So I just read this again after getting my hands on a copy of Friday Night Lights and I listened to the song as I read this and the effect it has is amazing. It, alone, is already freaking gorgeous, but all of that put together - the JAM, the dance, the beat, the rhythm, the tune, the garage, the practicing, the everything - so awesome. I love Explosions in the Sky, too, so extra points for that one there for linking one of my favourites to one of my favourites.

when Tom Waits was asked what his last words would be, he said, "Never have I waltzed to "My Country 'Tis of Thee".  Still, it's a waltz, for it's written in waltz time."

That has no bearing on this review, it's just, anytime I can mention Tom Waits in some shape or form, I do.  Here, I really like this.  It's cool because this is far more than ordinary fan fiction.  Perhaps, hell, I believe you could get this published.

Also, anyone who pimps Explosions in the Sky is rather cool in my book.

Really, though, very cool piece here.  Much respect.

Author's Response:

Tom Waits has said so many wonderful things so I cannot blame you for wanting to mention him in any way possible.  And if I could have a sountrack to my life, I'd want Explosions in the Sky to do it.

Thanks for the review.  I'm glad you liked this!

Ok, first things first....I adore that Explosions in the Sky song.  The moment I read the note about it at the beginning, I felt the need to put it on for effect. :)

This was beautiful...the imagery and phrasing and emotion is just....perfect.  And I shall never look at a vacant parking garage the same way.  You should write something every. day.

Author's Response:

It is the most beautiful song.  Is it sad that I'm already planning Jim and Pam's wedding song?  Oh well.

Thank you for this review, I was sketchy about this story but you made me feel much better about it.

Ahh, so beautiful! Made me a little teary!
And I love the metaphor here:
They've had many, many dances, none of which to music.  So they're clumsy when they start.  She gets frustrated, and gives up many times.  Cries to her mother.  But he soothes her, tells her it's only practice, and that he knows they'll get it right.  He makes her try again.  She does, and within the notes of the song she finds confidence.  Soon they begin having their own private rehearsals in vacant parking garages.

THAT was gorgeous! Oh I loved that. I've never heard the song, but I swear I was hearing it in my head with your great description of the instruments. And there was a line...something about this time the audience was not made up of concrete pillars...THAT is good stuff. What great writing.

This was lovely. How romantic of Jim to make a CD of possible songs for their first dance.  And what a beautiful dance the waltz is. I'll have to listen to that song.

Yay, Jam wedding!!! This is so beautiful!  I love that there is no dialog in this -- just like the song, no words, just music.  And dancing.  Yay again!

Sho cute! Ugh, that is on my top five list of things I want to see Jim and Pam do. Dance. In more ways than one *wiggles eyebrows*

Beautiful.
