Just as quickly as life can give you everything you've ever wanted, it can take it away on a dime. When tragedy strikes, will Jim and Pam's love be able to stand the tests?

Set during the summer between S2/S3.

For those of you who watched Lost or Once Upon a Time, the theme of flashbacks will be heavily played with in this one :)

I really love the dream sequences and the way you’ve progressed in the story, time wise. My favorite was the one of them as dogs. That made me laugh out loud. I think you’ve done a realistic job with having her memories (hints of memories, rather) start to drift back slowly (probably frustratingly, for her) and I just really enjoy this story!

Ugh so sweet and heartbreaking and I just can’t wait to see what happens next. I loved their dialogue; I loved the way her body and her subconscious knows that she wants to talk to Jim and make him laugh, even if she doesn’t remember who he is. Can’t wait to read more!

I honestly don’t think I’ve ever read anything from Roy’s point of view. I am excited to see that incorporated into this story! It’s probably one of the most heartbreaking things I’ve read, for all involved. You do it SO well. Can’t wait to read more!

Oooh my goooodddd this is SO beautiful and SO heartbreaking. How do you do that? Just the way you wind these words together to convey so much emotion and paint such a picture is AMAZING. I can’t wait to see where this is headed.

Fantastically written start and I am definitely already hooked. I have actually not read a fic with this premise before and I’m glad that this one will be the first because I think you’re just so talented. Your descriptors are amazing and I’m so jealous of the way that you can convey such emotion with just a few simple sentences. I can’t wait to see where this goes!

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I know this one has been done a few times, but I wanted to give it my own shot. Hopefully it doesn't disappoint :)

I can’t imagine how difficult it is to write a story like this, intertwine flashbacks and present day and have these conflicting emotions and thoughts and keep it all straight. So don’t worry about taking your time, each update is worth the wait! Excellent as always, can’t wait to read the aftermath of what Pam overheard.

Summary:

Roy isn't perfect, but Pam loves him, and love is about looking past the problems isn't it? Jim is too preoccupied with his feelings for his best friend to see what is really going on. Dwight sees something private and begins to suspect that one of his co-workers is in a bad situation. Don't worry. He has a plan.

Just want to say that I think you have hit the nail on the head as far as train of thought/frame of mind in an abusive relationship. So much of that resonated with me and reminded me of my own experience. “He’s a good guy” “it’s my fault for not showing that” “I did something I shouldn’t have” “I owe him this because of something I did” are all things I thought in my own abusive marriage. This is such a tricky and heavy subject and I think you are doing it right. I look forward to seeing where you take things from here. Great job so far.

Author's Response: Thank you so much. It means everything to hear from someone else who has gone through stuff like that that I am doing it right. This story, Pam's experiences, are really built on my own. It's great to be free. :)

Two chapters! I was excited to see that. I like having chapters from Dwight’s point of view. He is a tricky character for me to write and I’m so impressed with how you nail his characterization. I find it totally believable that he would want to help a victim get out of an abusive relationship. GREAT job. Can’t wait to read more.

I think that you strike such a good balance as far as depicting what this type of relationship is really like. Yes, sometimes there is objective and obvious horribleness. But sometimes it’s more subtle and scarring and that can be so hard to write. You already know that I think you do a great job with that and that’s no different this chapter.

I also think your dialogue is really believable. I can really hear each character saying the lines you’ve given them. Great job!

This was such a sweet chapter. You capture all of their personalities really well! Great job. Can’t wait to see what happens next.

I've never seen this side of Jim before! I'm curious to see where it goes and if someone can come along and snap him out of his hard-ass attitude. Looking forward to where it goes next!

Author's Response: Thanks for taking the time to review Tuna! Jim won’t be a hard-ass forever, I promise. Him and Pam are going to see each other again and that might change things up.

Summary:

When Roy attacks Jim in the office, it isn't his first time hurting someone. Pam acts odd during her apology to Jim, and for the first time since the merger, he can't bring himself to ignore it. A two or three part AU based around “Cocktails” (S3,E18) and “The Negotiation” (S3, E19).

This is such a bad summary, I promise the story is better!

I agree with NobleLandMermaid, this is such a compelling start. You write it very well and if this show hadn’t been on NBC and billed as a comedy, I could 100% see this happening in universe. I really like that Angela (and Dwight, even if it’s unbeknownst to him) is there for Pam because I think that’s in charact her for her, to put her differences aside when it’s important. And I think Roy could definitely have an outburst in the way you’ve written. I know from experience that it’s not that hard for someone to go from throwing glasses to hitting someone they say they love.

Can’t wait to see what happens next!

I love how you’ve written Angela. For all her cattiness, she *is* Pam’s friend and I think she would absolutely help her out in this situation. I don’t think Jim is OOC in this, either. You do a great job at providing insight into what they’re all thinking and feeling. Can’t wait to read more!

Aw! A sweet and happy ending to a sad story. I like the way that things wrapped up and I have to say that I REALLY liked Angela in this. I know she and Pam become better friends as the series goes on but I like to think that she would be there for Pam in a situation like this. I think you wrote the tough stuff really well. Can’t wait to read what you have for us next!

Okay. You already know that I love the callbacks to the show that you’ve been putting in. Laverne’s Pies, Tires Fixed Also showing up in this chapter is amazing.

But I am in absolute amazement at the “that mixed berry yogurt you’re about to eat had expired” moment that you’ve put in. It’s amazing. You’re amazing. This story is amazing. Definitely one of my favorite things I’ve read on this website if not in the larger FF world in general, and even then. I am in love with this version of these characters!

Author's Response: :). I have been working towards that one for several chapters so I'm really glad it worked for you.

I finished this story with a huge dopey grin on my face. Excellent excellent excellent, from start to finish. You should be very proud of the way you commanded the language and weaved familiar characters onto the story in such a way that they became completely new. I am excited to see what you have for us next!

Author's Response: Thank you thank you. I really appreciate your consistent feedback and I'm glad you've been enjoying. I'm not sure what's next, but this has definitely been fun to write. Thanks for reading!

This chapter is so sweet in its angst. I love seeing them in this setting.

Author's Response: Oh boy I'm behind on reviews! Thanks for this. The angst really is the heart of the Romance genre and of this part of Jim/Pam so I think they fit together nicely.

The pranks in these last two chapters are my favorite part. I love them as co-conspirators in ang time frame, but something about them in this setting is just delightful. Always look forward to your updates!

Author's Response: Thanks! It's fun trying to adapt them into Regency terms, because (for example) staplers weren't invented until the 1860s so no stapler in Jell-o.

Excellent as always. I’m guilty of always kind of forgetting about Roy or making him just be this terrible person (because I’d rather Pam and Jim be together) when really he’s just a guy and has his own emotions/feelings/thoughts/etc. Of course he has his flaws and he could have been better, but the same could be said for all of us. Anyway all of that to say that I appreciate seeing Roy’s perspective and I think you did a great job with writing him.

Author's Response: Thanks! I appreciate it, because I'm not a Roy fan, so it's really valuable to get feedback on that element of the story.

Oh my god, this is just so perfect. I was just involved in “The Importance of Being Earnest” at our community theatre so I am right now all about all things witty and English and hilarious. I am so impressed with your writing in this! Could have been written by Wilde himself. Can’t wait to read more! And congrats on AOTM!

Author's Response: "Earnest" is such a good play! I've been in it a couple of times. I appreciate the flattery, and don't worry--there will definitely be more.

I am amazed at how you have transported these characters we know and love into a totally new setting and kept them so true to how they’re written on the show even as you navigate the complexity of the writing style. It’s truly remarkable. I look forward to your updates and am excited to see the next one!

Author's Response: Thank you! I've read four Regency romances in the past week to prepare, so it's good to know that it's filtering into the story like it should.
