"She lifts her chin slightly, then gives him a wink that for some inexplicable reason distinctly reminds him of the way she'd gasped his name not two hours ago, her nails scraping his back, breath hot in his ear." Niiiice. ;)

And this is lovely: "This is who we are now...."

Yay!  How nice, and I love the last line, too.

What a great way to describe how Kevin talks -- "enunciating each word as if his life depends on it"!

I enjoyed the double meaning of Jim and Pam's exchange toward the end, Jim's observation about Ryan, and Jim throwing Kelly at Ryan in retaliation.  Pretty funny.

As for the last line, yes, I think Pam is coming.  The question is if it will be in the next chapter or if you're going to make the readers (and Jim and Pam) wait beyond that. ;)

I love this: "sort of amazed that everything he's spent the past three years dreaming about is apparently his life now."

I think they would have gone for it.  If I had been Pam, I would have gone for it. ;)

I think the burning oil was a sign that dinner should happen later and they can fill their time in other ways right now.  But your way is fine, too. ;)

Nice chapter. :)

I love how neatly the events of Casino Night overlaid the events as presented in this universe.  I could see the shadow of things as they were and yet it wasn't haunting the things as they are.  Not sure how to explain it.  Wonderful though.

Author's Response:

I'm glad you enjoyed that; it was one of the things I'd planned from the very beginning.  And lord, your review was worded so beautifully -- "shadow of things as they were and yet it wasn't haunting the things as they are."  Gorgeous.  :o)

Thanks for reviewing!

Killer revamp of the PLoD. I am quoting this whole paragraph because it's so breathtaking. Good on you!!

"Would you really?" It's a whisper, maybe because on some level he's afraid that if he speaks too loudly, all of this will shatter around him, and he'll be back to staring at her beneath a flourescent glow that seems to exacerbate the sensation that every day that passes is hollowing out his heart, his psyche, turning him into a shell of the man he used to be -- a man who struggles in vain to reconcile himself with the fact that the woman he's in love with is marrying someone else.

GUH.

Author's Response:

Ah, thank you so much!  Seriously -- glad you liked the re-vamp; it's something I had in mind right from the start.  :o)

Thanks so much for reviewing!

When I had first started this story (back when you first started it) I had had no idea it was going to light upon the episodes.  That's very cool. :)

Author's Response:

You know, I really didn't either, but then I got fascinated by the notion of exploring the longterm ramifications of how the other episodes could've been affected had Jim confessed sooner.  It was a lot of fun weaving in canon moments, but in a different form.

Thanks for reviewing!

All right!  I'm going to go to bed with the promise of some giving in to impulses in the next chapter.

I like how you're getting things in there like Michael's Birthday.  I'm sure the timeline took some planning.

I'll finish tomorrow, I think. :)

Author's Response:

Yes, there was definitely some giving in to impulses in the chapters ahead.... :o)

Thanks for reviewing!

You made me feel sorry for Roy. ;)

Author's Response: Listen, I really do have a big soft spot for Roy (damn you, David Denman!!).  :o)

Oh, yay!  How nice!  I love that she's going through a lot of emotion here; you've made it so clear how difficult things are.  I love also that Jim's giving her some space and just being the awesome guy he is.

This bit reminded me of part of the Merger's PLoD discussion:

And then he's shocked to hear her say in a flat voice he almost doesn't recognize as hers, "Do whatever you want."

I assume it was meant to evoke Pam's "That's totally cool. You can do whatever you want."  In any case, that's what I thought of, and her voice then was very flat and not Pam-like.

Wonderful chapter.  I really should be getting to bed, so maybe one more chapter, and the rest tomorrow.  It's such a treat to have the whole thing available to read, though! :)

Author's Response:

Glad you found this chapter believable; I was really struggling to convey just how emotionally drained they both would've been at that point -- but I also wanted to clarify that it wouldn't be a Pam-leaves-Roy-and-runs-straight-to-Jim scenario, because I don't think it would've worked that way.

So glad you're enjoying this!  :o)

Yay!  She left Roy!  (Happy dance commences.)

This line: "Yeah, I am listening to you; you're just not making sense!" reminds me of Cocktails "No, I am listening! That's the problem I am listening!"  I don't think you're harsh at all to Roy in this chapter.  Sadly, this is Roy, and you've done a wonderful job letting Pam see him. :)

Author's Response:

Yay -- that's exactly what I was going for with that line (i.e. the callback to Cocktails).  Glad you didn't think I was too rough on Roy; I tend to go much easier on him than I did here.

Thanks, as always, for reviewing!

There's just so much about this that's great!  I admire your ability to tell a story so completely, immersing the reader in what's happening and what the characters are feeling.

It would make me feel inadequate as a writer, except for the fact that a) I never wrote a lick of fiction before about 14 months ago, nor do I recall any actual schooling in it, and b) it's okay for me to be a different kind of writer.  (Right? Right?)

But anyway, it's so...great. :)

Author's Response:

Wow -- thanks for the comment re: my telling a story completely and immersing the reader in details, because at times I feel like that's a weakness of mine -- my inability to just be succinct.  (I am perpetually in awe of writers who offer up brilliant oneshots.)

And please -- there's way more skill (IMHO) in being succinct than there is in telling a long story, trust me.  :o)

Thanks for reviewing!

Ooh, angsty!  Poor Jim and Pam.  And Roy is the most clueless fiance of all the fiances.

You show the progression of this ride and the emotions really well.  And I'm not particularly mad at Pam.  It would have to be a terribly difficult situation, and you're portraying it very well.

Author's Response:

Hah -- your comment about clueless Roy made me snort.  :o) Glad you didn't find Pam too alienating here, as that was one of my bigger concerns.

Thanks for reviewing!

Forgive me for taking so long to review, but I wanted to sit down and reread this one from the beginning, start to finish.  Loved the CN wrap up with the spontaneous proposal, what a brilliant idea!

I'm so glad you found the wherewithal to complete this, G7.  I know you were struggling once the angst/smut was done to get through to the conclusion, but you really did yourself proud.  Reading the entire story through is just a treat.  Thanks so much for another great job!

Author's Response:

Thanks so much for your kind words, EH.  I really did struggle with finishing this one, in a way that caught me off guard, as 1) I usually don't get that bad a case of writer's block in the middle of a project I've already got mapped out and 2) No matter what I did, I couldn't shake it or get motivated again.

So it really meant a lot to read your comments re: my finishing -- thank you so much, my friend!

So good and heartbreaking, their time at work!  And Roy's part in this at the end - wow.

Author's Response:

Yeah, I figured Pam's MO would be the whole, "That didn't happen thing."  And yes, Roy...clueless, clueless Roy.  :o)

Thanks for reviewing!

This is sooo good!  As I was reading through, many lines came to me as being particularly good, or apt, but...I'd have to re-read it to find them. ;)

You're really capturing Pam's thoughts here, I think.  She'd be so stunned.  Jim's thoughts, too, although he got less "play" in this chapter, were really good, and I love everyone's reactions to the situation.

Also, Pam's mom is a good mom. :)

It may take me a while to get through the chapters, but I will. :)

Author's Response:

I'm glad you enjoyed this chapter; I thought it was necessary to show the progression of both their thoughts (but most importantly, Pam's), but I know inner monologue doesn't always make for the most stimulating reading.

Glad you liked Pam's mom as well -- I wish they'd bring her back; I loved her in SH.

Thanks for reviewing!

Wow!  You did an amazing job taking some of the lines from Casino Night and placing them here.  Now that this is finished, I'm trying to finally catch up with it. :)

This chapter is so great! :)

Author's Response:

I can't tell you how much I appreciated your slew of reviews, TLK -- totally made my day(s) as they came in.  :o)

Thanks!

OMG I was shocked when I saw this updated (in the best way possible).  I loved how the story ended it was absolutely perfect take on Casino Night for this fic.

Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful story!

Author's Response:

Yes, I know my updating it was a shock, given how long I let it languish....sigh.  (I really am sorry about that.)

Glad you liked the CN take, as it was the original ending I'd envisioned right from the beginning.

Thanks so much for reviewing!

This is AMAZING, I LOVE it! So much so that i started reading it and couldn't stop and it's now 2.18 in the morning!

I had more to say, some specific points, but it's now 2.19am and words and clear thought elude me. Well done, thanks!!!

Author's Response: Thanks so much -- I'm really glad you enjoyed it!  :o)

Wow!  What a treat to find another chapter of this wonderful story.  Also, to make Casino Night into "Proposal Night" was a stroke of genius!

Thank you!!!!

Author's Response:

Thanks so much; I'm glad you enjoyed it!  The idea of having him burst out with a semi-proposal (instead of his original, "I'm in love with you") was something I had in mind from the very beginning.  :o)

Excellent job, as always, girl7.  A perfect Friday surprise.

Now THIS makes me all kinds of happy:  "He can almost hear the words echoing in his head: My life; my future."  Can we attribute that to Mr. Girl7?  You are one lucky gal : )

Author's Response:

Thanks so much, NanReg; I swear, every time I post a chapter then sit back feeling all nervous about it, you swoop in with a review that makes me feel so relieved.  :o)

(And no, that line isn't a Mr. Girl7 one; only the smartass ones come from him, lol.)

Thanks, as always, for reviewing!

Wow, this is really one of the best stories I've read. I just found this site last week and your story was one that got me hooked. I hope you do post the last chapter...

Your dialogue is really funny, and true to the characters. I laughed out loud several times, and got teary-eyed also (yes, I'm a sap for Jim & Pam).

Author's Response:

Thanks so much, jkfan!  I fully intend to post the last chapter; I've sent it to my beta, who suggested a small change at the end, and as soon as I can get that revision done, I'll post.  Given the length of time I've allowed this thing to languish without updates (something I feel incredibly guilty about), I doubly appreciate your taking the time to review and offer encouragement; it does help to hear that somebody's interested in a final chapter.  :o)

I also appreciate your kind words re: the dialogue; I can't think of a higher compliment than that it's true to the characters -- so thank you!  (And you're in good company on this site; we're ALL saps for Jim & Pam.)  :o)

girl7, not only did you say the final chapter of this wonderful story would be up within a week, but you swore on John Krasinski's forearms! Oh what a betrayal of trust - what did those lovely forearms do to deserve your lies?!

:P (only joking of course, don't rush the creative genius, I do understand the existence of a pesky thing called "real life" that we must all deal with)

Author's Response:

Listen, you are totally within your rights to call me on that, because I inadvertently told a big old lie when I posted the last chapter (and worse yet, disrespected the forearms, gasp!).  :o)  Yeah, between real life and writer's block, this last chapter has been an absolute bear.  It's been done for weeks and weeks, but something about it isn't ringing true for me.  Hopefully it'll be posted within a few days.

Thanks for the gentle nudge, though; it does help to know that someone's actually waiting for it!  ;oD

Author's Response:
