This is such a perfect way to use this song to tell a JAM story. Seriously, I was wondering what you would do with it and this is perfection. There are so many lines to love.

"She felt like she didn’t deserve the effervescence that a glass of champagne would provide. And she wasn’t feeling very effervescent, anyway."

"Maybe she was just fucked in the head."

 "She’d already broken his heart in half, she couldn’t be responsible for killing him, too."

There are many more but you get the point. You weaved the lyrics so well in to this story.

I love this song, and I knew that the fic to go with it was going to be deadly. But this takes it out of the potentially sappy Christmas season, and into the darkness of mid-winter. The feelings you invoke with your words are perfect for the song and for the place Jim and Pam find themselves here.

I love that we don't have a lot of details - like where she lives now, did they ever really date - and yet we do have some backstory because you've written it in perfectly.

The sex is so hot and steamy and yet it's not the centrepiece. You just fold it into the story so that we get the searing pain of how much these two like each other, and how well they fit, and yet how this is just not their time.

The way you set a scene is masterful. The bar, and then Jim's house, and then the goodbye in the driveway. Even though this chapter is long, I feel like you say so much with so few words.

This is so good. Just perfect for the song. It was deliciously angsty, but I'm grateful you gave us a happy ending. Part 2 would not be unwelcome.

This line? Perfection. "Time is a funny thing. The way it can hold you in its palm, make all of your senses keenly aware of their surroundings - the driver shouting at Jim, Jim staring at her with an intensity that rivals the neediness in the way her name falls so simply from his lips, the smell of tires on hot asphalt - without really knowing exactly what’s happening in the moment."

And this one. It hurt, a lot: "The date of the party was December 22nd. She wasn’t going to think about how that was the same night she’d answered Danny Cordray’s text and shown up at his house at 11:30 for what was an unapologetic holiday lonely fuck. She’d snuck out at 6 the next morning and waited until she could pull into the Dunkin Donuts parking lot a mile from his house before she let herself cry."

This song felt like a challenge to fit with JAM, but you made it seem easy.

This is such a perfect first date story! I love how it unfolds...the sweetness and steam are balanced and we get some cute lines from both of them. I worry for Jim cooking with no shirt on, but the image is very nice. 😉 And just that little bit of angst. Loved it!

This was very fun! Even if it was half way a joke it was still great. I love Pam's description of her time with Ryan.
I think this is my favourite part though:

Karen slapped her knee, “Damn, Pam! Does Kelly know?”

“I am still living and breathing so no I don’t think she does.”



Hoping for chapter 2.

This is so good. I started picking out favourite lines but there are too many. The feeling of your writing is so beyond mere fluff. You take us into the nuances of the canon bits and give us new scenes and lines to consider too. Beautiful.

Author's Response: Like, I tried to write fluff but I also had to put little angsty bits in there too. It's just who I am I guess. ;) Thank you Sprinkles!

Oh, this was incredibly satisfying. I love the banter you've written, and I like that this Jim is just a little awkward and unsure. That bit of angst at the end is going to keep us on edge until you decide to give us more.

And also, the sex was really, really hot.

Oh my God, how do you do it?? How do you build this full world, so different from Canon and yet so much the same? Amazing.

I should know better than to get attached, after you've broken me with the unfinished HMOH, but here I am, on the edge of my seat to learn if Jim is one of the four impulsive decisions Pam's ever made.

There are so many perfect lines in this chapter, like this paragraph:


"Thursdays. Interesting. Where does that leave Alex?” Oh, she’s in full detective mode now. I can practically picture how Kelly looks in her own head. Pen poised to pad, connecting all the dots of my love life as though she’s solving this week’s murder. I’m certain she’s also wearing a fantastic Burberry trench and a hat in this image of herself. In all fairness, she can really pull off hats."

Alex???! We have Alex here?

So good, I can't wait for more.
