Ooh, I was nearly cursing Pam for giving up on reading the card just because it was the right thing to do, but then I was so proud of her for getting up the nerve to write her own! So brave. And I bet when Jim reads that card, he'll be very happy to share his with her anyway.

Author's Response: Semby, sorry for taking so long to respond, sometimes once I post and I get into the next chapter I dont' visit the site as frequently.  I apologize - responding to reviews in important to me.  Anyway, thanks for the lovely review and I appreciate what you're saying about Pam and the card.  I was worried people would be throwing trash, but I liked the idea of her waiting...so I'm glad you're willing to go with me on it.  And yes, I love brave Pam!  I'm sure that Jim would love to receive this card, which is why it makes me so happy to write this particular fic.  Thanks again for following with me.

Oh my goodness...I have been waiting, wishing, hoping for more of this story, and you delivered with a more wonderful chapter than I could have ever imagined! Truly fantastic job with this chapter. I really liked the twist of Pam not reading Jim's card. That felt more honest somehow. And I loved the card she made...it made me smile to think of all the little inside jokes. :)

And her letter to him...just wow. Incredibly in character. I feel like if Pam had ever gotten the guts in Season 2, that's what she would have said. Perfection!

I can't wait for the conclusion! You've written this so well, I'm excited to see what you come up with in the end!

Author's Response:

Hey PBS, I'm glad you're still reading and I'm sorry it took forever for me to update.  I was really unhappy with this chapter for a long time, and this is the third version, so I'm glad you liked it.  I really was worried people would be mad that she didn't open the card, but I didn't see that as the right road for her.  and the letter?  Oh my, I was nervous and excited writing it?  I wonder if I need more of a life?  :-)

Thanks again for reading and I'm thrilled that you like it!

WOW! I remember loving this story when I first started reading it and now I remember why. You are a fantastic writer! You're really descriptive but not enough to drag on and I can see every bit of this happening! You seem to have their feelings and thoughts down. It's so in-character! This is my new favourite story.

Author's Response: Thank you so much!  I'm really flattered that you like my style.  I always worry that I am being so detailed, but I see each detail in my head and feel like I should tell you all about it.  I'm happy it works for you.  I try really hard to write these characters as they are, not how I wish they were, so thank you for you compliments regarding characterization.  That's the hardest part for me and I'm really happy if they seem right to you.  Thank you so very much.  You've truly made my night.

Awww that's so sweet that she wrote him a card!

Author's Response: Thanks for all the great reviews, that's really nice that you reviewed each chapter!!  I'm glad you are enjoying this fic, and great penname you have there.

Aww the Christmas episode, great start. I always wondered if Pam saw the card and if she was curious (like the rest of us lol) to see what was in it. Looking forward to the next chapter. =)

Yay! I was seriously thinking about this story just yesterday - so glad to see an update.

"She would have stop by the bookstore for a “how to flirt with your best friend that you may love” book."
Love this line!

Author's Response: I liked that line too, I'm glad it worked well in the story.  I've felt that way before, like could someone please tell me how to do this???  Thanks for sticking with me, and thanks for your review as always.  I really appreciate your kind words.

I know this will sound odd, but this line right here:

She cringed at the thought of that old pathetic wedding planner, full of nervous doodles of hearts and question marks.

Just totally killed me! I can picture it so clearly in my mind, and it seems perfectly consistent with Pam's character. Excellent.

(Also, I'm pretty sure that Floam contains the same mysterious substance that fell to Earth, presumably from outer space, and from which was created Happy Fun Ball. :P)

But seriously... this was a beautiful chapter! I don't even care that it's the end of January--you can write Christmas-themed fics all year long as far as I'm concerned. :)

I ADORE the scene where Pam makes Jim a card. Such an original premise! And her text is just perfect as well. I think it says a lot about your skills as a writer that my own heart was pounding as I read what she wrote, as if I was feeling her anxiety. :)

Excellent, excellent work! I look forward to the conclusion of this great story!

Author's Response: Mose, thanks for all your support and encouragement.  I think you are very talented yourself and so it means so much that you enjoy my work from time to time.  Could I write Christmas fics all year?  Well I still have this and the ping pong fic to finish up, but then I'm thinking on to Diwali...

I'm so happy you updated!!  I'm so proud of Pam for taking the leap.

I'm really enjoying wallowing in the nervous tension and how they are trying to tell the other person "I love you" via mind-meld or something and the deliciousness of it all (since we know it is certainly NOT one-sided).

Author's Response: Lisa, you know I love this part, i love the tension and althought I didn't mean to torture people, so I'm glad it came out well.  I'm glad you're still reading and liking it.  I'm totally proud of pam too and I think you'll be proud of Jim next chapter.

I think I appreciated this update even more after the Christmas chaos.  Nice job.  Update soon?

Author's Response:

I plan too.  If my boss will cooperate with me that is?  Um, boss, I have fanfic to write, can this project wait?  :-)

I'm glad you're still enjoying this Nan!!!  Thank you so much.

I was so happy to see this updated! And the wait was worth it, this 3rd chapter was excellent. The card and her drawing of her own "teapot" and all the memories and mementos of her and Jim's relationship was great. Can't wait for the next chapter!

Author's Response: Thank you Jordan!  I really struggled with it, but it all came together yesterday.  I'm glad you are still reading and I really apprecaite all your wonderful support!!!

I actually gasped out loud, I was so excited, when I saw that this was updated.  It was quite serendipitous, actually, seeing as how I just re-read the first two chapters yesterday.

I love that you've made Pam write Jim a card!  I wasn't really expecting it, and what Pam wrote was just so sweet.  I can't wait to see the next chapter!  Please don't make us wait so long this time around! ;)

Author's Response: VM, I had such a hard time with this chapter.  Oddly enough I felt like I was feeling Pam's anxiety and so I would get her close to his card and then feel like maybe she should just read it, but no, but yes....there were definitely deleted scenes on this chapter.  I'm really thrilled that you're enjoying it VM, I'm really enjoying writing it.  Hope to be updating really soon this time. :-)

Oh, please update this lovely take on Christmas Party...it's the warm fuzzy we need in these desperate, WGA-striking times!

Author's Response: I'm really sorry it took me so long, I hate leaving you all hanging.  If it makes any difference, everyday I was thinking about my readers and trying to work out my issues with chapter 3.  I'm very happy you are enjoying this fic and I'm glad if I can help people get through this terrible strike!  Urgh, it's killing me too.

How wonderful!  I truly think if this were real life, Pam would have woken up to her feelings for Jim (and her lack of feelings for Roy) way, way earlier than she did.  This is just the sort of thing I could see happening.

Author's Response: I agree, I mean how could you not?  I always try to imagine what it would be like if my husband worked with me and we were "friends" - how would it feel, how would I proceed?  But I really struggled with Chap 2 and I'm so happy that it seemed right to you.  Thanks again Kev!  I hope things are going well with you!

Wow.  This part "He felt a little nauseated; how could she take so much from him and not accept his affection. He hated these moments, the ones where he realized how much of his own energy he invests in her, when she so easily leaves him at the office to go home to her fiancé." is so heartbreaking and so true.

I really like how you've written the part of her realizing the card was gone, and figuring out what must have happened.  If I'd been writing this, I think I would have found that to be one of those things which are hard to get across, but you did it beautifully.

Author's Response:

Kev,

I hope you've been doing well, it's been a while!   I'm sorry it's taken me so long to respond, but I really was having such a hard time writing that I was staying away a little.  The MTT equivolent of taking a breath I guess.  I'm so happy that you enjoyed this, and your compliments mean a lot to me.  I value you opinion very much.  So, again, thank you.

Wonderful chapter! I love this paragraph:
"She looked up to meet his eyes, her gaze very honest and open, so much so that he forgot to breathe. He could tell from his desk that something was wrong, but up close, he knew that not only was something very wrong, somehow it did have to do with him."

Author's Response: Thank you!  I like the idea that they both know so much about each other, even without speaking.  Most of their friendship and relationship seems unspoken.  I'm glad you like it, and thanks for the terrific review.

Ooh, loving this! Love Pam's conversation with Jim, how they can talk like understanding friends even with all the other emotions going on under the surface. And I love Dwight's intervention and Pam's determination to find the card! I look forward to seeing her plan :)

Author's Response: Well I have a soft spot for Dwight therefore he often finds his way in my stories, usually to help Pam because we all know he likes her, deep down.  And I've always wanted Jim and Pam to actually have a more open friendship, where they really do talk about everything.  so, I write it that way; I'm really glad you liked it.  Thanks for the wonderful review.

The awesome levels on this story are seriously through the roof.  And thank you for not giving into huge declarations as soon as Roy is out of the questions.  In case you didn't know, the awesome level just went even higher because of it.

Author's Response:

did I miss this review?  apparently.  So sorry!  Thank you for reviewing me VM, and I'm glad this is awesome.  Yeah, I was torn about it, I mean we all want them to declare their love, but in reality no way that just do it.  So as much as I wanted to rush I had to take it slow and I'm really glad that rang true to you.

Thanks again.

Oh S2 - if only you'd turned out this way...

I love it.   'Course you know that.  :)  I love that you have her questioning Dwight about the card and I can't wait to see the plan.

Write more.  Soon.  And maybe by then I finally'll be able to. :(

Author's Response: Well you know that I love that you love it.  And it would have been in the trash if you hadn't talked me off the ledge.  So as usual my profound thanks to you.  And you'll write again, and I know that when you do, it's gonna be awesome.

Oh wow... this story right here is what I wanted for a Christmas episode this year. This makes up for this interminable writer's strike. This is absolutely perfect.

I love that it was the card--or, rather, the possibility of what the card says--that impelled Pam into action. And I think it's quite telling that she refers to her mom's house as "home," and going back to face Roy as simply going back to "Scranton." It's like she realized that her emotional center wasn't--and hadn't been--with Roy for a long time. Very subtle, but very powerful.

And I loved that Jim didn't shy away from talking about things with her. So much of the headaches of S2 was the utter lack of both characters to actually TALK about things. (Of course, that was also the problem with S3. :P)

Anyway, this chapter was fantastic from start to finish. It was a delicious treat to savor, and I can't wait for the next chapter!

Author's Response:

If I can ease any of the pain of the strike I am happy to do so Mose.  I am  bummed at the idea of no Office Christmas eps this year.  :-(  Oh well, maybe they'll still air it in the spring, fingers crossed.  I'm really happy that you enjoyed this chapter - I struggled with it and it was hard to write.  Truly my betas kept me sane.  Hopefully the rest will be easier.

And yes I always have wanted Pam and Jim to actually have a relationship where they could talk.  I'm still not sure they have that on the show, but I have hope.  :-)
