I *love* this. Perfect insight into what makes each character tick. Also really makes me want to read that fanfic about Dwight and Angela's wedding!

Author's Response: Ah, thank you so much! That's so kind of you to say, I'm really glad you enjoyed it :) And haha I do feel like we need more on Dwight and Angela's wedding...I wanted a best man speech. Thanks so much for reading and taking the time to leave feedback, I really appreciate it!

This was a great capper to this project - a really fun and natural journey through their history and their post-canon life. You really effectively captured the heartbreak and the healing and the mutual understanding between them, and how much they love each other and make each other's lives better.

Author's Response: Ah, thank you so much!! That's so lovely to hear :)

This was delightful. I think the Meredith and Pam chapters were the best because you nailed their voices and outlook.
Both the Jim and Pam companion pieces were great!

Firstly, I want to rant. It's a shame that such a lovely story ended :( I'd like it to have a few more chapters, like Erin's or Joe's or Cathy's... gosh, why there're so few women working in DM?
*Sorry, that's just me being greedy*
Secondly, I love this chapter, I love the mix of angst and sweet (and steamy) moments. You grasped that feeling that Pam truly got Jim and that despite everything, they were happy together. That's something I need right now :)
And thirdly... I hope that you'll come up with new ideas soon! I like your writing and anticipate your new stories. Thank you

Author's Response:

Haha, thank you! (And sorry, lol). So I realised the same thing when I was writing this: there are not enough women working at DM! And three of the women in this were love interests brought in for the men, which is not great. On the others - I have to say I found Erin quite grating, so am not in a rush to write anything about her character (sorry Erin). Jo’s an interesting one though, I’d not really considered that! It’s possible I’m slightly biased towards the earlier seasons…

Thank you so much for reading and taking the time to leave feedback on this, I’ve really appreciated it! And I’m really glad you enjoyed the final chapter :)

Of all the women, it's Pam who gets him the most. Not really a surprise of course. The first section was heartbreakingly sweet. That every time she sees him shed a tear, it's in comparisson to that first awful time. However as hard as that first time was I love that they've talked about it and while the scar may still be there forever, they're well past the pain of it all. So much so that Jim is secure enough in himself and in them to show those kinds of feelings. And that Pam is there to laugh, cry, or just be there with him.

The second section feels just about all to real. Espeically about that part of kids nap time means parent nap time too. I feel them there SO very much. Of course everything else about that section is great as well.

Finally the third section shows just how much she knows him. Jim not winning over Charles Miner, one of Jim's other not so brave moments in my opinion, was a great way to highlight that. However despite his flaws she's there for him. She knows he's not perfect, but he's pretty perfect for her. They both are for each other and you really brought that out will in this on and in the things Jim knows about Pam chapter of your other story.

Outstanding job getting into all the character's mindsets. You really did a great job with them all.

Fortes Fortuna Adiuvat.

Author's Response:

Thank you so much! And yeah, I think this chapter was my favourite to write, just because Pam does get him so well. I was thinking about it, and I actually really like that The Office shows the men crying a fair amount - even Dwight - it feels very real. (Also, lol at kids nap time meaning parent nap time too!)

I really enjoyed writing this, and the other fic about Jim - so am so glad to hear you liked them :) Thanks so much as always for taking the time to leave such thoughtful feedback!

This is fantastic. I am *fascinated* by the idea of Karen's reaction to the documentary, and you did a great job putting us in the mind of a Karen for whom this is a distant part of our her past. This feels consistent with the Karen we see in her post-Season 3 appearances and how she might have reacted. It's not a shattering experience, and she's to the point of having empathy for their situation and being able to recognize and remember what it is she liked about Jim, but it's still deeply frustrating for her, and she's going to be pretty naturally critical of his choices. Really well done with a really important chapter.

Author's Response: Thank you so much! Yeah, I was also fascinated by that. (Although I think if I was her, there's no way I'd be watching any of that documentary).  And yes, I did think that however much she'd moved on, she wouldn't (and shouldn't) let Jim off the hook for the impact that some of his choices had on her. Thanks so much for reviewing! :)

This is a terrific version of Kelly. A good balance of her Ryan and celebrity obsessions and her fundamental shallowness without making her feel like a complete cartoon character. And the expansion on the Pam-wears-glasses gag is wildly adorable.

You are very good at this and should continue to write for all eternity.

Author's Response: Ah thanks so much haha, that is really kind of you to say! I actually loved writing from Kelly's point of view - so am very glad it didn't stray too far into cartoon territory, lol. Thank you!

Is it kind of weird to say I was looking forward to this one? Getting Karen's views of Jim, especially post-break up is a gret challenge and I think you nailed it. We see the matter-of-fact very straight forward Karen here. That's a pretty big hallmark of her character and it makes sense that she's still be like that here.

I'm sure it would sting again to see the actual truth of Casino Night, not just what broken hearted Jim told her. She is right that had Pam not been in the picture she and Jim probably could have worked out. Sadly she got into a relationship with him at one of the worst times in his life. Not her fault and yeah she got hurt too.

I really liked how she had the thought that it's not just Pam who needs to find her courage. There were many times Jim should have had some courage too. Throughout the run of the show when I think about it. So good on her to pick up on that.

Once again great look into the mind of the character.

Author's Response: Thanks so much! And yeah, I was looking forward to writing this one actually - Karen's an interesting perspective to write from, particularly because she does actually know Jim and is very practical/normal (unlike some of the other women in this fic, lol). I'm really glad to hear you think it worked! I agree that her and Jim might have worked out if Jim had never met Pam. And yes: it's not like Jim was the pinnacle of bravery in season 3! Thanks for reviewing :)

A very interesting Karen chapter.
Even though I’m far from being her biggest fan,
I can say that I liked how pragmatic, and sympathetic she was about the documentary and JAM. She was right that it was Pam that was seen as not having courage, when Jim had his moments as well.
Like when Jim took back the card from
the tea pot.
I can also see Karen’s point in that Jim was stringing her along in their relationship by not being completely honest with her about Casino
Night. Although Karen took the risk of being with him, knowing that he had feelings for Pam,
Karen stayed with him based on incomplete information.
Jim denied Karen the opportunity to cut their losses as she said. I also think that Karen should have probably listened to other people when they said that her relationship with Jim wasn’t right.
I do think that Karen was blind in thinking that Jim was lazy in their relationship, because I think it was his VERY subtle way of telling her that he just wasn’t into it like she was. Plus Karen didn’t really see it as a sign that Jim’s head and heart wasn’t
all there for her when he didn’t want her to move in to the apartment close to him.
And it was PAM that convinced him to give into it.
I think perhaps things would have been different if the documentary was shown season by season instead of all at one time at the end. That way she would have had a better idea of what she was getting into. Anyway I think this gives good closer to the Karen chapter of the JAM story.

BTW do you think that we can get a Roy chapter?
I know that this story is in the POV of the women Jim has known, but I think it would be interesting to see Roy’s thoughts about Jim/JAM.
Because the show only showed the JAM thoughts and feelings about each other, we didn’t get to see how Roy really felt about it, or how he was portrayed in the documentary. Plus we never got to see his feelings about Dwight pepper spraying him. 😂
Anyway just an idea. 🙂

Author's Response:

Thanks very much! I'm really glad to hear you liked this (and it wasn't too painful on the Karen front lol). And yeah, one of the things I did like about Karen was that she was quite pragmatic. And I said this in another review - but I think Karen got the worst end of Jim being a coward, i.e. most of his cowardly moments (e.g. letting her think their relationship had a  chance after beach games) had a worse impact on her than any of Pam's did. So I think that would have stuck out more for her. But I think you're right that she didn't necessarily pick up on some of the signs there with Jim too.

So I'm probably not going to do a Roy chapter as part of this fic, but I agree it would be interesting to see his thoughts on the documentary! I wrote a bit about his views on Jim in his chapter on the 3 things about Pam in my other fic - but yes lol, I do wonder how he'd feel about his portrayal in the documentary. Particularly as the documentary didn't show any of his happier moments with Pam, and I'm sure he must have had at least some...

Beethoven's 5th Symphony started to play in my head as soon as I saw the title of this chapter. The long dreading part was here. But... I like it. I love it. It's really, really great.
The thing I love the most is its honesty. I feel endless tenderness toward Jim, and sometimes this affection makes me think of him better than he was. And. in those cases, I need Karen to remind me that he still had faults. And not even about how he treated her, but about his laziness and cowardliness (I still don't want to admit that, but... yeah, apparently he had a little bit of these traits).
And I want to quote the whole paragraph because I love it very much:
"She's heard people who have seen the documentary talking about Pam needing to find her courage. Which Karen thinks is a bit rich, and a bit unfair on Pam, because it wasn't just Pam. She doesn't know if the documentary has somehow edited that out, but it definitely wasn't just Pam. "
It perfectly summed up my opinion on the earlier JAM relationship.
I'm grateful to you for writing this chapter. Thank you!

Author's Response: Haha, I'm really glad this wasn't as bad as you were expecting! I do think that that was one of the great things about Karen - she was very honest, and she did see Jim (including his flaws) pretty clearly. And yes, I do think the courage was a two-way thing for Jim and Pam: and that actually Karen might have felt that more acutely for Jim, as she was on the receiving end of some of his cowardice. Thanks so much for your review, I'm really glad you liked this chapter!

I liked this one as it's more of an outsider position than some of the other ladies. Holly wasn't in Scranton as long as some other people so it would make sense she didn't really get a good bead on Jim when she was there. Michael I'm sure would have told her all about him though. So because of that I think Holly is more clearly able to see some of Jim's strengths and weaknesses in a way others can't. Same goes for her critique of Jim waiting so long to say anything to Pam. You did a great job in brining that out.

The vision of Phil pranking Phillip during the visit was adorable.

Author's Response: Thanks very much! And yeah, it was interesting writing from that perspective - I agree she's got a different take on Jim's strengths/weaknesses to the others. And thanks hehe, I really like the idea of Phil/Philip carrying on in their fathers' footsteps...

Reviewer: darjeelingandcoke Signed [Report This]

This one works well, I think - the frame Holly sees Jim through is primarily through her relationship with Michael. It tells you a lot in not so many words about the post-departure Michael, a guy who still resembles the goofball who ran the branch and who Holly fell in love with, but has definitely noticeably matured. (No way an earlier Michael isn't watching every minute of the documentary, or is okay with a godparent closer to home.)

I was always struck by her comment that Dwight and Jim seemed like friends, which felt like a weird miss from a usually pretty sharp character, so it's interesting to see her confronted with the reality and how much it bothered her.

I still think Jim's advice to Michael was solid given Michael's ...Michaelness. But I can see where a settled Holly would zero in on it.

Author's Response: Thanks! Yeah, I did feel like the Michael we saw in the finale had matured quite a bit (maybe because he finally got the family he always wanted) so I wanted to factor that in. And the Dwight/Jim miss from Holly was weird! I also think Jim's advice to Michael was good for Michael. But it also cracked me up in that episode where Jim and Pam are trying to give Kevin dating advice and Pam sort of implies that Jim could maybe have been a bit more forward (although again, from a place where she's happily settled with Jim).

Wow, I didn't expect Holly's chapter, but it's fantastic! I like her a lot, her delicacy mixed with craziness, and here is a glimpse of both of her sides (I consider her wild affection to Michael as slightly crazy, whoops). And it's nice to see her observation, as someone who didn't spend a lot of time with our faves and could look at that at a different angle (her notice that Jim and Dwight were pretty hostile to each other, for example; I like it that she didn't pick a side in that rivalry as it did the rest of us). And the fact that sometimes she didn't get some inside jokes (jello! jello! such a cute nod to canon!) I found it very sweet.
Thank you for such a lovely chapter!

Author's Response: Thanks so much! And yes haha I agree, I think Holly needed to be a little bit crazy to be the one for Michael...and the outsider perspective is always quite interesting lol. Thanks for reviewing, I'm really glad to hear you liked this one :)

Oh, it's such a sad chapter to me... I want both to raise my 'Sainthood for Pam' banner and pity Jan. I feel that there's a (slightly) broken woman who lost so much and whose character only worsened by these losses. And Jim... well, he was always correct and respectful of her, but Jan was obviously biased here.
You capture her state wonderfully!

Once again reviewing for the last few. They are all so fun. I really enjoy the delusional Jan ones. Very good voice here for Jan. It kinda makes sense she and Michael we’re together. They are both so self absorbed. But with Jan I think it’s a whole other level which you demonstrated.

Meredith you nailed her voice.

Angela. I like how someone still has to be the office mattress. Oh and of course she’d bring up that Dwight saved him against Roy. And what woman (including Angela) wasn’t impressed with how he scooped up Pam when she was hurt.

I really enjoyed what you did with Katy. Yup he’s that good. But also that dorky but isn’t that what makes him so loveable.

Just wanted to let you know enjoyable these are. Jelly beans by the bagful to you.
