I like Kelly taking on this poor servant girl as a project - makes her a likable character and it's a good twist on her canon emphasis on making over Pam. Still very suspicious of what Ryan and she are up to. (Although I feel like you're dropping hints that he's worried about what Jan might be doing with HIS inheritance.)

This was not where I expected to see the Beach Games speech come in! Although obviously in this AU this seems like a far more appropriate way for Pam to communicate some with Jim. (Really, though, again - an Austen novel AU just fits so well with their canonical communication issues.)

Hmmmm. Grace note at the end or not, I'm still not sold on new Jim. I don't quite know what to make of this Karen yet... she's snobby for sure, but I'm waiting to see some sign of how she really feels about Jim (and if she knows about Pam).

Author's Response: Thank you! Perhaps, that is what I like in Austen novels the most — people couldn't say directly what they want or what they think about but used some kind of code language for communication. Not that effective as a direct speech, but so much elegant...

Just binged this whole story and have to say I love it so much. It is exceptionally written, all the longing and quiet (and sometimes not as quiet) angst as a proper Regency story. You’ve given all the characters roles that suit them so well, and I have enjoyed so much seeing how each of them slot in. I can’t wait to read more!

Author's Response:

Thank you so much for your review! It means a lot to me and I'm glad you like this story.

The next chapter is here :)

This is so perfectly Austen! There’s nothing hugely dramatic happening and yet SO MUCH is happening. It’s exactly the way Austen was, it’s all about the little glances and interactions between characters. I just watched the newest version of “Emma,” and I’m very deep in my Austen feels right now!
I felt for Pam here, being put into such an awkward position, she handled it so well considering. And Jim at the end - maybe, just maybe his heart hasn’t hardened towards her as much as she thinks...
Another really wonderful chapter!

Author's Response:

Thank you so much, Jenna! I like this subtle way of communication between Austen's characters too; hell, every time I remember how Darcy looked at Elizabeth I... oh, it's just me or it became hotter in the room?..

I know I could never be like Miss Jane, but I'm so happy that you like this story!

Ryan is seriously skeeving me out. If that's your intention, you are doing good!

I look forward to seeing where this goes next.

Author's Response: Thank you! Yeah, I made Ryan a bad guy here and I'm glad it worked out.

Interesting scene to be sure. Lots of quotes and moments from the show mixed in nicely as well. Jim avoiding Pam for most of the evening seemed to fit well within the scheme of what we saw in Season 3. However I did catch those re-purposed lines from Pam's beach speech.

However to end it there, with Jim offering her a glass of wine seems very interesting. Looking forward to seeing how this goes from here.

Author's Response: Thank you for your review! It gives me a great pleasure to mix episodes from the show with the regency setting and I'm happy when it fits well :)
