Chapter 21 by Azlin

"Anyway, he's been, um, saving up for the ring, so I think we're gonna go pick one out next month."

"Right." He paused, and she glanced at his face for the first time since mentioning Roy. His expression was inscrutable. "Well, that sounds great, Pam. Congratulations." The word seemed a little hollow coming from him, but she was sure she was just imagining things.

"Thanks. And, uh, I'm sorry... that I didn't, um, tell you."

"Oh, no. Seriously. Don't apologize. It's totally fine. I'm totally fine."

"Okay."

"Okay." He really did smile genuinely then.

Maybe this would still work out.
