I usually hate fics where Jim and Pam don't end up together (because if there's no hope for them, what hope is there for any of us, really?) but I thought this was beautifully well-written. I love how Pam achieved her dreams of traveling where she wanted to and learned more about herself along the way. I was glad she and Jim were able to remain close; my relationship with my own Jim fell apart, but it's very important to me that we stay friends, because he's my Jim. Thanks for writing the first post-JAM fic I've enjoyed. :)

Author's Response:

"because if there's no hope for them, what hope is there for any of us, really?" i loved that.  too true!  i just want the best for them, because they're such fantastic characters, and i don't know what that best is but i hope it's out there.

you know, i've been hearing about people having their own JAM situations, and all i can say is: wow.  sorry.  i think that in relationships, there should be a certain level of platonic love and respect and admiration, and those are qualities that can continue on when love is no longer there in the same way.  hope you find that kind of love again!  and thank you so much for the feedback.

Summary: Jim and Pam are tired of the maybe's.

Maybe, if she tried a little harder, she could replace all the if’s in her life with a reason as to why she is wasting her life dreaming of someone who doesn’t dream of her.

This line broke my heart. Oh, Pam. :( Beautiful job, Dwangie, as usual.

Author's Response: Wow! Thank you so, so much!!

Truthfully, if he had to put his sorrow into words, he’d write about how he can’t sleep anymore, how he barely listens to his favorite songs because the lyrics that mean so much to him remind him of the girl that means too much, and how he can’t look people in the eye and say, “yeah, I’m fine,” because he knows all too well that he’s completely lying.

You're killing me, Dwangie. How you summed up my break-up with my own Jim from Pam's POV in the first chapter and now from Jim's POV in the second chapter is astounding to me. Are you a mind-reader or something? ;P

Author's Response: Hahahaha thank you so much! And no, unfortunately, I\'m not a mind-reader. \r\nThank you very, very much! And I\'m sorry to hear about your own break-up, but I\'m glad I could somehow put it into a different perspective. ;)

I absolutely *love* the way you captured Jim and Pam's banter in this chapter. My favorites:

"What?! Jim...no!"

"Yet...we're going to anyway. Funny how that works."

"I can't afford a washer and dryer."

"Didn't say anything about you paying for it."

So sweet and so Jim. :)

"I love you."

"Who is this?" she chuckled.

"Don't be funny. I'm being completely serious," he laughed.

"Well then, I love you too, strange person on my phone."

Adorable. Jim being protective at the laundromat (No one would ever treat Pam like that. Ever) was great. Amazing job!!

The beginning of this chapter is effing hot. Thank you for that. :D

His stomach rumbles and he thinks he might break the fast when no one is looking; after all, he's wearing leather shoes, and certainly not did refrain from sexual activity, so he might as well ignore the Torah completely and have a bagel.

I *love* this line!! It's amazing.

She looks confused. "Wait, Pam – you mean Pam. That Pam."

He tries to fight the smile on his lips. "My Pam."

Way to make me melt into a puddle, ha ha. I love that she's "his" now.

This story was fantastic. Saving to my favorites.

Author's Response:

yeah - i thought it might be a little much, with the steaminess, but i have to hope that at that time last year, there was sex and maybe some conversations but mostly sex.  it was such an alluring contrast, i couldn't say no to my brain :)

Please write more "Jim is Jewish" stories!! I love them. (My Jim is Jewish, so I guess that explains my being biased.) :D

My favorite lines from this chapter:

In 10th grade he kissed Amber Rosenthal outside of the JCC. Awkward.

Going to his gay temple, Beth El Homo.

Maybe it's because he's been fasting today and he's really slow on the uptake because of it.

These all made me laugh. Great job! I'm off to review the second chapter.

Author's Response: thank you!  there is probably more 'jim is jewish' on the way - somewhere :)

I absolutely loved this. My favorites:

It isn’t being alone – that certainly isn’t fun, but she’s dealing with it as best she can. It isn’t that she isn’t cut out for the city – she knows she is a suburbanite at heart, but has been surprised by how much fun New York has been.

It is that being here, doing this, has made it very clear that she isn’t as talented as everyone thought.

They hadn’t wasted time in their hometowns at dead end jobs in dead end relationships. The world of possibility that had opened to her just two years ago was one in which they have always lived. They are more confident, more talented, more sophisticated, more daring, more… everything.

She is almost thirty, and her biggest artistic accomplishments are winning a contest judged by elementary school students, displaying some watercolors at a mandatory art show at the Scranton Community Center and four seconds of animation in a commercial no one aside from her coworkers ever saw.

The explanations for why Pam isn't cut out for New York/being an artist are so insightful and dead-on. I think it shows an extreme sense of maturity and growth on her part to admit that she may not be cut out to do what she wants to do. And I love how she's OK with that, as long as she has Jim. Amazing job, LC.

Author's Response: Thanks so much! I\'ve been in Pam\'s shoes on this one and it HURTS, although I didn\'t have a Jim to cushion my fall or encourage me, so she\'s luckier. ;) I\'m so glad you enjoyed it!

I *loved* this, so, so much. I especially empathized with this part:

It makes me ache sometimes that I’d never gotten to meet this man that meant so much to Jim, to know I’ve forever missed out on a part of his life; that I’ve missed any part of his life. I’m silly about these kinds of things, I guess. I’d gladly hop in a time machine just to get a chance to watch Jim on the playground with his elementary school friends. I’d love sit in the bleachers and cheer for him at one of his JV basketball games, give anything to have watched him cram in the library for one of his finals in college, highlighting lines in his textbooks like I’ve seen him do so many times on forms at work. I wish, somehow, I could have been a part of everything he’s done and been.

My Jim's mom died of breast cancer our senior year of high school. I would have loved to have gotten to know her, to have been around for all of my Jim's life before he met me. Great, great job LC. :)

Author's Response: Well thank you, Ms. Beesly, I really appreciate that. I\'m sorry that you never met \"Jim\'s\" mother; I can relate in terms of people my \"Jim\" has lost as well that were important to him. Thanks so much again. :)

I've never been a huge fan of stories where Roy is violent towards Pam, but this fic works for me. I really liked it being set in S3, since it means Jim's with Karen and is therefore less present in Pam's life. I'd love to see where you take this. :)

Gah. The part about Pam trying to get the courage to tell Jim was amazing, as was the part about how he kept breaking her heart with Karen. I think this line sums up your dilemma about Pam having more control:

Of course, she was Fancy New Beesley, but she still was weak and distraught Pam.

She's trying to be more confident and independent, as she shows with her nonchalance with the wet towel, but she still needs to feel loved and comforted. Jim can't give that to her, so she reaches out to Roy, who has always been there. I'm loving the quick updates. Keep 'em coming! :)

This story keeps getting better and better...

Would she finally marry Roy, and on their wedding night, think about Jim rising above her, his mouth on hers, his body entering hers in a slow, deliberate stroke? Would she have babies with Roy, name them with Jim’s preferences in mind, raise them with Roy, but put the boys in basketball uniforms instead of football? Would she live to an old age with Roy and not care if he went first, but would pray to God that she died at least a minute before Jim because she wouldn’t be able to live knowing he was gone?

... and you keep writing brilliant things that make me want to cry. ;P

Maybe she’d just get into her car and drive to California, or into New York City, or maybe Florida. Maybe she’d cut her hair short and she’d wear jeans and cute t-shirts and 3 inch heels. Maybe she’d meet a man who would make her forget about Scranton, Pennsylvania, and Jim Halpert, and Roy Anderson, and weddings and dreams. Maybe she’d really be someone different now.

There are absolutely no words for how much I love the Pam you're creating. I see a lot of myself in her and hope she gets her happy ending.
