This was a sweet, really cute story.  Every now and then my husband and I play this game, too, so I really connected with it and could see the humor / wistfulness of it.  "Well, you were the one who ..."  "Yeah, but that was because you said..." and of course, it's always done with smiles, knowing how far you've come.  I can't wait until Jim and Pam get to this point.  :)

Author's Response: I do believe one day they will look back and say "what the hell did we put ourselves through!"  I just can't wait to see it!

Summary:

I really have no idea what this is about. ;-)

It's a light bit of Karen/Pam slash with a twist, mixed in with the spirit of Christmas..

Bonus points to you if you figure out what the hell the title means. ;-)

Wow, I just have to say that I am going to spend the rest of the afternoon thinking about Pam's fantastic breasts and that?  Is NOT good for work.  But it is a compliment to you and your wonderful writing ... this was so nice and hot and I was freaking out thinking, "What the hell is going on?" and then it turns out that he's dreaming all along and I was like, "Phew," and then I was like, "Holy crap, Jim's having sexy dreams about Karen and Pam!  That's HOT!"  I could totally see something like that happening.  I like how you worked this in with what we know so far about the Christmas episode.  More yummy Jim and Pam, please.

Author's Response:

You don't think that after all those years of adoring her from afar Jim doesn't have specific ideas about what Pam's breasts look like?  ;-)

And while a Pam/Karen slash sounded interesting to me, I could only see it working in the context of a dream.  Glad you think it worked well!  :-)

I am SO excited to read more.  You have done a great job of capturing Jim and Pam post-merger.  I like how their interactions are peppered with both awkwardness and tenderness at the same time.  Why do you only post one chapter?  GAH.

Author's Response:

Why?  Because it was 9:00 AM and I hadn't showered yet - and I'm afraid of losing my job so close to Christmas. :)

Thanks GreenFish!  I'm so glad you're excited to read the rest.

I can't stop myself.  Looks like I've started my lunch hour - without actually going to get my lunch.  More later today for sure.  So just sit tight!  :)

OMG, I LOVE this chapter.  This is so perfectly Jim and Pam and captures the awkwardness of that moment, that moment where he knows she knows and ... ahhh.  I wanted to curl up and read it with one eye open because --- man, it hurts.  I know what it feels like, too, I've been there.  Wow.  Nice job!  Write moooooore.

Author's Response:

I wrote it in kind of that same state - so I'm right there with you.

More soon.  Promise!

I just want to say thanks for giving me a sneak preview because I loved this chapter.  I think it really goes along with where the series is at right now, and I have to give you a lot of credit for that.  It's like reading spoilers, though!  I knew exactly what was going to happen when I read it.  I can't decide if I like that or not.  Anyway, awesome, if I didn't tell you earlier.  I want the next chapter NOW.

Author's Response:

That's the plus and minus of beta reading in a nutshell.

And sigh - SO. GREEDY.

Trust me.  I'm working on it. ;)

Author's Response: Oh!!!  And just wanted to say thanks again for all your insight/suggestions.  You rock!

Phew, WOW.  I am gone for a week and you write three new chapters and I think I just about had a heart attack -- these were fantastic and I LOVE IT.  I so want them to just make it happen and I loved the bit about Pam going to take ice skating lessons and then running into Jim and at first it's awkward but then they just sort of fall into it... and Sasha's comments -- I totally had to giggle at that because I just spent the week hanging out with my four year-old niece (and two year-old nephew) and there definitely just *is* something about kids and their honesty, and that was just so sweet.  Okay, where is the next chapter????

Author's Response: Hee GreenFish!  So glad you're enjoying it!  And the next chapter is (FINALLY) here!!  Sorry for the delay.  Hope you had a happy holiday!

I love it.  I love reading about the "outside" life of our office staff that we never get to see.  Please write more like this.

Also:  a side note, I loved the bit about Karen and the music and how she just doesn't "get it" but she's trying so hard to fit into what she thinks he wants; I can't tell you how many times I've done that before and every time I did that it was wrong; the person was just wrong, and I think that's the best way to sort of explain why Karen is just not right for Jim, you know?  It's endearing that she's trying so hard to impress Jim of all people.  That's what really funny and interesting about that bit.  We, as the viewer, always had this perception of Jim as this slacker, laid-back, easy-going kind of guy, not some indie hipster with a taste for the eccentric and unattainable - but to Karen, who doesn't know him the way we do, she feels like she has to try to impress and/or "fit in" to his scene, which... I don't know, I just think that's so funny.  I loved that bit.

Man, I liked them all.  Please write more!!

Duuuuude.  What's going ON with Jim and Karen?  This story has been so elusive.  They're on again, off again.  And Pam.... GAH.  Ask him out, do something.  YEESH.

I totally love how you have Jim coaching basketball to 7 and 8 year-olds.  Awesome.  And it really is FNB for her to come to a game of his, so, yea on that.  I'm really, really looking forward to the next chapter.

Author's Response:

You will find out what's up with Jim and Karen in the last part, I promise. I just didn't want them breaking up in the middle of the story, because I sort of wanted to do something different than a lot of the stories being written now (not that they aren't lovely, but I didn't want to step on anyone's toes.)

Also, hee, Fancy New Beesly. I'm glad you liked Jim coaching!

I really like these little vinettes about Jim's feelings for Pam.  I felt he seemed uncharacteristicially bold in the first one (with his hand on her cheek), but then I thought that they were probably both a little drunk (Pam a lot drunk -- I love the details in that story, too, heh) ... and I have to admit that I've been there, having someone do something like that even though it was too much at the time, and then questioning whether it really happened.  I love these.

Author's Response: Thanks.  Actually when I wrote this story, I had it in my head that he hadn't actually done that, but that they were so close and the fact that Pam was drunk and angry at Roy, she'd imagined it and it felt real to her.  It was just sort of a picture I couldn't get out of my head.  Thanks for your review!

This was an interesting series.  The third one - wow.  That made me gasp out loud beacuse, honestly, I forgot about the camera crew, too, and when you mentioned them clattering about I was like, "Holy CRAP!"  And suddenly I felt really embarrassed for Pam and Jim.  And Jim, blocking them so that she could move aside and then convincing them to destroy the tape.  Oh, Jim.

The fourth one broke my heart.  It was so sad.  I'm so very glad it didn't actually happen like that, because it would be so much harder for them to come back from that, you know?

I also really enjoyed the last one because it was interesting -- having you reverse the positions of them in that scene, and I think that the dialogue sounds like them; it sounds like how it might go if the scene had gone in that direction, instead.

You are making me hungry for Jim and Pam.  Rawr.

Author's Response: Thanks for reading and reviewing, GreenFish!

Okay, so I've been gone and I've caught up to your third chapter so far.  LOVE IT so far.  I had to stop and comment here, because -- okay, well, let's see -- Styx??  EXCELLENT.  I have that song on a mix CD and I had to start singing it.  Your Michael dialogue is just perfect in this one, too -- "My distant younger cousin."  LOL!

I also really liked the ending to the Karen chapter; your details have been excellent -- the comment about Cugino's and how Jim insisted they go to another place that just isn't very good and how Karen questions about them eating out ... you did an awesome job at getting into her head!  Can't wait to read more ... here I go ...

I find the Pam/Karen chemistry to be so interesting.  They really do make a good team, and Jim sort of mucked up the works with everyone, didn't he?  He's like the glue of so many things and the undoing of so many other things in the office.  It's an interesting thing about him.  I see that you marked this as completed, but I'll be honest:  I'd love to read more in this universe.  Do Pam and Karen remain friends?  Does their chemistry push them farther?  Does Karen break up with Jim?  Does he break up with her?  Do Pam and Jim get togther?  There's still so many questions about where things stand with all of them here.  I really liked it, though ... it seemed very realistic given the events of ABC.  Nice work.

One other thing.... you know, it would be interesting if this story had a double-meaning, like, for instance, not only is it Phyllis taking a stand against Karen, but also maybe Phyllis taking a stand for herself.  After seeing the way that she was treated in ABC, I think that might be an interesting side-plot to explore if you wanted.

Phyllis is one of my favorite characters, and I loved her take-charge attitude with Pam at Pam's desk.  The only question I have is, how did Phyllis get to see the kiss between them?  I understand from the story that she saw it on video, but why did Phyllis see it and not Pam?  I'm just curious about the backstory behind that comment.  Sorry -- just a stickler for details... I love knowing about little stuff like that.

You've got an interesting start...

Author's Response:

Hmm. I was assuming that no one has seen the video footage yet at all, and Phyllis just had because of the bribe.

 Thank you, though!
