This was so good. I especially loved your description of the mall at Christmas. That has a certain feeling that you really captured. I also love the 'almost' moments...the Christmas card practice and the mistletoe. I really enjoyed reading this.

Author's Response: I'm so glad you enjoyed it Sprinkles. Thank you!

So Im horrible and am just now reading this and I now fully regret every second that I wasnt reading this before. I loved that you went backwards with the timeline, starting post-s9 and ending with pre-cameras. We got heartbreak, hope, adorableness, pregnant pam.. it’s truly like Christmas all over again. I loved this so so so sooooo much!!

Author's Response: Aww, thank you Aly, SO much!

I usually don’t like christmas stories but this one didn’t even feel like one which is probably why I liked it! The little pieces of things that were in the show but not tied to christmas was so genius and now I can’t see them any other way. Thank you for writing this I enjoyed it.

Author's Response: Thank you so much!

Oh, my goodness. This is the most gorgeous thing. I don’t even have the words for it. The way you worked backwards and gave us these little memories from their entire relationship-just stunning. As always your prose is perfection, and you paint such a vivid picture that I have no trouble picturing each scene clear as day. Beautiful. This will become a story I revisit every single Christmas.

Author's Response: Aww, BT thank you! I was beginning to think this whole thing was just a bad idea but your take on it absolutely made my day. 😘

The second I read "holiday fics are clearly not my strength" I knew this was going to be brilliant. And then you open with a poetic meditation on the nature of memories. Amazing.

JAM BABY #3! And genuinely, how dare you pair the sentences "the origin story of his existence as it all began and ended with her" and her gift ending up in a lacy pile on their bedroom floor. That is simply rude.

I appreciate you giving us this reminder that Season 9 is all going to work out fine and Pam is going to know she's the center of his universe again before you remind us there was a time when she felt like she never would be. And I'm glad you mostly followed the Dwight Christmas pattern of ending things on a hopeful note for them.

The skating is incredibly cute, their first Christmas is pretty magical, and Jim having actually gotten her something we don't see him giving her for Benihana Christmas is instant headcanon.

Adding the adorable and tense moments in their early years was great - some really vivid pictures you painted here. And I thought the structure ended up coming together well... so many memories here end up being in conversation with each other, and you can see the way Christmas has always been a particularly special time for them.

THAT RIBBON. You slay me.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and yours. (And by the way, my mom just finished The Interestings and wanted me to tell you she loved it.)

Author's Response: DJC you are always far more generous than I deserve with your reviews, truly. Thank you so much for your kind words. I hope you had a fabulous New Years!

This was just lovely. I liked your decision to count these items down backwards, although it ended up leaving me sad :(

* He smiled and leaned over, whispering into her hair, "I'm not going to let you fall."
He would spend his days making sure she would never fall.*

SWOON

I think the ribbon section is my favorite, the little details and tension building in your writing is great. Also, I am an angsty b*tch ;)

Great job!

Author's Response: Thank you so much! That line was a favorite too and I love that you are an angsty b*tch honestly :)  Have a great New Years!

Bored,
You are a true craftsman.
You do with words what the great painters did with pigments and oil.
You have created such beautiful images of their love story - truly getting at the soul of GD's vision for the show, beauty in ordinary things.

My favorite was the mug but you know how I have a penchant for the origin story of unexplained mugs that turn up on the show.

But the ribbon, how you write this
to make something so simple be so vivid and beautiful.

I loved reading all of this. Absolutely stunning.

Author's Response: Wow, Max. Thank you so much for your generous words! It is always incredibly affirming to hear that your words have touched someone so much. I so appreciate it. Have an amazing New Years!

Bored, this was absolutely beautiful! You have struck the perfect balance of heartache and romance as you go through their Christmas history together. It was the perfect representation of their journey together and I love the way you went backward in time rather than starting from the beginning. And as always, the way you string words together is pure poetry and I'll always be in awe of it. Loved it so so much!

Author's Response: Thank you WW! I really appreciate you taking the time to read and review, it always means so much. Have a great New Years!

Great look at some of the other gifts they've given each other through the years. Stating in Austin and working back through their history was a great way to go. You got all the feelings of every time in their lives with each one as well. Bravo for getting all those emotions plus all the Christmas feelings all pulled together. Really well done.

Author's Response: Thank you so much Warrior for taking the time to read and comment! Have a great New Years. :)
