Oh man. I know this is an older story, but I'm gonna review anyway because I loved this.

This just killed me. Seriously, it killed me dead. The Jim and Pam ones the most, because they were just beautiful and sad and tear-inducing, but all of them were great. I loved Michael making an inappropriate comment about Pam's body to her father (heh), and Dwight's "this too shall pass" made me tear up more than anything in the whole story.

And the hypotheticals! Man, SO good.

Thank you for writing this!

Summary: Past Featured Story

Jim and Pam surrender to silence after "The Job." A virtual smut-angst festival!

This is smut. Serious, hard-core, unapologetic, squirm in your seat, not-safe-for-work, wild and unhinihibited smut, punctuated by merciless and heart-wrenching angst. In a couple of chapters, there will be smutty angst, and in others, angsty smut. There's even a couple of chapters with no smut at all and some fluff-happy-funny mixed in! But it all ends with a happy bang! Haw. You were warned.

I don't know if I've ever reviewed this or not, but oh man.

I LOVE this story. You've got such a good grasp of both of these characters. So much of what makes the Jim/Pam relationship perfect is how much they communicate with nonverbals, and you really succeeded at getting that across here. They don't speak much, but when they do, oh man do they say a lot. This is so excellent.

What I love the most about this story (and if I can't pick the amazing Jim/Pam stuff), it's how you inject little moments of comedy that make it feel so authentic. Like Jim sending Dwight's stapler, and Pam taking pictures of it at all the famous New York landmarks. That's beautiful and perfect.

Yay! I'm glad that there is more of this. I remember reading the first two parts awhile ago and wondering if it would be updated.

This is a very interesting look at Pam's life if she'd left, too. I like that you have her changing in ways that are similar to how she changed on the show, but maybe a little... faster. And farther, I guess?

She'll run into Jim, right? Please? :)

HA! I love that you called back to Beach Day. And I loved the whole scene with Jim in front of the production crew for the first time. So, so great.

Author's Response: *bows* Thank you. There\'s also a callback to what Jenna Fischer said she did when auditioning for Pam in the story. The scene with Jim and the production reps was fun to write. There\'s no way he wasn\'t freaked out by the whole prospect from the start.

"She thought about his tongue, his transfer, their hands, and her answer." That's my favorite part. I just keep rereading it and reloving it every time.

I'd love to know which 14 songs are included here. Need to beef up my Jim/Pam play list. :)

Author's Response: Hey, look! The first reviewer found one! \"your tongue, your transfer, your hands, your answer\" is from \"Kiss Me on the Bus\" by The Replacements. \"Transfer\" referring, of course, to something completely different in that context. I\'m glad you enjoyed it, Corking. Thank you for your review.

Aww! What a great ending to a fantastic piece of work. I love that you left Jim's message a mystery just like the show did. It's really none of our business, is it? :)

And Jim being Jewish has definitely made its way into my own personal canon, thanks to you. I love here that his Jewishness sets him apart from the other characters, and how Pam saves him from Michael and doesn't call him out, and how he gravitates towards the blue and white displays at the mall.... Oh, it's just so good.

I'm going to miss having this story to look forward to! Please tell us you've got something else in the works?

Author's Response: I did write the card, but, no, it didn\'t really feel like it was any of our business. I\'ve written sex scenes for these people and the *card* felt too intimate. I know the canon is going to contradict me at some point about Jim\'s ethnic background, so I\'m enjoying my version of things while it still makes sense relative to the story proper. There was just something kind of distant about him in that Christmas episode. It brought to mind my own experience of the holiday season, so I decided to write toward that. Finally, I *do* have something else in the works. As I type, Angela is in another browser window, rushing down the stairs at a certain farmhouse, struggling with the zipper on her dress. I\'m quite excited to share it with all of you.

Summary: "She sits in a cramped bathroom stall alone and cries in relief when the negative sign appears."

That's it-- I'm going out and buying some David Foster Wallace TODAY. Question: If I can only afford to buy one book by DFW, which book should it be?

I got so excited when I saw that you updated this. I love what you've done with Pam, how she's got this fire inside of her. I just love this whole thing so much, I want to take it by the girl's locker room and make out with it. :)

Author's Response:

Ha!  This story is enough of a tramp that it'll probably tongue-kiss you under the bleachers, Corking.  So cool to read this and thank you so much!

On to DFW.  You can read quite a bit online to get your feet wet.  The Howling Fantods is an amazing site (www.thehowlingfantods.com) - start there.  Check out the link to "The Uncollected DFW" - some really wonderful and very early (like from his undergrad at Amherst) things there.  They also have a bookstore.  Harper's has made most of the pieces DFW wrote for them available online.  Go here:  http://www.harpers.org/archive/2008/09/hbc-90003557.  On a more personal level, Dave Eggers' site (www.mcsweeneys.net) has memories and tributes posted.  Some are quite moving and will give you an idea of who he was beyond being an incomparable writer.

A must-read - and maybe start here - is the text of his commencement address at Kenyon College in 2005.  Here:  http://www.marginalia.org/dfw_kenyon_commencement.html.  Such a simple concept, he takes it down, down, down to the molecular level to make sure that you understand what it means to learn how to think and how that can inform every aspect of your life.

After you finish that, you can probably decide for yourself what you want to buy!  Books are expensive - I often spend my lunch hour pawing through paperbacks and hardcovers at Goodwill.  Good luck and bon voyage!

Wowza. This was so hot, and so beautiful, and... just wow. That Neruda poem is hot as hell, too. Seriously, I already ordered "Brief Interviews" from Amazon, now I'm gonna have to get some Neruda. You're doing horrible things to my bank account, you know. :)

"I fix the lock on my bedroom door and I let my dog judge me." That's my favorite line. I, too, have an aversion to getting laid in front of animals, so I loved that whole exchange.

Just an epilogue left, huh? But then where will I get names to add to my Must Reads list?! :)

Author's Response:

Awww, Corking, this was the sweetest - honestly!  That was the Neruda poem that started it all!  I sent it to Lovefool and said, "Holy crap, READ THIS!"  Funny, that poem had many different places in this story.  It was originally in Chapter 1, then I had Pam overhearing it from the hallway, then I had it in a footnote of Chapter 3.  I never imagined Pam giving it to Jim to say, "COME ON!  You need to let yourself go and give me a little more - I'm dyin' here!" but I think it worked out okay!

I totally have the same thing with the dog in the room!  I don't know where that line came from but it does seem to be a favorite and it just plopped out of my brain - no forcing!  As far as a reading list goes, there is a Books thread in the forums - you should check it out!  Thank you so much for such a great review - I really appreciate it.
