I love the line about how he held her hands over her head and kissed as far as he could reach. HOT!

Author's Response: Thanks, NEJ!  I know we'll never get a scene like this on the show, but how I wish we got one where they are talking and we're all IMAGINING that they are remembering something like the hands thing.

Jim wasn’t even listening while Pam was talking. He was just staring at her lips and thinking “do it do it do it,” but his body seemed paralyzed.

Perfect. Absolutely captures Jim!

Her hand was free for only a split second, though, before Jim took it back. Pam’s heart felt like it jumped into her throat. Whatever was happening between them, it was definitely no longer about safety.

This is so sweet, and so in character for these two. Well d one!

They stayed out there until the sun rose and the surfers took over their beach. They fell asleep using their sweaters as pillows, and each other as blankets.

Well, this is a disappointment. You did a great job of the build-up, but then left the conclusion of your story to our imaginations. It feels like you chickened out here. I don't necessarily need a graphic play-by-play, but this is so generic I can't even tell if Pam and Jim are supposed to have  had sex. As I said, a disappointment. Lovemaking on the beach would have been a sweet reward for all their angst.

He pulled her wrists behind her, and held them there with one hand. With his other, he drew the backs of his fingers along the underside of a breast. She moaned, arching her back. When his mouth covered her nipple, hot, wet, she cried out, and her knees buckled.

That? is one of the sexiest passages I have EVER read. You're amazing, shan. Really amazing.

Ah, wonderful. Reminds me of The Notebook, although it's certainly not a duplicate of that famous kiss in the rain. But something about the mood or tone reminds me of that lovely moment. Thanks for this!

Author's Response: You know, it's funny you mention that, because I wrote the story before I saw the movie, and when I finally did see the movie it made me want to go back and look at the story again. It's difficult enough to follow a story that switches point of view so frequently, but this was a little jarring:

"Suddenly, Pam felt flushed. She pulled off her nightshirt and started kissing him in a way that he knew would lead to something good ... something that he used to only dare to think about in the wee hours of the night.  "

We start out in Pam's head and end up in Jim's. If that is a deliberate stylistic choice on your part I think it is a mistake. It jerks the reader right out of the story, and forces us to figure out who is "talking". I recommend that you rewrite this section to show clearly which point of view we are seeing the story from.

Good luck.

Author's Response: Thanks for the recommendation.

I liked most of this story, but the last chapter was just a tad schmaltzy for me. *shrug*  Nothing particularly wrong with it, but it was just a little too cutesy Brides Magazine for me. That's just a mater of taste, though.

Author's Response: Probably was too schmaltzy but I needed a little fluff!

Reviewer: NeverEnoughJam Signed

Nice dream sequence. I especially liked the "tone of voice" Jim speaks in when remembering the basketball game. Jim so rarely sounds "masculine" in these stories, but here you have caught a competitive young man's very voice: "faked him right out of his sneakers". Cute, if still a little soft for a man.

Loved Roy yelling "Sweet" when Jim announced his love for Pam. I laughed out loud at that part.

Author's Response: Thanks! Roy's catch-all response for everything...

FYI, the word "discrete means "separate or distinct from". You use it in the sentence "Pam was discrete about making calls to cancel the wedding plans but the reception desk wasn't in a very private place." The word you mean to use here is "discreet". Similar spelling, different meaning. It means what you want--circumspect, modest, quiet, with discretion. A lot of people make that mistake. Just thought you should know.

Author's Response: Thanks. I'm aware of the difference - I just didn't catch it on the final reading before I posted it.

Reviewer: NeverEnoughJam Signed

Um. Jim has been in a coma for several months now. He should be getting intense physical therapy to prevent his muscles from atrophying. He will be losing a LOT of weight, since he will be on a feeding tube. Pam will not be permitted to crawl into bed with him. And by now his leg would have healed. You might want to condense this timeline a bit.

Author's Response: I'm aware of the physical implications of a long term coma and chose to gloss them over in favor of the story. Maybe I'm being glib, but this is just fanfiction. I would never publish a story with such gross inaccuracies. On the other hand, Kill Bill 2 has Uma Thurman in a coma for 4 years and and then she gets up and starts kicking ass right away so I guess the lesson is you can only get away with this if you have the clout of a Quentin Tarantino!

This is essentially my take on the "unseen" challenge. I've written a couple of these, and I originally thought I'd do one for every episode, but I'm thinking that's too ambitious for me -- especially when someone else has already done it so perfectly. But for what it's worth....

Okay, this is going to be tough to write, because I feel very exposed right now.

I just finished reading the entire story, all 318 pages of it. I have read a lot of good stuff on MTT, but girl7, I have to say this is the most powerfully affecting story I've read on here. Or anywhere. You have seriously reduced me to tears (much like Pam in the last 20 or so chapters :D). I mean it. Between listening to a continuous loops of the "Eyes Open" album by Snow Patrol, and reading the whole thing at one sitting, I just don't know how to convey how moving and real and sweet and angsty this story was. I feel like you have captured the very essence of what makes the story of Jim and Pam so compelling, so extraordinary. It feels real. It feels incredibly painful. It feels epic, in fact, the more so because Pam and Jim are just a couple of ordinary people, and you capture that so well, but also because you capture that spark of extraordinary connection between them. It's that incredible connection that lifts this story beyond lust or even run of the mill romance; it's what takes two people who are the essence of Everyman and elevates them to near-mythic status.

I'm babbling, which I do when I am emotionally overwhelmed. I am almost embarrassed to be putting all this down, because I feel positively flayed right now, over exposed. But as a writer who has gone through everything it takes to put it out there the way you've put it out there with this story, you deserve to know that your story has profoundly moved and touched me, girl7. (Plus, you have made me fall in love with Jonathan Halpert. Again.) I am sure it has profoundly moved and touched other readers, as well. I hope you consider a professional writing career, because in these 130,000 words (the length of a book manuscript) you have written a fine, sensitive, emotionally compelling novel. I could make suggestions to improve the pacing, length and tone, but there's no point. You don't need that. You have everything it takes already.

So excuse me if this is rambling and uncoordinated, but I just wanted you know how much this story moved me.

Once.

Author's Response:

First of all, you've almost got me in tears here - I say it all the time (and as a fellow writer, I know you understand), but thoughtful feedback is just such a gift.  And as a fan of your writing, it means that much more coming from you. Seriously, I'm so, so grateful to you for taking the time to tell me how you feel about this.

It's funny because of all the stuff I've written, this is the one that I'm really most...attached to, probably because it was such an undertaking, and certainly because it was nothing other than a kind of awe-inspired wish fulfillment; the core story that G. Daniels & friends gave us with these two just floored me.  I've never written fan fic before, but this was just something that wouldn't (and still hasn't) let me go.

I also wanted to say - without being inflammatory or dredging up a bunch of old b.s. that isn't worth the energy - that I had an experience very much like yours (or what I understand yours to have been), way back in September, I believe it was.  I was a very new writer/poster at the time, and it was a disconcertingly hurtful and worse yet, terribly discouraging experience - so yeah, I know what you mean when you reference putting it all out there and how hard it is to do that.

I'm really glad you decided to come back, because I know how difficult it can be to shake it off and keep going.

All this to say - I really appreciate the feedback, and I'm so glad that the story spoke to you.  Makes it all worth it.
