Excellent chapter.  I loved the way you dealt with the conversation between Karen and Pam.  I felt it was very realistic.  Keep up the good work!

I really like the back & forth between Jim's interview and then flashing back to what happens off-camera. That sets up a nice cause-effect thing.

This is really good. It's nice to see the backstory to their Memorial Day date/Kevin Smith marathon. As a big KSmith fan (especially a fan of Mallrats - my husband and I visited the mall in Minneapolis where it was filmed like complete geeks) I can agree with that choice wholeheartedly.

I liked Jim's explanation to Karen that he had given  a piece of himself to Pam and thus could not give all of himself to Karen. And I liked that she understood, even though she was still gonna bash him to her friends. That felt really realistic to me.

Looking forward to more!

Author's Response:

Haha!  Thanks for the comment.  Yeah, my whole house (hubby plus four other roommates) loves KS, so it was very natural for me to choose that.  As I was writing, I wanted him to bring something... quirky.  Something that would not be all gushy romantic, but that they would both still like... so Kevin Smith marathon it was!

As far as Jim's explanation to Karen, that actually stemmed from a few conversations over at the nbc boards, about whether or not Karen was really "bad."  I decided that for this fanfic, she is wounded and bitter, but not completely evil.  She is vindictive, and a little bitchy, but with reason.  And Jim wasn't a complete moron when he started dating her... she WAS fun for a while... but she's not Pam.  And that's really all there is to it.

Thanks for the comments!  I hope you keep reading my stories... :)
