Oh, how sad for Pam! And only 9 more years of such disappointments are in store for her...

She feels... well, to be honest, she feels trapped. And happy! And old. And overwhelmed. And happy, happy, happy, because of course! He wants to marry her.

Awesome. And this...

...now that she has more realistic expectations than she did at sixteen, he never lets her down.

And great last line.

Author's Response: Thanks!!! Funny how I hardly remember writing these... Just came out somehow!

Nice backstory here. I like your description of the paper on the box - would love to see that!

Congrats on your first Office fic  :)

Author's Response: Thanks :)

I'm really looking forward to more! I enjoy the way you portray Roy - a delicate matter, to be sure - showing both the things he gets right and the things he doesn't. Well done!

Author's Response: Thanks Rose!  And you're right - I think Roy is not a bad guy, he's just with the wrong girl.

Oh wow! Great emotion here. I love that she feels trapped. and then that bit with the smile that is forced and only her mum realizes... SO SO good. ;)

Author's Response: Thanks!  And moms are great and terrible that way, aren't they? ;)

It's what she and her sister call her good hostess face, the isn't-life-wonderful-everything's-fine-why-do-you-ask-and-gosh-I-feel-grand face. With a jolt, Pam realizes that her mother's expression is only a reflection of hers.

Wow. That's a perfect description of that expression- I can see it.  I love how this is going so far. You've imagined something so achingly realistic here and painted it for all of us to share.

Author's Response: Thanks!!! I appreciate that :)

Poor delusional Pam. Always telling herself things seem better than they are! But I like you referring to her mother's attitude to show where it comes from. One thing that needs touching up is the spacing - kinda hard to read this way.

Author's Response: Thanks, Par, and thanks for the tip! I think I fixed it - didn't realize that's what was happening :)

Oh Roy, what a big dumb oaf! I love how she had "bonus gifts" even though he doesn't deserve them...

Really sad... but really well written. I wish I knew what was in the box... and I love how she was trying to explain the 'bonus' gift idea... Anyway... can't wait for another installment! ;)

Author's Response: I'm so glad you caught that - I had to go back to the episode to remember exactly what he said... Thanks for the review :)

Very nice first fanfic!!  You have Roy down pat - sounded and acted just like him.  Poor Pam, Roy is starting to disappoint her so early in their relationship.  (But at least she'll appreciate Jim that much more when he lands on the scene!)

Author's Response: Thanks, Kay!  Is it sad that I drew on personal experience for Roy? Maybe not, since I married my Jim ;)

Oh, Pam. Settling so early. Excellent beginning!

Author's Response: Thanks!  And I think when you set up a pattern that early, it becomes easier and easier to ignore.
