That's pretty good; we don't read that many stories where Jim has his way with her and just leaves. I would totally cry if I were Pam after that; how dissatisfying.  I mean, the memory of how good it was would just linger ---- and then him just walking away, man.

Summary: First Roy was in the way, then Karen, now a blast from James Halpert's past makes a relationship for Jim and Pam a far off fantasy. Spoilers through "Phyllis's Wedding."

This is an interesting start!  Two comments:  one, I find that the name before the talking heads, i.e. "Jim." before his talking head in italics is distracting.  The fact that you put the talking head in italics helps distinguish it for what it is and makes the name-bit unnecessary.

Two:  are you really going to make Missie a possible love-interest for Jim?  I mean, I guess if they were exes, it's always possible, but if Missie knows that Jim's always had a thing for Pam and then she gets in-between them, wouldn't she kind of feel like an asshole?  Something to think about as you continue it.

Also:  I'm kind of interested in Karen's reaction to having Missie in the office.  I like the fact that Pam acknowledges that they might be friends (poor Pam needs a friend) -- but how does Karen react?  Does she know who Missie is?  Did Jim and Karen talk about her ever?  Is she going to be threatened by her?  I'm curious about this dynamic.  I don't think you need to make Karen "catty," per se, but I think she'd be a little cautiously suspicious.  Karen always seemed like the type of person who had more guy friends than girl friends (and Jim, I think, had a good combination of guy and girl friends).  If I were Karen, I'd be a little exasperated at having another Jim Halpert friend/love interest in the office.

Anyway, definitely interested to see where this goes.

This is definitely interesting.  Dwight as Pam's stepbrother?  Jim, Toby, and Ryan as stoners?  LOL!!!  I never watched Freaks & Geeks but I like this beginning.  I'd be interested to see where you go with it.

Also:  Oscar's last name is actually Martinez on the show; his real-name is Nunez.  Don't know if that was intentional or not.

Okay... write more.

Oh my God, this is SUCH an awesome story.  I love, love, LOVE stories about the cameramen, and I just love how this one's fallen for Karen.  I can totally see how he'd think Jim's a dick and how he just needs to step up to the plate.  And Red Nose Day ... and FNB ... and just... wow.

Your style is really clean and I like how you took the events that we saw and turned them into a different perspective.  Showed how the cameramen ask questions and that they actually have a bit of motive in what they ask.

Yea.  Great job!!!  I'm so glad you wrote this.

Author's Response: I'm really glad you liked the cameramen POV, I always wonder what the camera guys actually think of these people and I don't think its a stretch for one of them to fall for one.  Thanks for the review!

I have to admit, I was a little perplexed by the significance of the 3 v. 1 button metaphor.  I gather that it's supposed to mean that water (i.e., Karen) is the obvious choice, but grape soda (i.e., Pam), is the road-less traveled, and what he really wants.  Am I missing something there?

I definitely think that Jim relates his old ways (Ham & Cheese sandwiches, grape soda) to his old self and his "new" ways (water, tuna sandwiches, new car) to his "new" self.  Nonetheless, eventually, you are who you are, and old habits die hard.  Interesting idea for a story.

Author's Response: Sorry, I guess I didn't make it as clear as I had hoped. Basically the 3 vs. 1 and the fic as a whole was that Karen is the smart grown-up choice, but Pam's what he really wants. And then he realizes that Karens aren't that hard to find, whereas you only come across a Pam once in a life time. Sorry!

I have to say, Karen was definitely in rare form here.  I think that maybe she needs to chill out!  OTOH, if I was Jim, I definitely would have broken up with her if she was acting that way.

I noticed a few technical issues -- you might want to consider using a beta reader to help you fix a few of those things.

Are you going to write about Jim & Pam's date at the concert?  I'm not really into songfic, and I think it would get bogged down if you wrote about the songs, but a few well-placed references here and there and some Jim & Pam... that could be fun.

Author's Response: Greenfish- I was thinking about writing a second chapter about the concert but i'm not sure really if that would add much to the story or where it would go. If I get some more reviews saying they want a second chapter I will start one. Thanks for your kind review!

This is an interesting start.  You've set it up so that it would appear that the deathee (is that a word?) is Dwight, but it also seems you've made it deliberately a mystery because you want to keep us guessing (or thinking it's Dwight.  Or Creed.  Actually, either one would be relevant.)  I like the premise, but I don't know if the "surprise, who died?" is necessary.

Two comments:  1) you might want to check your word use; read over the story again.  I caught a couple words that were used improperly, i.e., "slowly" instead of "slow."  (That wasn't it, but that's what I mean.  And 2), I really wonder whether Jim would hope that whomever it was kept a journal.  I doubt that - it seems too obvious and sets up the fact that they are going to find a journal.  I think he'll just be curious what he's going to find, not really knowing what to expect.

I don't know if you've used or are interested in using a beta, but the couple little things like this could and/or would be easily caught by using one.

Don't let my wordy review overwhelm you -- I am definitely interested to see where this goes ...

I definitely like the premise of this story.  I think it's completely obvious to everyone that there's something going on with Jim and Pam, and (perhaps) like us, they're tired of watching it.  I think your Dwight/Angela interactions are brilliant, you really have them in character.  The conversation (over the coffee mugs) in the kitchen was slightly confusing, but I got the general gist of what they were saying.

Also, I agree with Doof, I had a little trouble swallowing that Creed, of all people, would form this committee, but I think you could make it work as long as you keep the wackiness of Creed intact.  You might want to have Creed refer to them as Jim and the "receptionist," or something like that.  We know he's not all there, really.

That little bit at the end with Ryan was awesome, too.

Author's Response: tips on writing creed are so, so, so greatly appreciated - i've never written him much before and honestly i was a little nervous about him having such a large role in this, but Who else? was my rationale...thanks very much! =D

I'm glad that you added that bit to the end as well -- although now I have to say that Marsha has come off as a bit creepy, demanding letters from Jim!  It's sort of like she's blackmailing him.  If I was Jim, I would have walked away, too.

I find this interesting now because, in a way, it reveals a bit of narrator bias on the part of Marsha.  No longer is she just a neutral observer in these letters that Pam's writing to Jim, she's now an active participant in a scheme not only to reveal Pam's feelings, but to also make herself feel better, which is a bit sinister in a way.  Very interesting!

Can't wait to read more of this.  Keep sending it my way!!

Wow!!!  I finally got a chance to read what you have so far (what a difference a week away makes) and I am SO glad I did.  I love this story.  I have not read a story up to this point that made me enjoy Pam/Ryan (OK, I take that back, I've read one - and only one other) ... but yeah, you've really built this up and I'm liking it.  Plus, I really enjoy Jealous!Jim.  Especially since Karen is really encouraging the whole Ryan thing ... this is getting so good!!  Plus, I'm very impressed how well you've managed to write the whole ensemble here.  Not an easy thing to do.

Also, I will admit:  I've been waiting for the Pam/Ryan makeout scene and it did not disappoint.  Especially that one in the hallway -- holy hotness, Batman!  My stomach actually jumped when I read that.  And then Jim coming across them?  AHHHHH.

Seriously.  Please update very very soon.  Or I may have to resort to desperate tactics.  (You don't what to know what those are.  Um.  I may not know what they are yet, but they will be very desperate.  Yes.)
