I don’t think a single one of us can fault Pam here, and if someone does... I’m pretty sure they’re lying.
This is seriously so good. It can be hard to keep the balance between angst and lust, without either being completely unrealistic, but you managed to do it so well. Poor Pam is just stuck in a tough spot, and you took us through so many emotions in just a few paragraphs.
Some highlights for me: how something so perfectly benign as Jim’s reaching over her for a cookie is enough to spur her on. (“Fabric softener and sunshine and missed opportunities” should be a candle scent.) Her engagement ring branding her. The fact that she knows she’s going to do it again.
But that second to last paragraph? Oh yeah. He knows.
And bonus points for using a Taylor Swift song for the title. I’m honestly that easy to please sometimes. But now that we know you can write like this... I’m probably going to need more of it.
Thank you for sharing this!
Author's Response: Thanks Coley! I really appreciate you taking the time to review, especially after you’ve already read the thing.

That was gratifyingly hot, and I don't blame Pam a bit :) Well done.

This was a lot of story in a short story and it was great! I love this line: "She was sure that she did too, even though she'd explicitly instructed herself not to."
This song has been in my mind as a great prompt for a story, and you did it proud!
Author's Response:
Thanks Sprinkles! Oh my goodness, please write your idea for this song! The world needs more fics based off Taylor Swift lyrics and to be honest I think it’s kind of proving to be your specialty...

Not miserable at all. It's an interesting take on Pam's thought process at that time in her life. Her thoughts and actions betray her true feelings here. She still wants to do the right thing and hang on to her old relatioship, but even here in her most private of moments, she lets her heart guide her and she basks in its glow. Great one-shot here.
Author's Response:
Thanks Warrior. Miserable in that it doesn’t end in HEA. I doubt Pam would be as cognizant at this time in canon, but that’s the beauty of fic...
