"Because it's scary."
I think this sums up season three Pam interaction with Jim.

And in general, this chapter really I think captures the confliction that they had post Casino Night... I mean, its all been said before, but, it does work, and it really just, its true. Jim is angry, and Pam is comfortable, and its conflict. And then the line like Pam's smiles are only for Jim. Greatness. Really, if those two could read each others thoughts... well, life would have been easier.

And its like, so wonderful how caring Jim is. Like, how he can make Pam see that it is Roy that has the warped self image of her, and not her. Just needing someone to say stuff like that is really all you need sometimes. I mean, I remember one time my friend said I had nice teeth, and I was like, really, my teeth? But, it totally made my day, and years later, I still think of it. And, so yeah, the fact that Jim does it constantly. And its not so much that he is like Pam could like him (because then it would just be the opposite sorta thing), but its more like, Pam deserves to know how great she is because everyone does, and something like that.

And that entire scene with Jim just telling Pam to admit it was great, and, Pam you can and will! You will call it off!

Author's Response: Exactly my point here.  So glad it came across.

I like how Angela interfers even though she doesn't want to. It is very Angela.

""It's simple." His lips graze the top of her head as he whispers almost too low for her to hear. "Choose me.""
So, low sexy voice and choose me.... gah!

Haha, carrying Pam into the house sounds shockingly like what I do when i carry the 22 month old into the house. Its like, pray to god he doesn't wake up as I am unstrapping him from his stroller, I don't jostle him as we walk up the stairs, and try to get his shoes off (and if I feel confident - his diaper), and then get him into the crib.
However, after that is just a giant sigh of relief and a total exhaustion. Nothing at all sexy.

Author's Response:

This was written back when I hoped Jim would just get pissed off enough to not let her get away with it.  Or - what it'd be like if S3 never happened. :)

I am going to place a wee bit of blame/thanks on you and this story. So, it was forever and a day ago (aka winter time I believe), that I read this story at FF.net, I guess. And I left a review. And you sent me an email (I believe this was before I could remember my login information there, and therefore, it was an anonymous review, just with an email address). And you told me about this site. So then I started visiting this site. And then somewhere shortly after it, fanfic went from being something I read occasionally to being a way of life. So, not sure if it is blame (because I used to have a life outside of the office and mtt), or thanks (because really, it is a fun life here).
But, when I rediscovered that email that you sent me, I just had to reread the story again.

It is so interesting to read this story (which I don't know when it was written, but apparently, unless my memory is totally flawed, it was at least before wintery time), and connect it with what has happened since then.

I love the angry Jim confrontation. Going along with what I just said, I can still believe that Pam doesn't connect that she is the common denominator between angry!Jim, and that the reason he gets angry is when she isn't going for it, she isn't taking a chance, she isn't being all she can be (slightly borrowing from the army - i think - with that last one)

With the wedding responses - you and roy perfect together - honestly, what are they going to say - you and roy are horrible together? Yeah, so two of my friends are engaged, and I have things I want to say to them (neither is quite like roy, its mostly - you've been dating 6 months and you are ENGAGED alreadY!!!!!)... but ya know what, there are some things you just keep quiet about. Unless you are Jim. and I don't mean that in a bad way. Its just Jim's reason for protesting was a different one that others would say. Am I making ANY sense at all... because really, I know what I am trying to say in my head, but trying to make it into words is just producing a lot of goobly gook.

Haha! Well, I guess this was written post-Runaway bride. Which is so funny, since it happened in Atlanta, and I am from Atlanta. And so, Atlanta references are fun. That woman was crazy though. An insane time.

Pam's bit of bravery for cancelling the wedding was very brave, but, she needed just a bit longer (okay way to much longer), until she could get up courage for beach games. Or maybe she just needed to wait for a good sweeps period. Haha.

Love that Jim thinks "stop calling her pammy" because of the whole "don't call me pammy"

Wow, yes, this was just great, and I can totally remember how it was great in the past.

Unfortionatly, my battery on my laptop is nearly dead, and so, I can't read this more until later once I get it charged more *sigh* battery life is dying. But, I am going to reread this again, just because I HAVE to.

Author's Response: Wow.  I'm so sorry (or thankful - not sure what you'd prefer. lol!) to have lured you here.  Thank you so much for your kind review and for rereading.  You rock!

This was such an amazing story! I loved that lines between Pam and Jim were repeated throughout the chapter. You also definitively got Pams' spirit/personality down. I love all of your work, by the way, it has such great narration!

Author's Response: Thanks so much Pamalama.  This was one of my favorite stories to write.  I'm so glad you enjoyed it!

Well, dammit.  You have made me cry.  That's just not nice.  And yet, it's...FREAKIN' AWESOME.

Sorry, but that was seriously about the sweetest thing ever.  I love this story.  And I'd say even more great things about it if it weren't almost 1 a.m. and I didn't have to get up for work in 6 hours.

So, yeah: IT ROCKED.  I loved it.

This was great:

"I mean, look at me. I’m so freakishly tall I don’t think anyone else will have me.”

Ha!  Great story, great romance, great banter.  Love it.  Love.

It's so cute that she's making him wait.  Aww!  Poor Jim.  And, for that matter, poor Pam, because how could anyone resist Jim?  He's immeasurably cute!

Big, giant SIGH OF HAPPINESS for this chapter.  I love this:

“I can’t believe how easy it is to cross state lines. Without a passport even. Who knew I could actually drive my car out of Pennsylvania?”

Ha!  Their dialogue is so great.  Very believable.

Pam's internal dialogue is consistently great in this story.  While she's saying one thing, she's thinking another, and that is so like her.  It's also a pretty typical thing for us women to do, so I can totally relate.

Oooooh.  I love this chapter.  Love.  So many quotable lines that I think I have to quote some of them:

"I beg to differ. I'm scrappy. I can give you a run for your money."

Ha!  Go Pam, you scrappy thing, you!

"Excuse me." He leans close and whispers in her ear. "I need to ask you a question. Are you playing footsie with me?"

That is SO Jim.  And hilarious, too!

"Tough. You said you wanted slow. That's what you're getting."

Ohhhh, he's so mean!  And yet, to be fair, that is what she wanted.  Bet she had no idea how much she'd live to regret those words.

Well, I'm still sad, but at least Roy finally got the picture.  Now on with the happy ending!  In...a few more chapters.  Sigh.  How can I wait that long???  ;)

Oh, weep!  I'm inconsolable!  Well, okay, Jim being a purple belt at Parcheesi kind of helps.  A little.  But I want a happy ending, so I'm gonna keep reading until I get one!

You did a great job of making the conversation realistic.  Even if Roy is a thoughtless jerk, it's still going to be hard for Pam, because you don't spend 10 years with someone and not care about him.  It was heart-wrenching to read, and I could imagine just what Pam was thinking: without Jim right in front of her, reminding her that he's the only one for her, it's easy to worry more about hurting Roy than about hurting herself.

Well, enough psychoanalysis, huh?  Another great chapter.

Again, great chapter.  I love Pam's internal dialogue here:

Stop running Pam. Aren't you tired? What would it be like if you just gave in? You could still get married, it just won't happen in three weeks. You could be happy. He'll make you happy. He'll take care of you. He'll make you laugh. You already know that. Be honest. FOR ONCE. You already know…

It's perfect.

God, I wish Jim had done this on the show.  I wish he'd insisted Pam be honest with him--and with herself.  But I guess I'll just have to be patient...and read fic whenever my patience wanes.  :)

On a nitpicky, technical note, you might want to pay a bit more attention to your punctuation around dialogue.  When you're attributing dialogue, you don't need a new sentence with a capital letter.

Like, for instance, here: "You really don't know do you?" He says softly.

That should be like this: "You really don't know do you?" he says softly.

Because "he says softly" isn't a sentence on its own.  It's there to explain what's in the quotes.

Well, anyway, you probably know all of that, but your stories are so good that I want them to read as smoothly as possible.  :)

Author's Response:

You know what?   This was written back in the day when I was writing only for me.  So this story (and anything before it) was completely unbeta'd.

Truthfully - I did not even notice I was doing that.   I am so very glad you brought it up - because just as you want them to read smoothly - I want my stories to be written smoothly and I've certainly been remiss in that particular regard.

So thank you SO MUCH!

OMFG, I am dead.  Killed.  This?  Is freakin' awesome:

"It's simple." His lips graze the top of her head as he whispers almost too low for her to hear. "Choose me."

Author's Response:

I so wish that's what happened.

I was so optimistic in those days.  SIGH.

I'm so glad you linked this story, because it's wonderful.  I'm so happy I have something awesome to read!

This was perfect (LOVE Jim being forceful):

"I'm not going to back off. I'm done with that. Sorry if it inconveniences you but I'm not going to just forget that when I kissed you - you kissed me back."

Author's Response: Awww.  I love that you're reading this now.  I wasn't even going to link it's so obsolete.  Glad you're liking it!

I read this whole story in one sitting...and my heart is just pounding with giddyness.  That was pure, unadulterated, wonderful JAMMINESS at its best...and I loved every word of it.  Sigh.

Simply wonderful.  And I'm SOOO in love with Jim now.

Author's Response:

In love w/Jim?  You too?  Well - get in line, honey. ;)  Thanks so much for the review.  I hold this story near and dear to my heart.  There are so many bits that I love - especially when Pam goes to the airport and their first date.  If only they realized how it could be. :(

Thanks again?

LOVED this story!!! My roommate recently recommended this website and I've been reading a couple of your stories the last few days. You are great! You've got such a knack for Jim and Pam's voices. Keep up the good work!

Author's Response: Hi Brandy!!  I'm so glad you liked it.  It's probably my favorite of the one's I've written - if a bit unrealistic based on what we've seen really happened. ;) Thanks so much!

Yes! One of my favorite fics ever- I just reread the entire thing, and loved it all over it again. It's both realistic (everything up through Pam needing to wait) and sweetly adorable (pretty much everything after that). The proposal and matching pregnancy surprise are so original and cute. Love, love, love!

Author's Response: I'm glad you liked it. It has a soft place in my heart too. I think it's my favorite thus far.
