You did a wonderful job here capturing the place I hope dream am sure they are at right now.  This story has a quiet. lovely way about it and you're painting such a vivid picture with your words.

I'm loving all these "In Brooklyn" stories.  I think we might need to add a new tag to the archive.

Brooklyn seems a lot more fun that Stamford ever was. ;)

Really wonderful thus far.  I cannot wait to see what's next.

This is fantastic.  Angsty - a bit - but in just the right way - in the way that you can see that it's not doubt just confusion as to how to make it all work.  It's difficult - I'm sure - when you spend so much time avoiding yet longing for something (or someone) to feel comfortable once you have it (or them).

Thanks for this.  It's just lovely.

Author's Response: Thank you!! I\'m touched by words like \'fantastic\' and \'lovely,\' especially since I was a little nervous about this chapter. I\'m glad it was realistic and not too melodramatic. Thanks for the review. :)

Awww kells.  You found a way to make S2...S2...even with this little detour.  I'm glad you wrote this.  After my trip to Baltimore I was knocking this idea around myself.  I can't wait to read what's next.

Author's Response:

Hi xoxoxo!  Oh I'm glad that you are enjoying this.  I've actually been meaning to post on the forum or PM you regarding the discussion in the fanfic threads because I totally know how you're feeling.  It's hard to come up with new ideas and situations, while staying true to the characters that we know and love.  That's why I had a hard time getting started with this one, but when you had posted about it in the obsession thread one day it got my brain jogging again.

Anyway, I'm rambling, but my point was simply that I know how you are feeling, and I've been there too.  I appreciate you reading and reviewing - more to come soon :)

kells - I love what you did here and how - I don't know -quiet it is.

Sure it's smutty - but not at all sleazy or crude.  My favorite variety.   Wonderful job.

Author's Response: Thank you so much, xoxoxo.  I'm glad it came across this way to you.  Quiet and...simple - is pretty much what I've been trying to go for, since really, Jim and Pam are kind of like that themselves.  Thank you for the kind words :)

I'm sorry to see this one end.  Still working on a way to write something myself.  It's not coming easily. :(

I keep saying this.  It's like a picture book, or a movie, or like...hanging back and following them around the city at a safe distance.  Except I'd also have to follow them up to Pam's apartment and get arrested for being a peeping Tom.  Ahem.  The point is - I see everything you write play out and it's all so accurate and descriptive - without being overly so.  I love how much care you take of these characters.  I think because I write about them we sometimes feel like they are mine - even though I know the truth.  All I can say is that I completely trust you with them.  :)  So thank you.

PS this review is for Ancient Mayan Princesses.  I don't know why it says the first chapter.

Author's Response: Aw, I'm honored to be trusted...I promise, no characters were harmed in the writing of this story ;-) And, as I said earlier, I love hearing that you could easily picture this. Thanks so much, you Peeping Krissy, you!

It's amazing.  I dreamt parts of this story the other day.  Well - not so much dreamt.  I was awake and walking home from work down that stretch of Broadway that's kind of sketchy and full of perfume and accessory shops.  And - in my fanfic funk - was thinking about Pam wandering around the city while Jim was back at Scranton.  I even saw the words "bed's too big" in relation to Pam being here alone my mind as I walked.  I thought about how long they'd been "together" and realized one year is a lie.  The resulting story - if I can ever get it written - will be much different than yours of course - but at least you have assured me on I'm the right track.   And a song I listened to on the way to work today would make the perfect soundtrack.

So - enough about me.  Back to you.  This chapter is like a mini movie and I see every scene so clearly.   You are amazing in the way you keep their voices even with very little dialogue.   You write good missy. :)

Also?  I love Jim.  A lot, a lot.   And of course - you too for writing this. :)

Author's Response: Just more proof that great minds obsess alike ;-) Can't wait to read your take on the summer of long distance lurve. And I like that - a mini movie - cool. Oh btw, even though I know I seem blase about him - I kind of like Jim too. Thanks, you!!!

Now see - when I was just down there for Jury Duty there was no sign of Jim.

Maybe it was one of those times that Pam didn't let him out of the apartment.

Who can blame her?

The picture you paint here is so vivid - that even if I wasn't born and bred around these parts I would be able to see it clearly.

And that (and also because of the steady dose of steam throughout) is exactly why you're so clearly awesome. :)

Author's Response: I love hearing 'vivid'...like music to my ears. And Pam must have kept him occupied, knowing you were around - but she's not the jealous type, you know. Well, maybe a little. ;-) So happy you're enjoying this little NYC love fest - many thanks, xoxoxo!

Love the little details and the delicious building tension throughout this whole thing.  I can't wait to see what else you've got in store.  Hurry up. :)

Author's Response: Michael was weirdly... easy? If you just give him something to meddle it, his responses in that situation become fairly obvious. I would have a very hard time, though, writing a fic in which he was the main or a major character. I think he\'s pretty much always going to be a prop for me.

WOW.  Ouch indeed.  I wasn't going to leave this review - but I hope you take it in the spirit in which it's left - from one Jim/Pam writer to another.

I don't know what it is - but in general I am very sympathetic to Pam.   I was pissed at her various times in S2 - but S3 gave me a change of heart.  I guess it's my nature to always see both sides of things and I think both Jim and Pam were equally hurt and equally to blame for their year apart.  Jim wasn't fair to Pam either - and he waited until there was absolutely no time left to finally open his mouth.  He mislead her during The Secret re: the depth of his feelings for her.  I always try and remember that when I want to scream at her in GWH.  He said it was a crush - now he says it's love.  As a woman days from getting married it's no wonder she freaked out.   (Greg Daniels has yet to sufficiently explain to me why they didn't talk again before The Initiation and I don't ever expect him to.  That's the biggest problem I have with the show - but S4 was a decent apology - LOL!)

Anyway - to that end I don't agree at all with Emily's assessment of S3.  She saw what went on with a completely different set of eyes than me.  But I guess that's the point.

I know that what we often think is perfect often...isn't and I guess Emily's reaction is a realistic one - but I have to say I don't even recognize the Pam in your fic (again - probably the point) and some of the banter Jim and Emily share is very similar to the Jim and Pam banter I know and love (to write and to see on the show).    Not to say he couldn't find that kind of thing twice in a lifetime - but it's hard for me to imagine him matching as well with anyone else.

Obviously.

Since this is your story the interpretation is yours I know I should expect her to be different.  I have to admit this is much harder for me to read than I initally expected. I knew I'd have to suspend my disbelief but I guess I just hit a wall here.  Please don't misunderstand, it's not the writing it's the fact that the subject just makes my heart hurt far too much.  I want to see the ways they can make it work. Right now I can't handle imagining that they won't be able to.  And so, when I write them - even if there's conflict - I "fix" things in the end.  That's just me.

It's obvious now there are many who are following along on your journey into "what if" - but I'm sorry to say this might be where I have to get off.  :'(

Author's Response: xoxoxo, thank you so much for your review. I appreciate your honesty and by all means, if this fic isn\'t working for you then you shouldn\'t keep reading (I\'ve stopped reading many a WIP in the middle for any number of reasons, and certainly didn\'t leave such a nice review explaining why). I completely understand what you\'re saying re: Pam and where your sympathies lie. I love Pam and I see so much of myself in her, and perhaps that is why I was so frustrated with her between Casino Night and The Merger. I just have never bought any rationalization for that long of a silence, and I\'m not sure how Jim would ever get over that. But again, that\'s just my opinion. (I will agree that Jim made his share of mistakes, especially during season 2 IMO, but if Pam had contacted him just once in those five months before he came back with a \"can we try this again\", I think a lot of sh*t would have never hit the fan.)

Now, re: the banter between Emily and Jim. Yes, it probably is similar to Jim/Pam banter, but I think that any time two people have a connection, they tend to have that sort of thing -- that understanding of the other\'s language and sense of humor. I\'ve had that kind of rapport with other people besides my husband and those are people I like to spend time with. And if I had never met my husband, they might be people I\'d want to date. I don\'t think that jokes/banter/etc. are exclusive to Jim and Pam -- they are just the people we\'re used to writing it for (and reading it about). I will argue that I think Emily, as a person/character, is quite different from Pam. She\'s more outgoing, probably more sure of herself, maybe slightly less \"nice\". I hope that people aren\'t seeing her as just another Pam, because my whole point of writing this story is to show that I don\'t think there is only one perfect person for each of us. If Emily is just another Pam, then I\'ve sort of failed in this, I guess.

Anyway, I know this place (MTT) is filled with lots of people who share your viewpoint and don\'t want to read about \"what ifs\", but I find it so fascinating as a writer to explore. It\'s amusing to me that people are taking this little story so seriously, PMing me and questioning me about every detail, trying to justify to themselves that this could never really happen. To me, that\'s the whole point -- it\'s fiction! Almost anything can happen given the right circumstances and motivations. Jim and Pam do seem really solid on the show and I certainly would never argue that TO writers are going to have them break up. But what if they never hashed out their feelings about the past/Roy/Karen/etc.? What if Pam goes through a major change at Pratt? What if Jim\'s insecurities come crashing back when he feels like Pam is drifting away from him? What if their poor communication resurfaces when faced with the possibility of hurting each other again? As a writer, these character \"weaknesses\" if you will are what make writing so fun.

Sorry, got carried away there. Anyway, I just want you to know that I\'m not offended at all and I appreciate your taking the time to explain your thoughts.

I have to confess - I badgered uncgirl when she told me you were writing something and it was awesome.  So I had small inkling of what was in store for me before I opened the chapter.   In the words of Kevin Malone Jim without Pam is like peanut butter without jelly - except as I write that I realize I really don't like jelly so I usually have my PB plain.

So not the point of this review - and a really bad analogy.

This story is definitely realistic - not what I ultimately want to see (my tortured heart simply can't take it) - but  the writing is so lovely I can't help but go along for the ride.

I am looking forward to more...even as I finish my happy Jim and Pam chapter in retaliation. (sorta kidding - but kinda true)

I completely admire your bravery. :)

Author's Response: Aw, uncgirl is pimping my sad story that no one wants to read? Love her. Anyway, I\'m so happy that you are writing your happy story to counteract this one. If you look at my first 11 stories -- all happy. I guess when I got to a dozen I decided to be a rebel. (And the current rating on this story proves that this in not a way to make friends among this fandom.) I may be brave, but also a little stupid. ;-) Thanks for reading and reviewing xoxoxo. It means a lot!

Lis - this is exactly the sentiment I subscribe to.  When I wrote 12 Weeks I wanted to be sure that Pam had a reason to come back to Scranton (one that was not exclusively because of Jim).  I think this is the most realistic scenario of all.  Obviously. LOL!

Glad to see we're on the same page. ;) (Not that it's suprising).   Thanks so much for giving us your 2 cents.

Author's Response: Oh, thank you! Yeah, I'm not surprised that we agree here. I love Pam, but being Fancy and New doesn't automatically translate to having the Prettiest Art of all the Art. I also think that, realistically, she's not leaving Scranton at this point, so there has to be a reason for her to stay.

I love this.  It was sweet, perfectly in character and unique in a quiet little way.  I love that you have Pam get emotional - but not overly so.  Early on I tended to leave her a weeping mess and though I think she could get there - it was nice for her to regain composure so quickly.

or I could have just said ditto to Colette's sentiments. :)  Impeccable taste - that one has.    Really wonderful job.

Well that was a perfectly lovely analogy.  Such a beleiveable and creative way to look at it.  You do first person Jim so well.  (twss).  Really fabulous job with this.   Yay you.  :)

Author's Response: I wish I did Jim well. hehehe.  Thanks so much Hugs! Somehow writing in Jim first person often feels more comfortable than Pam first person for me...very strange!  Thanks so much for always responding! You're awesome!
