Well played, my dear! I have to tell you, I thought this chapter would be fight and there would be angst and then maybe some making up further along down the road. I'm glad you didn't prolong it. Also, this fight felt very real. There have been many versions of this confrontation but your pacing was great, it wasn't too melodramatic, and the moment when they stood there and you could hear the hum of the flourescent lights? Brilliant touch. Just the kind of silent moment that happens in a real fight and would happen between these two. And now, onto the "good" stuff! Lovely job.

Author's Response:

Yeah.  No.  I'm all about instant gratification.  TWSS.

I think they will fight - but I feel they would never toss insults at each other.  Misunderstand and misinterpret words or actions - TOTALLY.  And I didn't want Pam to cry.  I've made her cry alot in other fics but recently I've realized it's most likely the last thing she'd do.  More often than not -she'd totally shut down.  I didn't want her throwing herself in his arms and having him comfort her.  I wanted them to talk it out and end up on the same page - with a teensy bit of humor tossed in.

I'm so glad you thought I succeeded!!  (and my reply to your review is almost as long as the chapter I think.  Sheesh!!!)

I really appreciate how you cleared up Pam's misconceptions so quickly - and got them to fess up to each other without draaaaawing it out. Which is exactly what, in one way or another, I have the sinking feeling they're going to do on the show. Wouldn't it be so refreshingly non-sitcom-ish if they just got them together and explored the comic/romantic potential there, instead of the tired TV love triangle scenario? No matter how originally they interpret it (and these are great writers, so they'll probably surprise me), I still wish they'd just...not.

Anyway - am really enjoying your story. Love when Jim is semi-teasing her and says 'To your fancy new apt.?' Very Jim (and that's a good thing.)  I love your writing style - clean and to the point, but so emotionally evocative. I could so feel Pam here...and, I agree, I'm feeling very Go-Pam! these days too.

Author's Response:

In my world she lasted 3 weeks of keeping her mouth shut.  Torturous on screen - easy peasy when it's within a few paragraphs.

I can't tell you how un-anxious I am to see a love triangle.  It'll be Jim/Pam/Roy redux and a complete yawnfest IMHO.

I was striving for clean - based on the writing discussion (re: Stephen King).  I'm bad like that.  I'm always consulting a thesaurus when sometimes I should just sit back and let it happen.  So here was my attempt.

The thing I love about your reviews is that you are always so specific - and that is MUCH appreciated.

So glad I waited for Ch 2 before I jumped in to read Ch 1!  I think the angst would have killed me ~~ nice balance between Angry!Pam and Pam-staking-her-claim ~~ I hope we see some of this range of emotions on the show.

Author's Response:

It does make you feel better to read them in one sitting.  And about the show?  Me too lisahoo.  Me too.

AHGHG Major squeeage!!! This was brilliant. Totally in-character. Totally brilliant! I loved it! Several lines jumped out at me... "It's ridiculous that the thought that fills her mind at this moment is that she wishes she could jinx him and shut him up." It was ridiculous... but it's our Pam! This was brilliant! Thanks for the speedy update! ;)

Author's Response:

Score.  Major squeeage!!  LOL!  Thanks jandj

There's an air of ridiculousness about this whole thing and I'm glad you think I did it justice.

Amazing - you really have offered such a real glimpse here into what Pam must have been thinking - and what it'll be like if/when things play out like this on the show.  This is really terrific.  And this: She could see what the rest of her life could be staring back at her and it scared her almost to death.  She remembers the look on his face as he slipped his hands from hers.   Till the very last second she could imagine herself holding on instead of letting go.

Just haunting.

Author's Response:

As I mentioned - I am all about Pam lately.  Until I see them in a room together I fear that's how it'll be.  We know what Jim's feeling - pretty much.  Pam continues to be a mystery.

Onto the first fight...and the first making up.  'Cause you WELL know - that's the fun part. :)

Author's Response: And THANK YOU for your sweet words.  I'm glad you liked that part.  It was one of my favorites. :)

I swear, with all the recent updates I keep losing track, but I wanted to make sure I read this one! You're continuing this, right? RIGHT?? I really enjoyed this, especially Pam's transition from the nervousness of seeing Jim the first time to anger and resentment, and finally realization that she needs to let herself feel the way she does about him. Really, all I want is for them to see each other and for everything to magically be back the way it was but I know it's not going to be like that-and that makes reading (and watching!) half the fun. Sorry, rambling again, but just know that this was wonderful!!

Author's Response:

Yes indeed I will continue.  It's a series. :) I think that's exactly what would go through her head just as I think there is no moving forward for the two of them without really having it out.

So.  I'm gonna make them. :)

Thanks pennylane.  And please.  Ramble anytime. :)

You have no idea how excited I am for this fight! I don't know why I love angry Jim so much, but god, do I ever. I just picture the look on his face when he says, "Do you want to be a receptionist here, always?" and I'm gone.

If this chapter is any indication, this fight will be glorious - and the making up will be equally as wonderful. Don't leave us waiting for too long!

Author's Response:

I'm gone right there with you.  I started it yesterday and right now it's just dialogue but I can see his face the whole time.

KILLING ME.

I suspect you won't be waiting very long.  I just need you to be a teensy bit patient!   Thanks proposals!

Merci beaucoup, Gen!

AHGHGH.. a heart breaker!  I especially loved this part:

This is what she’d been so afraid of all along - afraid that once she changed her life he would change his mind.

I think you hit the head on the nail. (wait a minute... scrath that, reverse it!)

 Great Job!

Author's Response:

I have this need lately to explain what Pam's problem is.  Don't know where it's coming from - but it's here and it's not letting me go.

I think the next few chapters will begin to mend your poor heart.   Perhaps. ;)

This is painful in the best possible way.  So full of hope and regret - the last line just kills me.  Are you going to continue this?  Please do!

Author's Response: Continue I shall.  Thank Muppet.  You got out of it exactly what I hoped.  I love it when that happens!!!

"She sees Karen sitting beside Jim and resists the sudden urge to storm over and pull her out of the chair by her hair" - I totally loved this line, and I'm so afraid that when the merger episode airs, I will want to do that, too!!

Author's Response:

I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that she'd want to do it - and that there won't be a lot of us cheering her on.   I just hope it'll turn out that she (and we!) won't have too much cause for worry you know???

SIGH. We shall see...

Wait and see. ;)

absolutely wonderful - I can't wait for the next part!  My favourite part though:  She sees Karen sitting beside Jim and resists the sudden urge to storm over and pull her out of the chair by her hair. That's our girl!  :-)

Author's Response: Well - gotta tell you.  That's really me.  Me being irrational because I don't hate Karen in the least.  I just want Pam to take action.  LOL!    Thanks Moxie

This was beautiful.  And sad.  So well done.  I really felt all of the emotions she was going through.  Great job.

Author's Response: Awww.  Thanks bitterpill.  Hopefully the next few chapters alleviate the sadness a tad. :)

As much as I've often wanted to throttle Pam, I did nothing but ache for her in this one. When they have their awkward hug and he whispers in her ear...heartache on a page.

I also like how you made her in turns angry and feisty too - the image of her wanting to pull Karen out of her chair by her hair was especially great. Pam is all the more empathetic for not being saintly in her suffering.

Okay, ready for more firsts...and seconds...and...never claimed I wasn't greedy!

Author's Response:

This is my thing.  Do I think if you've got Jim Halpert standing before you telling you that he's in love with you that your response should be "I can't?"  Hell no.  But do I sympathsize that Pam probably needed some time to deal with what was going on in her life?  Absolutely.

I don't blame Jim for packing up and shipping out - and I don't blame him for contemplating moving on.  I just wanted to write something where we finally get to see both sides.  I'm very pro-Pam at the moment.  Not sure why.

Anyway - thank you.  More firsts -coming up!!

I'm really looking forward to reading more.  BTW, you nailed Michael (yes, I know...TWSS).  This it too true:  "Leave it to Michael to make things a million times more uncomfortable than they already were."

Author's Response: Ahh Michael.  The stuff about wanting to see Jim and Pam simply hug spawned this little scenario.  And I figured Michael would use what he knows about Jim's feelings for Pam in just this way.    I'm writing as fast as I can!!

Author's Response: By "the stuff" I mean some discussion on TWoP.  Seriously.  That place is a plot bunny goldmine.

You could have had him; she admonishes herself. You were just too scared. Yes! Get over it Pam! Okay, xoxoxo, I'm all in. Let's get the fight over and move onto another first!

Author's Response: Will do Par5.  Fighting gives us Angry!Jim and we all know he's freaking hot.  Trust me.  I'm hurrying. :)

Love how these two thoughts are related.

It was terrifying and empowering all at once to know that she wasn’t stuck anymore, that she was capable of rewriting the end of all this.

This is what she’d been so afraid of all along - afraid that once she changed her life he would change his mind.

Too bad she didn't do it in the right order!

His lips graze her ear and he whispers "Hey, there Beesly."  He holds her for as long as it takes him to breathe in, then out, before he eases away.

Yum.  Chase that feeling, Pam!

Kidding aside, I like your attention to detail in this. Good insights!

Author's Response:

That's me.  Detail girl.  Never ask me what I did in a given day - you'll know what I ate for breakfast.  My favorite uncle always tells me - "Krissy - your life is an open book and you want to read it aloud."

Thanks so much Shan!  I'm glad to hear it's working.

One in a whole story full of gorgeous sentences. This upsets me beyond words because I have a feeling this is exactly what we're going to see. It's so awful (and so beautifully wrought). Really amazing work here.

Author's Response:

Aw Lis - thanks.  I can't get these images out of my mind.  Selfishly - I want company for my misery.

I'm so glad you liked it.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee..... and I just love a good JAM fight!  Yeah, I've got issues!  Update soon!

Author's Response:

If you've got issues - I've got double.  I am dying to see these two have it out.

And then um....make up - of course. ;)
