So sorry about Leia. Maybe she is living it up in some cat cafe in the sky with Sprinkles.

The Jim-Dwight contempt is STRONG in this one. And I love the quickly replicating pattern of Pam as Jim's co-conspirator but also Dwight whisperer.

The image of Pam pointing the flashlight at her own face and teasing Jim is adorable and so very them.

Michael ripping his Ross-purchased pants to get into the cat cafe is a great remix of canon. Also, I very much want to see Michael end up with one of the cats now.

"Michael leaned in. “You know, you can just walk right under that stuff.”" Lol.

This was a *very* fun chapter. Sorry it comes on such a hard day. RIP Leia.

Very sorry to hear about Leia. It's always heartbreaking when one of our pets leaves us.

So yes, it's a cat murder, but as Pam said, it's still a mystery. The fact that it was Dwight who was in full on "who brought the joint into the parking lot," investigative mode tracks beautifully. Of course, he'd try to go all out for something like this. Great characterization.

Pam knows her way around the warehouse and where exactly to get a flashlight in locker R.A.? Feels like a bit of backstory to be had there. Hopefully it won't interfere with burgeoning JAM.

They're either being really smart about all this or they're being overly analytical about everything. Or both. Still, it's fun to see them start to bond over everything and to start to put some pieces in place.

Looking forward to more for sure.

Jellybean for Leia as well.

Author's Response: Thanks for the review, and thoughts for Leia. She was a good cat and will be missed.

So I know about those cat cafes -don;t know how but I do and I love that detail in this story.

"He wondered why she knew so much about the inner workings of the warehouse, but didn’t press." - OH No...this can't be good for Jim.

*People didn’t always listen, but animals had a way of making you feel noticed.* - this line - esp. in light of your news really tugged at my heart. And very characteristic of Michael.

And I appreciate the line about the pot on the roof having just come from a concert where I'm sure I got a contact high from the smell. But being it's Michael who said it, it could just be an herb garden, someone growing basil and oregano.

I see you with those finger guns...

I love how organically you have introduced and inserted the characters and some canon moments...Dwight as the officer, the firing at DM, the PPC, Phyllis, Sprinkles' death.

I agree with Pam. This is going to be fun.

Author's Response:

The weed garden will definitely come back, lol. Glad you picked up on the warehouse reference... there be trouble ahead...

I knew you (and only you) would pick up on the finger guns <3

You are so good at writing dialogue for these characters, it's crazy. The Pam/Jim/Michael interaction feels so authentic, and I definitely laughed out loud a few times. Have I mentioned what an awesome writer you are? Love you, love the fic, can't wait for the next chapter.

Okay, to start off: I'm so sorry about Leia! All the good vibes to you and your family, losing our furry friends is never easy!

“"Hank is being stingy on the details, but he said whoever did this is – and I quote – one sick fuck.”" - I love reading Michael cursing xD

Dwight being the cop on this case, and almost losing his badge because of it? Perfect. I love it!

The piece about the Alicia Keys concert KILLED ME! I am now deceased, thank you TD xD

I love that they all come together over the death of a cat, and THAT'S why Michael wants to make a podcast. I knew he would be Oliver!

Can't wait to see if they talk to Phyllis! I wonder how that will go.

Great job as always, TD! Now, time to continue watching the show

Author's Response: Thanks, Em! I'm glad you liked Michael cursing, when I read it back I picture him being bleeped and blurred out, lol

Oh yeah - I see Em mentioned the artwork in her review. That reminded me: That TOTALLY rocks. :)

So this is the most wonderful thing that could have been conjured from your amazing JAM loving brain! I love OMITB! I am so excited about this and how you’re going to build it.

Forget the investigation, this sends JAM in a whole new direction! (I hope no one has done that one yet other than your reference at the top of the chapter.)

Author's Response: Yay! I take it from your comment you're a fan of the show?

Insert gif of Dwight and Michael raising the roof here -

I'm excited to get into this fic. Though I haven't seen Only Murders - I'm glad at least I'm well aware of Serial and the references. "What is up with Jay"

What you have done so well is draw the scene - so easy to see them in the elevator and at the bar. Excellent and organic ties back to canon with the sharing of air buds/earbuds, the fire drill, NY 6/Scranton 7, and Dwight dressed in his boots and uniform. Again picture it well.

Your character work with all was done so well, especially Michael. Loved the "talking head" pieces to introduce each. My fave line came from Pam's

*But I suppose when I came back to Scranton, a little bit of New York City came home with me.*

Must mention the artwork - loved it...and it says so much before you even start the story.

As the chapter ends, the mystery begins and I'm so here for it as well as the romance and the Michael shenanigans. And who knows, maybe there's a little Hulu in my future once hooked on this.

Well done!

Well this is PERFECT timing, I started OMITB last night and I’m already hooked, so it was awesome to see this update this morning!!
Looking forward to more!

Author's Response: Thanks so much, I hope you're enjoying the show (and the fic!) so far!

Woohoo!!! You already know how excited I am for this story. Only you could take the OMITB plot and apply it so perfectly to The Office.

Jim, Michael, and Pam make up the perfect trio in pretty much any circumstance, and I can't wait to see their interactions as they make this podcast and try to solve mysteries together.

And I have to mention "air buds" once because that line is simply fantastic.

Brava, my talented friend! It's an honor to beta for you.

Nice meetcute for Jim and Pam here. That Michael is kind of the catalyst for them to notice each other and then meet properly is also fun. I also really like how quickly they hit it off. Getting each other's non-verbal glances, bonding over the podcast, already sharing ear buds, all lots of fun.

And there's been a murder! Dun Dun Dun! And it's, probably, Sprinkles. Not that I really wish that on Angela of course. So whodunit? My bet is on Dwight for obvious reasons, but then again Angela can be quite the unlikable lady so there could be any number of suspects with motive.

This one feels like a lot of fun for sure.

I'm so excited for this. Jim. Pam. True crime. Amazing.

I haven't seen Only Murders in the Building, but I love love love where you've placed all these characters so far. You described Dwight and Angela so well without saying who they were and Michael's dialogue is my favorite.

And sharing the earbuds! Ah!

Please update hourly, thank you.

Author's Response: Thanks so much! Add OMitB to your list, you won't regret it :)

1. The artwork is PERFECT! I absolutely love it!
2. New fan of Only Murders here, as you know! I absolutely love how I can pick up elements of Charles in Jim (sort of), Oliver in Michael, and Mabel in Pam, but they are still themselves. It feels so seemless. I love it
3. Bratton Graphics?! I wanna know all about Creed's Graphic Design company!!

I absolutely love this concept! Now time to bug the husband so we can finish.

Also, WHAT THE HELL IS UP WITH JAY?!?!

"He was riveted. He was mesmerized. He was in trouble." This whole bit here is peak AU fanfic, in that it's both a really nice moment on its own AND it also makes me vividly imagine how similar their own first meeting might have been and how awkward Michael might have made it.

Brigitte Purr-dot cracks me up every time I think about it.

The Michael monologue in the intro is classic Michael. I love the expansion on the Scranton-Paris comparison in particular. And the triptych of lines about him hanging out with Packer is perfectly him - funny and also extremely depressing.

Michael is truly an excellent wingman. Packer clearly owes him credit. HE JUST WANTS TO BE A PART OF SOMETHING, DAMMIT.

“Harmless? Well, I suppose it depends on your pain tolerance." Oh, you two and your bonding over your weird mutual acquaintances.

RIP Brigitte Purr-dot. We hardly knew ye. But I have a feeling we're going to see a very smart... well, very well-meaning... team of detectives get you the justice you deserve.
