You did such a nice job on this story; I could definitely see where Pam was at here, and I'm glad for it, because it was so easy to be angry at her for leaving with him last week!  Thanks for writing this.

Author's Response: Thank you :)

OMG, I laughed SO much during this story.  If you just continue to write stories like this (including Michael, AND Jim + Pam sekrit lurve) I will award you the "Wins At Life" medal.  I loved it!  Your Michael is hilarious and so ... Michael.  And Michael & Jan.  Ahhhh.  So awesome.  Medieval Times, too!  WOW.

Author's Response: Wow!  I've never had a medal before.  :)  I'm so glad you enjoyed it.  Methinks there are still more "rules" Michael will feel the need to impart - so stay tuned. :)

Holy crap, this was hilarious.  I am reading this at work (bad idea) and had to literally hold my stomach so I wouldn't just burst out laughing and give myself away.  Your Michael is just -- impeccable -- and you know I'm a huge fan of Jim & Pam keepin' it secret.  So awesome.  You should write a little series of stories in this universe.

Author's Response:

I'm so glad you liked it!!!

Oh this is just Chapter 1.  Michael fancies himself an "expert" now and in his own bumbling way - he just might be. ;)

Your Michael dialogue just about had me in tears.  Please, please write more Michael!fic.  And Jim and Pam?  *sigh*  such a sap.  I LOVE PROPOSALS.

Author's Response:

OK then.  If you say so I will write some more Michael.  Just for you. :)

I think I could give you a run for your money in the sap department my dear. :)

And LOL! to your response to my Round Robin review.

Okay, I think you win just for using Oregon Trail.  I was a little weirded out when I realized this actually WAS set in the past and Dwight wasn't playing Oregon Trail now (hey ... why not?  That game rocks), but, you know, I liked what EL said -- about Jim having serial crushes on receptionists.  You never know...

Also:  the Todd Packer gay thing just had me in stitches.  I thought: of COURSE.  That was a nice touch.

I think I literally squealed aloud about 12 times during this story.  Probably because Dwight + Me + Power Ballads = OTP.  I LOVE POWER BALLADS.  Yes, it's so sad, but I have this CD I bought recently and it makes me happy because I choose different songs that I think remind me of Jim and Pam and office people.  Not to mention that Dwight is the ultimate power ballad guy.  I mean, seriously.  He drives a Trans Am.  For realsies.

This story was really cute.  I think (constructively), the last paragraph is extraneous.  I sort of like it leaving off with Jim sort of realizing he's said too much and walking away.  It's true to canon.

I totally want the mix now.  I  am going to get it and I'm going to love it forever.  :D

I kind of want Karen to ask more about what he was talking about.  I know I kept paying attention to Jim's part of the conversation, trying to imagine how Karen would be piecing it together.  I think you should add a little more here --- wouldn't she want to know about Roy?  What does she know about Pam & Roy and how Jim relates to it?  Why should Jim be scared of Roy?  What was it all about?

And Pam ---- calling Jim in the CAR while he's with Karen.  WOW.  Go FNB.  ;)

Author's Response: Hi GreenFish!  Yeah, the whole Jim/Karen conversation is in part two that I'm working on right now.  I certainly didn't mean to indicate that that was the end of their conversation--Karen is the last person to think "it's none of my business" and I think Jim's side of the conversation would drive her nuts!  Thanks for the review!

Damn cliffhangers. You're going to drive me up a wall with this stuff.  I do enjoy Pam finally starting to be assertive at the end here.

Also:  I did not know you could make S'mores in the oven!  I'll have to try this sometime.

Finally, I'm glad that you didn't include the ipod songs - I think it would have been too distracting to the story.  OTOH, I never notice lyrics unless it's a song that's particularly poignant to me.  I think the story worked better without that, though.  It flowed nicely the way you have it written.

Author's Response:

You're one to talk, missy!  (Actually, that's not true, because thank god when I read your latest, both chapters were already up. Holy God, that was an awesome story - I giggled and gasped all the way through it.)

Anyhoo -- thanks for the input re: the song titles; I'm inclined to agree with you on that one.

Hahaha... I'm laughing as I'm reading the reviews because you are apparently taking this response challenge quite seriously.  That being said -- yea.  This chapter made me SO freakin' happy.  I've been angsty all night about Jim and Pam, driving in my car, thinking about things, how I just want them to be HAPPY, etc, etc and then I read this and I'm like, "Oh, yea.  Happy."  Especially when she wakes him up and she's kissing him and I felt like, "Yes -- GO FNB, GO!"  Please, Pam.  Take your man by the reins and claim him.  Claim him, already.  He is yours, baby.  *happy sigh*

Author's Response:

Hah - I'm taking it very [/Jim] seriously, GF.  Really, though, I had no idea that readers perceive it as a sort of brush-off when authors don't respond to reviews!  And of course, I am inherently incapable of being succinct, so my responses are like rambling diatribes.  Sigh.

I'm glad this eased your angst.  (I was writing with the show on mute tonight, but when the PLoD scene happened, I turned the volume up, watched it, then sat there shaking my head in frustration.  Damn them and their inability to just talk to each other!)

Thanks for the review!

Ooooh.  This is interesting.  I'm intrigued by the fact that Pam goes to talk Roy out of not going after Jim.  I guess I wonder whether he'll stick to his word or not?  And that scene in the office?  I think I covered my eyes a few times.  I watched "The Secret" today (one of my favorite episodes) and it reminded me of how ridiculous these things become once word gets around.  I think you helped capture that sense of awkwardness that happens when a rumor breaks loose.

Anyway, I'm guessing we're gonna bring on a little smut soon?  I know you won't let us down.  We have so very little!

Author's Response:

I'll take it as a compliment that you found it cringe-inducing.  :o)  Yeah, I'll be bringing on some steam at least and maybe smut - these things get away from me sometimes.... :o)

This was incredibly sweet.  I love how we now all have this idea that Karen's going to break up with Jim once she finds out about Roy.  (I think she should!)  Your Dwight was hilarious and great.  My favorite exchange was this one:

“Fact: the more Jim talks to you, the better mood he is in at work. Fact: He's been incredibly morose lately. I can only conclude you two have had some sort of falling out.”

This was incredibly Dwight-like to me.  I loved it!  It totally makes sense that he would spend time logging Jim's moods and how they correlate to whom he interacts with.  Nice!  I didn't even think about the five elements.  Great job.

Author's Response: It makes absolutely NO sense to me for Karen NOT to break up with Jim once the Roy thing comes out.  It is such a big secret that Jim clearly kept from her that she'd have to be a fool......but then again we thought that after he admitted still having feelings for Pam.  I do wonder if what really happens is that this causes Jim to have just enough hope that Pam is interested that he drops Karen to open up the path to Pam. But hell, what do I know???  :-)  Thanks so much for the review!

Wow.  This was an awesome chapter.  I probably gasped about five times or more reading this.  I noticed a few tense discrepancies in the previous chapter.  Also:  the POV-change, especially at the beginning of this chapter, was a little jarring.  I find it better if you just change the POV with each scene, rather than going back and re-doing the scene again from someone else's perspective.  Just my opinion.

That being said -- this is such a great take on post-Cocktails.  I love the fact that Jim told Karen about the Dundies kiss, not Casino Night.  And all the confusion and anger --- and Kenny on the hood of Jim's car?  OMG.  So engaging.  I can't wait to see what happens next!!

Author's Response:

Thanks GreenFish! I love that you gasped :) And Kenny on the hood of Jim's car is my favorite part of this, which is probably weird. The humor is always the most fun to write, although the drama is nice too.

I always have the inclination to write in past tense. It's like my default setting. But I have only written these in present tense because I think it makes everything more nervewracking because it's like it's happening right now. But sometimes I start out writing in past tense and then go back and convert it and I constantly miss things. Oopsie! If you could point out specific places where I slipped up I would love it. I'd like to fix any stupid errors I made (and there are probably many...) Anyway, if you have a moment, just email me through MTT.

As for the POV changes, I find it helpful to get into the mindset of the new character by sort of recapping what they've been feeling up to the present. So I'll probably continue re-doing the last couple of things that happened in the previous chapter from the new POV, but hopefully I can find a way to make it less jarring.

Thanks for all of your comments!
