What if I'd said no to lunch that day? Would it have made a difference at some point in the future? What if I had picked up on the fact that I was already starting to compare him to Roy? Why didn't I realize what that kind of comparing really meant?

What if Jim hadn't smiled as he handed me my coat? Or held the door for me as we walked out of the office? What if I hadn't noticed that disapproving glance from Angela as we passed her in the hallway?

Would everything still have turned out like this?
