So, so well done. I'm resisting the urge to call it "lovely" of course. Hee. So instead I'll try to be specific. As a writer, I like the idea that it is the word itself that defines and sustains this new space they've found themselves in. It sets the tone for all of the sentences and paragraphs- you've written this in an elegant, balanced style that demonstrates the word "lovely" without having to use it in every paragraph. Beautiful, skillful work.
Author's Response: Wow. Gosh, thank you so much. You know what was fun...was that the song that inspired me I think happens to have just a melody and words that work so well together. I listened to it the entire time I was writing -- which I don't usually do...I think for some reason it helped with the tone of this if that makes sense. And that's high praise ;-) The intimacy of them being in Jim's childhood room (I've got a thing for the idea of him as a little boy...uh, not like that ;-) Pam listening in, and Jim's joy at having her there with his family. Just in his life (the hand to his lips, sigh...) In fact, this entire story feels like a sigh of relief.

We don't see enough first-person fic around here, so thank you for tackling what could be a fairly daunting genre!

Author's Response: Aw, CM, that's so cool of you to say! I am finding that I'm really enjoying dabbling in the first person more and more. It's just fun! And sometimes the story just seems to need to be told that way to really get where one of them is coming from. Especially when the idea behind the story is more about one of them more than it is the other. The line you quoted was one of my favorites, so I'm SO happy you enjoyed it!
