad my encouragement influenced you to carry on.

You're right. This was a happy ending. It's not the happy ending of course that everyone equates to being a happy ending. But once I'd immersed myself in the Philly Jim/NYPam world again, this ending made me happy. I was happy for them that they could talk and feel good for one another. I was happy they parted so amicably. I was happy that Pam realized she had finally become someone she liked (that's not easy and I'm proud of her!). And even if though they didn't run off together, get married and have lots and lots of babies, they both ended up happy. Happy for each other, happy for themselves and happy with their respective partners. That's a whole lotta happy, it must be a happy ending. :)

Thank you for returning to finish this so wonderfully like a truly dedicated author. Please don't make your return temporary though! I want more wendolf!

::heavy sigh::

*sniff*

Wen, I'm so glad you finished this.  Well done, my friend.  Even though it makes me so sad, I flew threw it because it was so well written.  Pam and Jim got closure.  No drama, no yelling.  Now, please update the number story 'cause I'm feeling depressed right now :'(  I'm gonna go hug a puppy.

Seriously, I'm really proud of you.  Thank you for coming back.

Hey there... I for one, didn't realize a companion piece for Philly Jim even existed so I'm glad you started it and are continuing it. I did love Philly Jim - maybe cuz it gave a chance to think that Jim could love someone other than Pam. :) Anyway, I can certainly see where some of these scenes in their lives are coming from. Even when you really love someone, it's never perfect - even if you think it is. There's always room for improvement or you're probably just kidding yourself. Enough unsolicited advice from me! Anyway (again) your writing is really good and I'm looking forward to more on this one. Sorry for the long review.

Author's Response: NEVER apologize for a long review, kam! Seriously! We authors love long reviews -- the longer the better. I'm glad you found this one. The reason you didn't realize this existed is because it took me forever to post the first chapter, and then even LONGER to update. But I do believe I will finish it now, so stay tuned. I'm glad you feel truth in this one and are willing to give it a shot. Thanks so much for stopping by to review!!!

Okay I finally figured out why it pains me to read these AUs and why, despite the fact you're one of my favourite authors, I struggled to read Philly Jim and NY Pam: It's because you're just too damn good. You've developed a situation and a story with these characters that sucks a reader in, that becomes so believable and real that I sit here thinking "Maybe....they shouldn't be together after all!" I know you keep reassuring us that Jim and Pam are rock solid on the show etc but when I'm in this world that you've forged, I can totally understand why they would fall apart and why that's a good thing. And if things had been slightly different, or the show wasn't a 30 minute comedy, this could have very easily have happened. But the thought of that is actually quite painful really!

So I totally sound like I'm criticising this, I'm really, really not! What I'm trying to say is that the subject hurts, in the same way it hurts to read about one of them dying or the end of the movie 'Castaway' hurts. But it's a good kind of hurt. It's a hurt that means the author has done their job amazingly in conveying the truth of the situation and captivating the reader so that they're so emotionally invested, they feel the pain emanating from the text.

Sorry for the ramble but just wanted to say I don't love that you keep playing with my heart but I do love that you're so brave and talented as an author. :)

Author's Response: M&S, I think a lot of people struggled with Philly Jim and I'm glad it eventually found an audience. Because even though I love Jim and Pam as a couple, I also see how their history could cause all kinds of problems down the road (if not fully dealt with). I'm so glad that I've been able to create a believable version of this kind of tale. I'm older than a lot of the people 'round these parts, and have been around the block a few times, and I know for sure that there is no such thing as a perfect couple. And I know that people are often not honest with each other or themselves. And that's the kind of thing that I find fascinating to explore. (I mean, I like the fluff and smut and all that good stuff, too ... but the angst and drama is so interesting!). Anyway, I'm rambling now. I just wanted to say thank you so much for reading and for taking the time to review. Your comments mean the world to me and I'm glad that I've been able to do this story justice.

wendolf, you're doing such a great job of presenting the demise of this relationsip without making either Jim or Pam into the villain.  I love the turns of phrase you come up with.  Like this interchange:

“So this is you making the effort.”
“Yeah,” I said, raising my chin up. “This is me."

Love how Pam turns that around to say this is what I am becoming.

I hope you have LOTS of chapters in you!

Author's Response: Thanks so much, VB. I know there are so many people who refuse to even give this story a chance (and try to understand it ... I really don't. I mean, it's just a story!), but you are my champion and if it weren't for you, I would have given up on this one. And that would have been sad because I'm learning a lot writing it. Anyway, thank you for all of your support. You and Nan and DS are my little cheerleaders!

::mutters to self they have a baby, they're happy, they're married::  Wendy, I am absolutely thrilled that you've returned to this.  I read it from the beginning because, uh, it's been a little while, ya know?  ;)  Really strong, plausible story (and one I'm happy didn't happen).  I hope you keep with this because I'm looking forward to following along--really!

Author's Response: Thanks, Nan. Even though I know this story hurts your heart, I really appreciate you reading it. There are many that won't... You're the best, sister. Thanks for cheering me on!

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for updating! I don't care what we've seen on the show lately. You make this totally believable. I definitely could see Pam's feeling this way:

I felt sort of claustrophobic. I didn’t want that kind of pressure anymore, the pressure of making someone happy, the pressure of someone needing ME to be happy.

And I could see her regretting that she'd never had a period of just dating in her life. I love the close of the chapter. Looking forward to more!

You're the reason I created an account in the first place so I could reply to Philly Jim. Please please update. I love these two stories. I really want to find out what happens to Pam. =)

I really like Pam's side of things so far, going to be interesting to see her version of events. I've noticed you haven't updated for a while, and chance that'll happen soon. I'm dying to know what was said in the Jim Pam convo at the end of Philly Jim.....

Echoing EarlyWorm's sentiments about this line:

What about a girl who could be invisible in a crowd but never feel completely lonely because of the vibration of peoples’ dreams and stories and lives around?

This is what draws me to city living as well. As much as it hurts to read this piece, it's impossible to ignore the reality of what very well could have been Pam's situation while living in New York. Once she found her own voice... sigh.

The lyrics you posted are perfect as well. I can't wait for the next update. Well done.

Wow, again you're taking thoughts right out of my brain.

That's why I love living in a city.

Wendolf,

I love Pam's perspective here.  There really was so much of life she'd never gotten to experience and might well want to.

As for the links ... I open an IE window and actually go to the web page.  Copy the URL from the address bar and paste it in the notes.  It comes in underlined like a link and works fine.

I was going to insert one to show you, but the sites you listed are blocked here.

Well I was (am) a huge fan of Philly Jim, I think you did such a great job in that story of telling an honest, heartfelt loving story. I know this will be the same. I think this story starts off strong with Pam's struggle of listening to her "voice" and deciding what to do. Aren't we all struggling to really listen to OUR voice? (I know I am.).  This is such a great line: The real Pam’s voice. The first time I recognized that voice as me, I nearly cried. I wanted to hug her and whisper in her ear, I’ve been waiting for you. Where have you been?

It's going to interesting to see what direction you take the new Pam. I love fanfic because it allows you (the writers) to explore other possibilities. And I think after Philly Jim, I trust your instincts with our lovely Pam.

Author's Response: Oh, man. YES. I'm always struggling to really listen to my inner wendolf. I think it comes with time and maturity, and that's why I think Pam is struggling in this story. She's still relatively young and, I'd argue, maybe a little immature yet (as is Jim). Figuring out who WE are and what WE want (vs. what someone else wants for us) is a huge thing, and it's one that Pam probably couldn't do without the confidence Jim gave her. The downside is, what the true Pam wants might not be the same as what the true Jim wants. And there's the irony, right?rnrnAnyway, thanks so much for being a fan of Philly Jim. I'm not sure there were a LOT of them, but they certainly were loyal, and I'm grateful for that! I hope you enjoy this one as well.

Author's Response: Thanks so much czarag00. This one is slow going, but I appreciate your reading and sticking with me!
