I really like this story. It feels so real, like something that might have happened in the show. And, despite all the questions, angst, and Pam's state, I like the comforting part. I like that Jim was here for Pam and with her.
Thank you so much for sharing this story with us, and welcome to MTT!

Thank you!

Wow, thank you so much for that statement! I always try to make stuff like this as real as possible, and with heaps of personal experience I feel like I can.

Hurt/Comfort is my favourite troupe, and a lot of things I write include it. I couldn't help but make my first Jim/Pam fic hurt/comfort too.

Thank you again!

First off, welcome! And second, I have to say, I really enjoyed this fic. I’ve suffered with anxiety and panic attacks my whole life and they often happen at work. I wish I had a Jim to calm me down when it did, and this really just brought some inner peace to me personally. The way you described how to regulate breathing was so familiar and I could just feel it. Thank you so much for this!

Author's Response:

I'm so glad this resonated with you!

I suffer from panic attacks and anxiety too, which was one of the reasons I wrote this (I use fanfic as a coping mechanism). I too wish I had a person like Jim to calm me down, but most of the people in my life are a bit more like how I described Roy (Whoops).

I'm really happy you found some peace in it, and thank you so much for reading and your comment!

Welcome to MTT! You did a really good job of getting into Pam's mind here with her anxiety. Felt very real to many panic attack type situations I've seen before. I am 100% sure Roy would act exactly like that. Annoyed at Pam rather than trying to be comforting.

Love that Jim is there for her. At this point in S3 in canon he's usually depicted as pretty annoyed to even angry with her. What with getting back with Roy and all. However despite the times Jim is a jerk, underneath that, he's a good guy who values his friendships. That comes through here. Pam's in trouble so he's going to be there regardless of who sees him do that. Don't mind me I'm just going to go ahead and think that this was the imputus that got Pam to leave Roy, finally. Karen to call Jim for one last late night talk which leaves him single in the morning, leaving Jim and Pam free to get together. Head canon's are wonderful things.

Nice job for your first story here.

Author's Response:

Hi, and thank you!

Yeah, going through panic attacks myself gives me the ability to really describe how the characters feel, because I usually write them from how I feel when it happens.

Season 3 Jim, even if he was a bit of an ass, is still the same old Jim. I would constantly whisper yell into the darkness of my bedroom to my laptop that I just wanted him to be nice and 'old Jim', so I wrote exactly that.

And yes, head canons are very much wonderful things!

Thank you again!

First off welcome here! Always good to see a new name.

You did a great job capturing the emotions of the moment, and giving us the feelgood of Jim not being a jerk in the midst of his S3 wishy-washy phase was really nice.

Looking forward to any other works you may feel like sharing!

Author's Response:

Thank you so much!

And yeah, as much as he was as he was a jerk (Jeez he was hard to watch for a lot of that season), he obviously still cares for her deeply, and if he knew something was wrong he probably would help. He's not that coldhearted (At least, I certainly hope he wouldn't be)

Thank you again!

It was nice to Jim let go of his season 3 ego to help Pam. It was also nice to see Phyllis not act like a bitch towards Pam for once. I’m not surprised that Pam would have anxiety and panic attacks because it seems to fit her character.

Author's Response:

I know, Jim in season 3 was so annoying but I do believe if the situation called for it he'd go back to how he was. And yeah, I mainly used Phyllis because out of the other girls, she seems to be the one who would be the most sympathetic in a situation like that, at least that's what I've seen from what I've watched up to so far (I'm only on the fourth episode of season 5)

And yes, from the way Pam acts sometimes and from little background moments I thought way too much into, I can definitely see signs of anxiety in her. That and I'm emotionally projecting again :)

Thank you for your review!

I'm really excited you brought this one over! (I was the one who posted the link on AO3.)

I think it fits very well with what we know of Pam that she would struggle with anxiety and panic attacks, and you meshed it effectively with her story. And Roy basically finding it annoying is just... very Roy. I do
love the grace note of Jim, at one of the worst moments in their relationship, still dropping everything and rushing to her side.

Hope to see more from you here!

Author's Response:

Hello!

Thank you for telling me of this website, I doubt I would've found it otherwise.

Yes, even without my projection I can see her having anxiety, she certainly has some key signs. And yes, I imagined Roy just would not respond to it very well at all. He is a bit of an ass. Even if Jim was also a bit of an ass during this season, he a hundred percent would pause everything if he knew something was wrong with Pam.

 Thank you again!
