Ah, yes, the birthday suit image is very a propos! A funny chapter!

'She told me she always made you a devil’s food cake for your birthday because you were such a sweet little demon,’
that is so awesomely perfect and amazing!
Author's Response: Wow, you really are delving into the back catalogue, Hannah! He can be a sweet devil, can't he? Thanks again!

"I’ve never slept with a married woman before." LOL!! Very sweet, very sexy. I love seeing these two crazy kids all happy and in love.
Author's Response: Glad you picked that line - I kind of liked it too ;-) And thanks for digging up this series and reading and reviewing, Finer Things.

Hahaha this entire vignette had me laughing. Sooo funny!
Author's Response: Great! I do have a thing for Jim playing basketball. But, I guess that's obvious, lol. Thanks a lot!

*giggles* such cute banter!! Love the subservient comment, and Jim saying they should wear matching clothes. LOL! Aww and she called his mom for the recipe. That's so thoughtful and sweet!
Author's Response: Writing their dialogue is really fun, so glad it made you laugh too. Thanks Finer Things!

Colette, thanks for linking to this. It's wonderful!
Author's Response: Glad you found it...had almost forgotten about it myself when I saw the Jim/basketball reference at TWoP. Thanks for reviewing!

What's better than Jim Halpert playing basketball? :-) Love these vignettes!
Author's Response: Nope, it doesn't get much better than watching him play basketball. And, you know, doing some other stuff. Glad you liked these little scenes..and thanks so much!

I think you write banter and the double-entendres so well for these two. It is such a pleasure to read. I totally see Jim and Pam eloping because after all the drama surrounding the planning of her first wedding which never happened, somehow I don't see her as being too eager to repeat the experience. I am just glad to get a little happiness between the two of them; we haven't seen that in a while on the show!
Author's Response: Thanks Morning Angel, that means alot, because it's always hard to tell if the dialogue only sounds right in your own ears when you write it. And nothing worse than banter that falls flat! Glad to provide a little happy JAM - lord knows I've put them through enough misery in my short fic career!
Date: January 02, 2007 07:00 pm Title: Birthday Cake
Ok, I forgot to mention that I also LOVE that in this fic, they are at a point where they can joke around with each other about previously painful things like the line where you had Jim say something like "oh back out of marrying someone I've been in love with for years? who'd do that?" that was GREAT. again...good stuff!
Author's Response: Yeah, I actually think they would get to that point (at least I've made it happen in several of my stories, so they'd better.)Thanks again!

I just adore your vignettes and this installment of the Engagement ranks as one of your best. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE hot, sexy Jim and the idea of them celebrating their engagement this way. I also love that he's so in tune to what she might be doing (saying she wants an elopment when what she really might want is a big wedding). I'm all in favor of them eloping though. I have a feeling that will be SO romantic! Go for it! Can't wait!!!!
Author's Response: Oh, that's so nice to hear, LoveFool! Who doesn't love hot sexy Jim? (Well, maybe Dwight.) Anyway, thanks so much, glad these scenes are working for you.

Hooray. This is a great, great thing to come home to.
This: "She asked what kind of wedding he wanted and he repolied, "One that will make you my wife."
... is why I ship JAM. I can totally see him saying that.
And this: ‘Now, where did you say this growth spurt was…here?’
...had me dying with laughter while my computer screen started to fog up. Excellent combination.
These vignettes are great. Keep 'em coming ;o)
Author's Response: Thanks much, monkeybear! Glad you're enjoying these...they're fun to write. (BTW, the first line you quoted was actually not mine - it was one that xoxox had seen and said reminded her of part of my story...same idea though, and yes, very JAM-ish.)

Ooh, now that's the way to celebrate an engagement! I love the little mention of the one exception of the horizontal activities: "That was vertical." Hee! And, gotta love the pancakes.
Author's Response: Glad you enjoyed the pancakes and the, ahem, vertical activity...after all, they have to mix it up a little, right? Thanks, Semby!

‘Well, for one thing, I’ve never slept with a married woman before, so that’ll be kind of exciting.’
Heh. I do love that smart-ass boy.
Yummy!
Author's Response:
I've always been a sucker for a smart-ass boy myself (doesn't show, does it?) Happy to supply the yummy. Thanks, ElizabethLynn!

There's this greeting card that I bought ages ago and have kept in a drawer because when I read it I just want to cry. (Yes. I am a total sap. I have a card in my wallet to prove it. lol!) It's a b&w picture of a woman and a little girl standing outside a store window at a wedding dress displayed on the mannequin and the caption reads:
"She asked what kind of wedding he wanted and he replied "One that will make you my wife."
Thank you for making me want to cry at work. I'm in a room full of people and they're looking at me funny.
Of course - that could just be what they think of me in general. :)
Seriously though - what I find so lovely about this installment - and what I find so lovely about that silly card is that it's what I think in a nutshell is important when discussing this particular subject (which is ironic - for someone who gets paid to plan parties and the like). And in reality - I think it's my resistence to settle for less that keeps me on the outside of that store looking at the dress instead of wearing it.
OK. It's official. Fanfic is my new therapy. ;)
Author's Response:
Sorry to make you cry...but, at least they were happy tears, right? I really do think all Jim would care about was marrying her - not how. And eloping just seems so romantic (and kind of sexy...running off together, etc.), especially after Pam's 3 yr. wedding endurance contest.
Anyway, glad this silly thing struck a nerve...and holding out for the scene on the card? Sounds right to me. Thanks for your always lovely and open reviews.

when you kept screaming ‘Yes!’ about an hour ago, I kind of took it as an affirmation
That line is SO Jim. :D And SO hot.
He doesn’t let her hands go until he’s slid too far down her body to reach them any longer.
*Foom* That's me, going up in smoke.
And they absolutely should elope.
Colette, as always, you delight me with these little vignettes. :) Thanks for sharing them. Love their conversation in bed, their maple syrup kisses, and their concern for making sure their communication (now!) is as clear as possible. Thanks again.
Author's Response: Glad you enjoyed, nej. These are all about going to the happy place, I make no apologies. If you went up in smoke, my job is done...but please rematerialize soon! We need you. Thanks, as always!

Aw, an elopement. How about a compromise for those of us who wanted a big wedding? How about a destination wedding. Because really, Jim Halpert all in white and shoeless on a beach is pure heaven. Great chapter!!!
Author's Response: The beach scenario sounds good to me...I think Paper Jam may already be on that though. Anyway, thanks for reviewing and sharing the 'aaawwww'.

Yummy! What's better than hours and hours of sex and love and steamy innuendo and the thought of those two crazy kids finally, ecstatically happy? Nothing! And I loved this:
‘Well, for one thing, I’ve never slept with a married woman before, so that’ll be kind of exciting.’ It tickled me because not only can I picture Jim saying it, it's exactly the sort of thing my hubby would say. As usual, this totally kicked ass! Thanks, Colette.
Author's Response: As usual, Par5, thanks for being such an avid reader and reviewer. And once again, you zoomed in on one of the lines I had lying around that I was dying to use somewhere. And of course, thanks for joining me in this trip down fluffer lane...you know it's only a matter of time before I make a U-turn back to Angst-ville. Meanwhile, I'm enjoying wallowing in a little ecstastic happiness, deep in the land of If Only.

Yay! Elopement! Lovely piece, with lots and lots of dead-on dialogue. And just the right amount of steam!
Author's Response: Thanks, Paper Jam. It's actually an accumulation of bits of dialogue I had, reworked to be cohesive - so glad to hear it worked. And glad you enjoyed!

Ah, Colette. I will think of this now whenever I see that painful, painful scene in season one's "Basketball."
Author's Response: Glad to be of service, Elizabeth Lynn. Couldn't leave you in pain! Thanks for reviewing!

Oh, these were delicious. So glad to be getting more vignettes from you!
Author's Response: Thanks, Semby! I seem to accumulate these scenes...glad you enjoy them!

That was about sheer physicality and movement and raw competitiveness
Oh, yeah! The boy is breathtaking to watch. Like many lanky men, when he hits that long stride you can see that power unleashed, see that body doing what it was meant to do: cover long distances, jump higher, reach farther. Walking around in a suit all day just does not give that lovely long form the scope it needs.
I love Pam openly appreciating that physicality about Jim, and (ahem) acknowledging it on the way home in the car. I don't think I could keep my hands off a sweaty Jim, either.
‘God, I love you.’
‘I love you more.’
‘You are so fucking competitive.’
Brilliant Jam dialogue. Dead-on and funny and reminding us that Pam, too, has her competitive side.
And the line about getting him home into a bath? Echoing "Basketball"? You witch. :D I hope Pam scrubbed him really, really well.
Thanks for reminding me of one of the best Office eps EVER.
Author's Response:
So glad to hear that I'm not the only one whose practically fetish-ized that boy playing b-ball. And fear not, it was a very 'thorough' bath. (And I know my hands would know no shame.)
Glad this struck your fancy...I so needed a break from torturing them. Thanks much for sharing my silliness!
Date: December 29, 2006 12:09 pm Title: Birthday Cake
I love how you encapsulate Jim's rotten day into one paragraph; excellent detail. Totally believable. I'd throw myself under a train.
The evil twin prank is so good I want to kiss it. I want to see this!
Pam cut him a ridiculously large piece. He responded by taking a ridiculously huge bite. He was ridiculously in love.
Awwwwwwwwww. How wonderful. CookingPam!
Pam had somehow managed to bake this elusive gift right into a chocolate cake.
Awwwwwwww pt. 2.
Not a bad birthday.
Ah. An echo of the ending of one of my favorite episodes, "Diversity Day".
Colette, this was so sweet and fun and Jammy! Thank you. I needed this after all that angst.
Author's Response: Glad to provide a PSA for Jamminess, nej. And also glad you picked up the 'Diversity Day' call out...wondered if anyone would catch that. Thanks for stopping by for a piece of cake - always a pleasure!

Oh wow, this was so much fun...and so hot. (Though I must tell you - if you weren't already a self-confessed JK Hussy, this little number would've totally outed you; you describe the lust she feels while watching him play basketball just a little too well here....;o) )
I love this little glimpse into their lives - they're so in character here, and I could totally envision them relating this way as a couple.
Oh, and I loved the call back to "Basketball" with the bath reference - way to take a painful moment and make it good!
Just superb, as always....
Author's Response:
You know me too well. I admit it, Pam wasn't the only one undone by watching him play basketball. Had to get it out of my system. And he deserves a good bath, damn it!
I'm glad you thought they were in character...when I do a heavy dialogue thing, I always worry about that. Thanks again - love to get your reviews!

‘Good. Let’s get you home and into a bath.’
I love how you've used this line but now in a scenario in which Jim gets to experience the ecstasy and not the agony of the past. I loved this line too "You can resume your regularly scheduled program of manhandling and talking dirty to me then". I love the playful repartee between them. Feels so real and sexy in a fun way! Thanks for finally posting these! I'll await more breathlessly.
Author's Response: Have to admit, the 'You can resume...' line is my favorite too (figures you would pick that out.) More to come - I think the next one might be the really M one in my pile of unused scenes...you think? Thanks, as always, for being such a great partner in crime!
Date: December 29, 2006 11:14 am Title: Birthday Cake
I loved this little 'slice of life' involving a slice of cake. *insert groan here* So great how Pam took the time to call his mom and make his favorite cake and how he appreciates it and how Pam can just make all his stress disappear. Awesome. But the most original part? Is your prank idea! Convincing Dwight that Michael has been replaced by his evil twin? Sheer brilliance! Let's get on that! After the birthday party, of course...
Author's Response: Yes, let's do it - I'll have my people call Greg Daniels' people and set up a meeting. Now if only they could have their cake and eat it too on the show (insert another groan here.) Oh well, birthdays should be frivolous...and this certainly was. Thanks for joining me at the party!
