Ugh. I hate this, mostly because you did an extremely good job with it.

wow - you all were not kidding about the lack of sweet and fluffy. this has depth, and is written in such a beautiful, flowing way. i see them making some AU-esque choices... but nothing that's really out of character. maybe just out of bounds of what's considered in character. anyway, this is fabulous. your pam is sensational.

Wow guys. Very well done! It's dark, and messy, and complicated and of course we'll probably never see something like this on the show, but that's what fic is for. Loved the timeline acceleration and  the fact that Karen stuck around and drunk dials Jim (because THAT HAPPENS!). And Pam in the car with Roy? Yowza.

I think my heart stopped beating when I read this line:  "We don't talk about this. You understand, right? I'm with Jim. Roy?"

Like, literally stopped beating.  I LOVE that you've made Pam into such a real person.  God, I've felt so much of what you've written her feeling.  The whole Karen drunk-dialing thing?  The jealousy?  The revenge fuck?  Haven't we all been there?  But to see it come out of Pam was just un-frickin-believable.  WOW.  Seriously.

Author's Response:

That's one of my favorite lines, noodles!  It tickles me to no end when someone picks out a line that I particularly love.  Thank you.  And yeah, I've done the drunk-dialing AND the revenge fuck, so what does that say about me?

Holy god, that was dark and I loved it. I love angry, power-obsessed Pam. Like seriously. I'm not even mad over that trick ending. I think you really pulled out a part of Pam that's mostly hidden. SO good.

Author's Response: Oh, gosh, you know - we really weren't trying to make it a trick ending. We just thought it had more impact if it was ambiguous. Food for thought, though.  We'll keep it in mind.  Glad you enjoyed it otherwise!

Fantastic. I loved this. It was painful, but awesome.

Oh, God, this hurts so much. And even though it hurts, I love that you went there. It feels risky and dangerous, messing with these two and their happy endings, and I'm sure the truth will come back to haunt Pam. You did a really good job of selling how these two - who seem so perfect for each other - could get to this point where things are so wrong. And, also, poor Roy!

Author's Response:

Thanks for this, Semby.  And thanks for the info over at LJ.  We don't know much about that, but we're learning.  And don't worry about these two crazy kids - they still worship each other. It's just not all it's cracked up to be.

We're glad you got something out of this.  It was painful to write it (really, it was!) but it was something we just had to do.

Holy crap. I was not expecting the Roy twist. And the pregnancy? Yowza. I like to read a little darkness now and again...nice work.

Author's Response:

Sometimes a little darkness is good for the soul, you know, the way dark chocolate is good for the heart?  Yowza indeed.  Thanks!  Reviews that start with Holy anything are among my faves.

I really like the accelerating count in the beginning paragraphs, and then the way the count kind of loses control, like a wonky clock.

Pam realizes that for all they had in common they have twice as much in different.

Dark and complicated. I like it.

Author's Response: nomadshan, we've loved your stuff forever. We have Hope bookmarked.  Thank you for your comments. They mean a lot to us.

Author's Response: Also, I don't think we meant for the numbers to be wonky, but the nature of the story just unfolded that way!

I like this a lot -- stories don't normally go past the happy ending with Jim to think about what problems they might have. Besides the great stuff with Karen (Jim is SO the type to let an ex linger, because he needs to be loved), I liked the section about "Art. Xbox.", because you know, Jim and Pam may be best buddies at work but things can be pretty different when you're living together.

As someone who pretty much only wrote dark, unhappy fic before this fandom, I'm excited to see some believable, understated darkfic like this, and hope you guys will write more in this vein.

Author's Response: Aw, Sophia!  You're the queen of Pam fanfic, so we're honored to have a review from you.  Seriously, we think you're super talented. So glad you liked it. We don't know if we have more in us, but we'll certainly try.

This is as completely and unabashedly real and messy as relationships get. So well done, but not only did you stick the knife in Jim's back when Pam fucks Roy, you had to twist the knife and make her pregnant?! Oh you evil, creative, fabulous authors. Painful, but really great stuff here! Kudos.

Author's Response: Thanks Par5!  We're fans of your work as well, so this means a lot to us!  Hee, you used the F word. That makes us blush.

Oh, goodness, this is so bloody freaky. I love how it's been written, how subtly painful it is [the last line as well as I'm with Jim just ripped me apart], how if you read it well enough it can tear you into tiny little bits, but you can still see it possibly happening. And it's freaking scaring me.

Awesomely written, amazing and beautiful and eloquent, so well that I think I'm going to cry. I don't cry a lot. Really.

Yeah, now I'm going to try to do something that will get my thoughts off this.

Author's Response: You said so many things we love!  Bloody freaky?  Painful? Scared you?  Our work here is done.  Here's a hanky.  We give with love.

Holy cow. The twist of Roy in her car. Pam putting on faces. It's really nice to be surprised by characters this far into a fandom, but I really liked seeing things through new eyes. Well done.

Author's Response: Thanks, Paper Jam!  We were going for something really different, and I hope that worked.  Yes, we all want happily ever after and sunshine and puppy dogs, but in the meantime, let's see how gritty these guys can be, eh?

Good for you! Well written and original. I'm not surprised some people around here don't like this, but I think you captured Jim and Pam really well. Keep at it!

Author's Response: Thank you! We knew some people wouldn't like it, and frankly were surprised at all the positive responses we did get.  We're ok with the bad reviews, but we like yours better.

Ouch.  I like it.

I particularly like that you kept Karen around, and made her an issue in Jim and Pam's relationship, partially thanks to Jim's lack of balls and commitment issues (very realistic).  Yeah, it might not follow sitcom-land rules, but you've treated the characters like real people and real life is sometimes fucked up, because real people are, well, human.  Well done!

Author's Response: Yup. We know this would never happen, and that Pam probably isn't ever going to be this vindictive, but if she were real she might just have these little character flaws.  We like to think she's got more than one or two dimensions to her.  We love even mean, spiteful Pam.  She's kind of like we'd like to be, if we could get away with it.

I like it, particularly for how you deal with Karen. I like that you had Karen stay in Scranton even after breaking up with Jim; it always seems kind of ridiculous to me in fic when they break up and 3 days later she's moved to NY. And the drunk-dialing! I love that because it's very real. I don't buy Karen as some totally independent, confident, self-aware girl...everybody has moments of weakness. Especially when they're drunk, heh.

She throws her mug at the door as it closes behind him, the cup not even giving her the satisfaction of a nice, loud shatter as it bounces off the carpet.

Just love that. It's one of those movie-moments that when attempted in real life just doesn't work.

Author's Response:

Hell yeah. Every boyfriend I've ever had has had a girl drunk dialing him for the first couple of months. It's an epidemic!

And thanks for pulling out one of my personal favorite moments.  - Leopold

Oh man.

This hurt in the best of ways.  Gah.  Love the way you wrote this--the quick snippets and the timeline worked really well, and I had to read the end 3 times to make sure I understood (It was perfectly clear, but I think I just didn't want to believe it).

Love that you wrote a story where things kind of go to shit, because these characters and this relationship does come with its baggage (love your emphasis on Pam's self-esteem issues here)--and it's great to see that play out even when they're together.

Author's Response: Thanks for getting it!  We don't necessarily love to see Pam this way in real (tv) life, but it's fun to play with in fic, isn't it?  We appreciate the positive feedback, especially when you can tell it's really thought through. Thanks!

Oh. my.  This is just devilish.  I almost missed this line: "We don't talk about this. You understand, right? I'm with Jim. Roy?"  This is marvelously clever, all the subtle lines that add up to disaster.  Nicely done.

Oh you do hate us, don't you?

As dark as this is, I could (unfortunately) see something like this happening, which scares the living shit out of me. This is scary and edgy and frightening and so, so good.

Author's Response: No, we love you! That's why we wanted to give you a little something different. Certainly, we don't mean to besmirch the Pam we know and love. We just think she's deeper than people give her credit for! Thanks so much for your review!
