I am SO enjoying the fruits of your obsession. Holding my breath . . . . keep 'em coming! :)

Author's Response: Thanks a bunch! I definitely plan to! I'm just trying to work out how Pam would realistically deal with the situations I'm putting her through. a86;

Angry Letters by Rach3l Rated: T [Reviews - 14] 33
Summary:

Pam decides to write angry letters without sending them. Or, well, the modern equivalent thereof. A fun little romp of a story!

AU: Canon divergence. Pam doesn't get back together with Roy in season 3. She leaves the wedding when he asks her to dance. They are not together for her art show. They don't go to Poor Richard's, she doesn't tell him about the kiss with Jim, and he never tries to attack Jim in the office.

Oh. My. Gosh! This had EVERY element I LOVE about Jamfiction! Their voices are true. The story started, seamlessly adding backstory to the existing canon. Then it started to take little turns in a completely believable, delightful, imaginative way. And you brought it home with a flourish of joy! You hooked me big time! Just wonderful! Thank you. :)

Wow, you really captured Jim's pain, in so many layers and waves. Made my heart hurt. Whew!

Author's Response: Should I be worried or flattered that my story is the cause of your heartache? Either way, thank you!

Summary:

Pam calls off her wedding. Roy loses it. Jim's in Stamford, but not for long.

A hospital stay and the recovery afterward, almost entirely from Jim's POV. Earnest and fluffy and sweet, with a side of steam for dessert. Tons of inner monologue, lots of dialogue, dramatic with plenty of humor sprinkled throughout.

Author's Response: Thank you! I really wish I could scrub this story from my mind a la Eternal Sunshine and read it with a fresh set of eyes. Maybe I'll spend a year forgetting it existed and come back and get the same perspective! :)

I love that you posted this story already completed. Not gonna lie; you made me cry. Enjoyed living through this trauma with them. Pam's first words were especially sweet. Thank you for all the heart you poured into this.

Author's Response: All of my stories are completed before I publish them. Kind of a pet peeve I guess, I abhor cliffhangers myself and I can't imagine doing that to anyone else! It also just doesn't work with my writing style. I like making callbacks and I'm really big on internal consistency, so I'm constantly thinking of something really cool in chapter 12 that requires me to go back and add a paragraph in Chapter 1... stuff like that.

Summary: What if Jim and Pam are musicians who meet in college? What if they maybe don't think too highly of each other, until a chance encounter involving public transportation throws them together unexpectedly?

Wow, what a great story. I get really distracted when they are out of character, and Pam is really out of character in this one. Jim is somewhat believable as a younger version. But by the end of the story, none of that mattered. I was totally swept up in this new story line and the new characters and really enjoyed their happiness to the nth degree! Terrific detail, totally captured college life, band-geekedness, the whole musician vibe, Pam's fully-embraced nerdiness, all naturally inhabiting 2017, rather than 2007 (it's weird how much technology has changed everyday details of life in ten short years!) Great writing! Thank you!

Author's Response: Thank you so much for the review! I have a very hard time writing early-season "weak" Pam, and I don't enjoy her much after having children either. I tend to gravitate toward stories that paint her in a stronger light.

I was in orchestra for years, and the orchestra leader always obviously respected the oboe player most of everyone in the orchestra. And yes, there was only one oboe player. :)

Author's Response: I was in band for years, never orchestra because I played the sax (could you tell? ha!)

Freedom First by Rach3l Rated: M [Reviews - 31] 40

100% JAM, with intrigue on the side. Now with bonus sequel: Safety First.

AU: Cameras, cameras everywhere, with a far more sinister purpose. Set in a dystopian version of America, but the people aren't taking it lying down.

Wow. It takes me a while to warm up to the completely-different-universe stories, just cause I love our heroes so much. But I hung in with this one and holy cow, this chapter completely hooked me.

Oh. Holy. Fuck. He knew exactly what she meant. Track nine on the CD he'd loaned her. It really was perfect. Not that he didn't feel like panicking at the idea, but there was nothing he wouldn't try to get her through this. He could worry about his pride later. "Close your eyes." She obeyed, squeezing them closed. His heart lurched violently as he opened his mouth. "Breathe in, breathe out," he sang quietly, tentatively, voice cracking on the last word. She nodded hard, threading her fingers through his, squeezing his hand. He took a convulsive breath, fought back the gut-wrenching terror that he knew didn't hold a candle to hers right now, and forced himself to keep going. "Breathe in, breathe out. Breathe in…"

So after reading this, I went ahead and listened to Breathe in, breathe out --- it had been a while, and I was riveted.  Can't wait for the next chapter now!  You got me!  :)

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I have a Thing with a capital T for singing Jim. That scene was thousands of words in the making. Very glad you appreciated it :)

Aaaack! I've been waiting patiently for the next chapter and just noticed that you marked it complete! Noooooooooooo! This story has so much potential! Please keep going!!!! PLEASE!!!

Author's Response:

I'm working on part two as we speak :) It will be intrigue-alicious, smutty, and thoroughly heartfelt! Probably a few weeks away at this point.

Thank you so much for reading and reviewing. I would keep writing even if I stopped getting reviews altogether, but it really means a lot to know that other people are enjoying the story as well.

Safety First by Rach3l Rated: MA [Reviews - 19] 34
Summary:

An unexpected threat surfaces, testing Jim and Pam's deepening bond in ways neither could have anticipated.

The sequel to Freedom First. Intrigue, drama, sprinkled with fluff, smutty in all the right places (and a few of the wrong ones).

AU: Cameras, cameras everywhere, with a far more sinister purpose. Set in a dystopian version of America, but the people aren't taking it lying down.

**This story picks up a couple of weeks after Freedom First ends. If you haven't read that story, this one may not make sense.

Wow! This just gets better and better. What a great imagination you have! Is it greedy to want more! There are lots of loose threads here that I'm sure you have plans for. Thank you for an enjoyable evening where I voraciously read this, and then read it again. Love this story!

Author's Response:

Thank you for the kind words! :) I'm taking a break from writing for a week or two... I actually need to re-read both stories to make sure I catch all the loose threads. I've been in the habit--not a good one--of leaving danglers in previous fics. What was Pam's favorite food? (mashed potatoes) What did she use her wish on? (something sexy)... etc

Apropos of nothing, I had an alternate storyline for the marriage assignment all planned out in my head. It involved a bureaucratic snafu and their original intended spouses, Roy and Katy, who've gotten along with each other almost as well as Jim and Pam have. I may actually get that down on paper as an alternate ending at some point. But thinking about it, another setback so soon after the week they've had would probably break Pam (and turn Jim into some kind of controlling, paranoid caricature of himself--not unlike her father). Not the direction I want things to go!

First of all Rach3l, I fully support your break from writing. You are unbelievably prolific and I cannot even begin to imagine how time-consuming this process is for you!

That much said, I have to tell you that this Pam and Jim exist in my mind just as strongly as their show counterparts. In fact, you've given them some deeper dimensions, with Pam being even more vulnerable and altruistic and Jim being even more worthy of hero worship. And somehow it comes across as very real. As someone else pointed out, with the current political/social climate, things that we would have never believed to be possible, are apparently possible. So that just adds to the credibility of your story.

So I'm telling you that I find myself wondering how this Pam and Jim are doing. And I can't wait to hear more.

Enjoy the rest of your holidays, and your break. But DO come back! :)

Summary: Past Featured Story

The Office meets Parfumerie/She Loves Me/Shop Around the Corner/You've Got Mail. Pam and Jim meet earlier in life in AOL trivia chatrooms without knowing who each other are.

First, let me say I LOVE this story and look forward reading each new chapter. Their dialogue is very sweet and their voices are TRUE!

HOWEVER

as of several chapters ago, I just could no longer believe that they didn't know their true identities. For a little while I figured that Jim knew, but Pam was still clueless, but as of this chapter, I am convinced that they both know. At first, that was very distracting and frustrating to me. But now I just think they're both lapsing into denial because they're both afraid of revealing the truth . . . that it will pop this safe bubble they've created.

So that's my theory and I'm stickin' to it! :) Keep 'em coming!

Author's Response:

I can totally see that! I'm working on the assumption that the denial (after what is three/ten years in their lives, not a month as we're seeing it) is so deep that this will all eventually click into place but it hasn't yet. Like, Jim feels the walls closing in around him because "it's happening again" not because he realizes they're the same. But yes, it does require quite deep denial, from whichever angle...I may play around with what happens if I come over to your theory. Certainly you'll see Pam and Jim work through it when they do find out (which is soon, though not yet).

And thanks so much for reading.

I know that great writing and excellent "capture" of Jim and Pam has happened when I DON'T want to talk about how great your writing is . . . . because that pulls me away from the story. When it's great, I just want to say things like "poor Jim" or "wake up Pam" or "why didn't they include this scene in the show?" cause I'm so immersed in it!
