I read this for the first time months ago and remember thinking that it was a shame that such a great story would go unfinished, so I was surprised when this appeared in the recent section! You deserve some kind of award, because it takes serious dedication to resurrect a story after 10 years. I love the college universe that you’ve created for Jim and Pam with Kelly and Angela as Pam’s close friends and even a little bit of Kelly/Ryan and Dwight/Angela too. This is truly a great story, and I’m excited to see it finished!

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I can’t tell you how excited I’ve been to come back to this story that meant so much to me then, and means so much to me now. I’m so so glad to be able to give it the ending that it deserves! It means so much that people are still enjoying it.

I normally don't review older stories (mostly because the chance of the author every seeing it is small), but this one really stirred something in me. I am absolutely in love with this story. Kelly is so perfectly in character with her dress and her stubbornness and her desire to make Ryan jealous just one last time and Toby is so perfectly in character with his binder of questions and the scars of his divorce and his fear of dying alone. I never saw Toby and Kelly as compatible in any sort of way, but this completely changed my mind. I'm in awe of how well this flows; it feels like a deleted scene from an episode. Their dialogue feels so natural, and I laughed when I read Kelly's thoughts on Gabe taking her old desk. You've really managed to draw out a similarity between Kelly and Toby that I never would have picked up on my own. Beneath their personalities and quirks, they both just want to be loved by someone, and the difference comes in the way they go about doing so. Toby's quiet and has come to an acceptance of who he is, while Kelly throws herself into the arms of men who don't deserve her and agrees to marry Ravi (who I don't think she really loved). There's something so sad yet beautiful about the two of them sitting on the annex floor on Kelly's last day, talking about love and dying alone under the pretense of an exit interview, and the kiss between them feels like the most natural thing in the world. Kelly's reaction afterward is so perfectly Kelly, and Toby's abrupt exit mid-conversation is so perfectly Toby (he never seems to get what he deserves). I teared up at the end (a testament to your incredible writing) when Kelly gave him her chair. It's such a small gesture, yet so meaningful, representing the tiny seed of hope she left him with. This story is truly a masterpiece.

Summary: She’s been wondering if he ever thinks about her, or when he does, or why. She wonders when she'll stop thinking of him in this way, or if she ever will, or if she'll ever find out what his lips feel like. She’s thinking about this as she’s getting ready to leave at the end of a long work day, when the phone rings. And it’s him.

I love this story so much! So much fanfiction is just pure Jim/Pam, so I find it really interesting to read about alternative endings to their stories, not to mention the fact that this is incredibly well written. You did such an amazing job mixing bittersweet moments with past memories, creating a truly believable scenario in each chapted. If you don't continue this, I may have to hunt you down.

Summary: Past Featured Story

On a road trip, Jim's memories keep him company.

Memories take place throughout Jim and Pam's relationship, from friends to husband and wife (pre- to post-series), but they are framed by events that occur during the Texas period (post-series).

However, one warning does apply to this story, but has been omitted to avoid spoiling readers for a major plot point and story theme. This warning applies for Chapter 10. I really love this story. You do such a good job establishing the dynamic of Jim and Pam’s relationahip, and I love how you’ve mingled past with present and created these bittersweet moments. I absolutely love your idea of how the hot sauce packet came about; it felt like I was reading right out of the script of The Office!

Author's Response:

Thank you so much. :) I've wanted to do a frame story for a while, but nothing seemed like it suited the format, but I'm pretty excited about this one. I'm glad you like it!

It absolutely makes my day when someone tells me that what I've written feels close to the source material, so thank you for that! So much of that first big chapter took on a life of its own, and the hot sauce packet wasn't even originally part of the outline for that chapter. It just showed up in the middle of drafting it. :) I don't know if that happens to you, but it's really fun when you get this little gift of an idea you didn't expect in the middle of writing. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to comment. I really appreciate it.

Oh my gosh. I just spent somewhere around an hour and a half reading this, and it was totally worth it. I’m not going to lie... when I first read the summary, I thought this was going to be cheesy and out of character, but I am so glad that I was wrong. First of all, the premise of this story is fantastic! I mean, Jim and Pam as CIA agents?! It’s such a creative, out of the box idea, yet each character you included fits perfectly into their role! I love Jim and Pam’s connection, Jim and Dwight’s coallition, and even the role that you put Karen in, which suits her personality extremely well while still wedging her in that infuriating spot between Jim and Pam. Every chapter has a new, creative twist or a perfect line that makes me fall in love with this story all over again! You did an excellent job balancing inner monologue and angst with action, plot, and dialogue. All of your characters interactions are spot on! I love the idea of the alternative personalities of all the agents (Especially Andy! What a creative explanation for his obnoxious personality!). This is where I would normally insert one of my favorite lines from your story, but I really can’t choose even a few; they’re all so clever! I also admire your consistent updating schedule and use of the thirty one day challenge! To sum up this gigantic paragraph I have now concocted: I really really really love this story, and I am very excited to read more!

Author's Response:

I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I love writing AUs precisely because of the challenge of keeping the characters in character while the world around them shifts, so thank you very much for the compliments. I'm delighted the concept didn't keep you away, and I hope the rest of it lives up to your excitement!

I read this entire thing and completely forgot to review, but better late than never! This was such a fun and cute story! I love stories written in messaging format, and you did a really good job with it. The balance between messaging and regular chapters was perfect and farther solidified the way that Pam felt that her personality online and offline were different. I like how Jim and Pam both shared the same experiences but their cautiousness as well as differentiation in persepctive blinded them to each others' true identities. I'm still in awe at your consistency in posting, and I'm never disappointed by the quality of your content.

I love this chapter. You’ve taken the tension of ‘Conflict Resolution’ and built a perfectly canon encounter with it. I love the details of this one, the way Pam is so natural in Jim’s house and lets herself become so vulnerable in his presence, only to become defensive when she’s unsure or afraid. You’ve perfectly captured Jim’s inner turmoil and its contrast against his ever kind actions, each filled with his increasing desperation to lay his feelings before her. Jim’s quiet resignation to her indecision, expecting the embrace at the end of the chapter and simply accepting of just being in her presence, is so believable and heartbreaking. Your ‘over anlyzation of everything’ really adds depth to your story and makes it enjoyable, as always :)

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I'm trying my best to be as "canon" as possible with this little outsider storyline, and I'm glad that it seems to be working out :)

Reviewer: dwangela Signed 1
Date: January 04, 2018 Title: Chapter 1: Weekend 1: Part 1

I am absolutely in love with this story. I think you did an outstanding job capturing Jim's vulnerability and inner turmoil following the booze cruise. I really like his inner monologue at the beginning, which bounces between his hopeless affections for Pam and scolding himself for his inappropriate feelings. I really like how his inner battle contrasts with his actions toward Pam the first time he comes over (under the pretense of fixing her toilet of course). You did such a good job switching between Jim and Pam's perspectives. In some stories that I've read (and written, if I'm being honest), the switches are very choppy and a lot of material just ends up feeling repetitive, but while I was reading this story, I never once felt that. The way you showed the same situation from both of their perspectives felt like one was just filling in the details for the other rather than retelling the same story. I found your portrayl of Roy very interesting, especially the way he treated Pam with indifference and neglectance and covered up his mistakes with extravagent apologies that made Pam second guess the negative feelings that multiplied as she continued to spend time with Jim. The interactions and dialogue between Jim and Pam felt so natural, like I was just observing them from a distance, which is really difficult to manage. My favorite part of this story so far was Valentine's Day. From Pam's affinity for the holiday to Roy's insensitivity to drunk Jim inviting her over, it was absolutely perfect. It was so cute that even in his drunk state, he was worried about Pam being unimpressed by his house and messy appearance, and his frantic preperations were rather endearing. The way his friends noticed the energy between them and slowly backed out? Genius. That's something I've definitely seen happen in real life. Out of the Valentine's Day chapters, the best was definitely drunk Jim and Pam. Their dialogue was spot on (are you sure you're not Greg Daniels in disguise?), and I literally laughed out loud when I read the portion where Jim orders the pizza and Pam's logic about the heart shaped pizza. I was afaid drunk Jim would go to far with Pam, but you struck the perfect balance with the whole 'you should break up with Roy' statement. It was just enough to embarass Jim and get Pam thinking, creating that Jim and Pam angst that everyone loves, without Jim actually crossing the line. I thought that the way they handled it over IM was perfect and also very symbolic of their relationship. I think I've rambled enough for one review. Overall, this story is just amazing.

Author's Response: Wow! I am blown away by the compliments! It really means a lot to me that you took the time to touch on so many different aspects of my little story :) I'm trying to do my best to stay as true to the characters that we saw on TV as I can, so while I'm not Greg Daniels, that comment made me feel as though I'm doing Pam and Jim justice. Thank you so much for the support!

Your character voice are so realistic, so smooth, and so believable. You’ve taken these tiny moments from the show, something as easily overlooked as Dwight’s anime crush (what a fantastic character), and created this bittersweet moment where his fictional obession meets Jim’s feelings in a way that could seem cliche or silly if written by almost anyone else, but instead feels heartwrenching and encapsulates the emotions surrounding Jim and Pam’s friendship throughout the earlier seasons. I like this a lot.

Jim’s power fits perfectly with his personality, elaborating on the sympathetic side of him that the show developed, especially in his relation to Pam. Pam’s power was just as fitting; I always thought of Pam as very perceptive in not only her art, but her easy cohesion with her coworkers. Roy’s was a little less of a obvious choice, but worked seamlessly in meshing the routine he and Pam shared in the latter stages of their relationship with the added abusive aspect of his character. Glad you ended up posting this on MTT!

Author's Response:

I'm so grateful for the positive feedback! :) I elaborated more on my thought process re: power choices in another comment response. But as far as Roy's power being non-obvious, it would have been obvious and all-too easy to give him super strength. It was the first thing I considered, but it wouldn't have jived with how Pam ended up being so close-mouthed and, for lack of a better term, bruise-free. The abuse had to be subtle, systematic, and psychological in nature. It also had to be impossible for Jim to detect with the naked eye, because any obvious signs that Pam was being abused would have made it obvious to him that something was wrong, rather than merely giving rise to the suspicion.

Summary:

A Quiet Place crossover. Gory, action-packed, dark, irreverent, and relatively hilarious (all things considered). This fic is primarily JAM-focused, but also prominently features some traditionally-underutilized secondary characters.

Takes place around the start of season 4. Just before Fun Run would have happened, if the world hadn't ended.

I recently read this story as well as the only other Office related apocalypse story in existence, and it turns out that I kinda have a thing for this genre. This was definitely something different than most of the works published here, and for me personally, it was refreshing to read something new and not quite so Jim and Pam heavy.
