omg, that's so funny! I actually live in Amsterdam! Just let me say that people don't throw bikes in the canals all the time though ;) Really good story, It's really sad, but you've written it very well. I do think you mean he took a ferry FROM Den Helder though. Because Den Helder is on the mainland, but you can take a ferry there to the island Texel. I loved it, you should continue!!
Author's Response: when i was studying abroad (spending 3 weeks in utrecht), we had a couple of trips to amsterdam and managed to see folks dragging the canals. i can't imagine that it happens that often, but i love that tidbit. and thanks for your correction. it's been awhile since i've been there and my geography is super fuzzy...
