This is so sweet. I think it's in character from beginning to end. And I like the little details you chose to emphasize. LIke this:
His hand rests upon her small but growing belly. He has been doing this lately, most of the time without realizing it. She feels protected.
And this:
“I just loved you too much to ignore you all day, so I left you completely,” he finishes, delicately tucking a curl behind her ear.

Wow, that was great! It seemed so realistic, and the dialog/descriptions flowed effortlessly (or at least they seemed to be!) I know that sounds really cheesy, but that was all true. Great job - reading the second chapter, in 3, 2, 1...
