It in no way makes up for the absence because, hello? Taunting cliff-hangery-ness!
However, it was a lovely chapter. Especially loved this:
she knows that I don’t just mean physically tired, but the kind of exhaustion that comes with the last game of the season. You’ve rooted for your team, cheered and screamed and booed when things didn’t go their way, but your support wasn’t enough to bring them to victory. Except this time, you’ve had enough, and you won’t be back next season.
Poor Jim. But, yay, she's tired too!

Interesting choice of lyric quoting. I never quite know what to make of that song. Little Green and some lyrics from a few other JM songs make me wonder some things but I've never taken the time to research my Joni-Mitchell-Does (or doesn't do?)-Motherhood theories!

Author's Response: I've always loved the lyrics to that song (lots of other JM ones too.) It's pretty explicitly about motherhood, but not the same situation as this story. I guess it just evoked a certain mood that I had in mind as I wrote. Anyway, thanks for your feedback!

This is great. I'm really enjoying reading something where I actually know the setting for a change!
I've just read the everything in one go, and have to say - you capture certain things about London really well. The rammed bus, Camden on a Sunday, RAIN, lol.
