I've been writing fanfiction for awhile now. Just recently discovered The Office and figured I'd try my hand at that as well.

At first I thought of having all my stories in the same universe, but then I had some AU ideas. So any stories that occur within a common universe will be in a given series.

Sometimes doctors can be jerks. Just when a family thinks there's any ray of hope in comes Mr. Clinical and Sterile to quash it at once. I've had a couple like that in real life and called them out on it. The look of "you can't talk to me like that, I'm a Doctor," was priceless.

The scene where they walk Cece to the operating room was just heartbreaking. Same with how Phil told them what he'd been hearing and saying to Cece. The plot thickens for sure. Looking forward to more as always.

Author's Response: I think there's this separation in doctors' minds between a patient and a case and they have a really hard time connecting those things, or maybe its intentional. Either way on the receiving end it just sucks, because you're just looking for empathy and kindness. Sometimes you gotta knock them off their high horse lol I'm so glad you're enjoying! More to come!

So this is so remarkably cute and fluffy! That Jim just automatically gets that this is a big thing for her. Her fears alleviated that he'd treat it as a joke. All great little moments that feed off each other. But then the icing on the cake that this is the little cactus that could. When all other house or desk plants died, this little cactus stood the test of time for the two of them. Just 100% delightful!

Oof, right there in the depths of their S9 angst. In a lot of ways this is worse than anything they faced in S1-S3. Here they're supposed to be together, yet in just about every significant way, they're apart right now. Physically, emotionally they're just not them. Mentally they may be on the same page, but it's not a great page to be on. You did a great job showing how far they had fallen from where they had been. It all really pulls on the heart strings, especially with the song choices too. Great job in pulling that out.

Author's Response: Ah thank you! Angst really isn't my thing so glad it all came across for you! And you're right about s9 vs s1-3!

There they are. The Jim and Pam we know and love. Maybe a bit hesitant to start, but once things finally are out and open, there's no keeping the from each other. As far apart as they had been is now how close they've reconnected. In all the ways. Wonderful to see them like this. They they're back to realizing what's truly important and not letting anything stand in their way again. Great job!

Author's Response: Thank you so much! Always love a warrior review!

Summary:

Not Time Travel but Time Travel adjacent.

A kind of fantasy in reverse – Pam wakes up to find herself in an alternate life without Jim, her children and much of the self-worth she found being in love with and by him. Could she find it again with Jim gone from Dunder Mifflin and without him could she break free from Roy to get back to her other life?

First of all, welcome back. Glad to have you posting again. Second a quick little typo I saw there. "Let it Be" as opposed to "Let it Go." I'm sure Else could belt out the Beatles with the best of them though. Also, did you set up a camera in my family van? Frozen and Cars are the two movies we have on repeat in there ever since our copy of How To Train Your Dragon died.

Okay onwards to meat of this. Absolutely a feeling of dread starting to build. Especially with the story description. Waiting to see how it will all start to play out and how Pam will respond is leaving me on pins and needles. So a great set up that's leaving me craving more. Lots of great details woven throughout as well. Looking forward to more as always.

Author's Response:

HUGE BRAIN FART...Thanks for letting me know about Let it Go - hey I'm poet...

There will be lots a stuff woven through this one -  Looking forward to hearing what you think... Thanks for your interest and review.

First off, loved the Christopher's reference there. Well done. Needed to cover the really important bit of the review first off.

Oof, Pam's in a way here for sure. Kind of felt like a shifting through to an alternate reality thing there in the bathroom with Roy's voice. And from that brief bit it seems like he hasn't changed. More worried about himself than her. Which of course is in direct contrast to Jim. Multiple calls and voicemails wondering what's going on. Offering to be on the first flight home. Yeah, big difference there. What I also found really interesting was that Alternate Pam was able to throw some snark back at Roy. So that version of her has some moxie to her for sure. Makes me wonder what else is in store for Alternate Pam and what's all going to happen.

The final bit about how she'll miss even the ugly clown picture is telling. Moves are always hard for sure. Transitions are challenging. Especially this one. To move away from all the support systems she's known her entire life to somewhere completely new? Yeah, that's a lot to take in. Transitions have never really been Pam's strong points either. Usually she comes through them stronger than when she started, but the process tends to be hard for her. I'm seeing that here in spades.

Going into this one I figured it was going to be rough. That thus Pam didn't call off the wedding seemed to have triggered a whole new series of events for sure. That somethings stayed the same but other are drastically different makes sense. The phone call with Jim going cold, Jim coming back then leaving so soon. Ouch. Makes sense but still ouch. One thing that didn't seem to change is Roy. He's the same guy who takes her for granted at every opportunity. Jerk.

But then to find out she and Roy bought the old Halpert home? Holy crap. No wonder she's stressed out. I mean seriously how many skeletons are in her closet? All in all it seems like a continuation of the previous Pam/Roy relationship. Grand plans that either don't come true or take forever.

What is interesting is the things from the real world that seem to be sneaking through. The burn on her hand and Jim's list of what's really important. Really looking forward to seeing if more things like that will make it through as well and what it'll mean for her.

Also heartbreaking to hear of her difficulties in getting pregnant. Feels again that Roy wasn't any help in the whole thing. Regardless of anything having to go through all that multiple times must have been soul crushing.

Feels like things are going to get a bit worse before they ever get better though.

Pam's mind is really in an odd place. I think that's the best and kindest word I can use too. She's still looking for someone other than Roy to fulfill her need for friendship and validation. Roy clearly isn't giving her either one so she seeks out friendship from Sam. At least she's wise enough to keep things truly platonic this time though. However what's concerning is her idea that the baby will change Roy. That's dangerous thinking to be sure. Roy's had every opportunity to change and hasn't. It kinda feels like someone could just come up and scream in her ear, "actions speak louder than words," and she'd still ignore it. Which is kind of sad to be honest.

There's a few glimmers of hope though. Her remembering a Jim prank from after the Real Jim and Pam got together. The proverbial drawer staying open. They seem small, but I've got a feeling something big is going to start out of something small.

Author's Response:

First off thanks for all your reviews, I appreciate hearing all your thoughts, always. Like you say, Pam is struggling with a lot in this existence and thus the need to compartmentalize (in 360 it was boxes, here it is in drawers) but what happens when they get left opened...we will see...

I'm finding it partially infuriating and partially interesting watching this Pam give Roy chance after chance after chance. Yes this Roy after the dinner party may have been contrite and that did a lot to settle her down. Roy did have his moments of real emotion in canon. He wasn't all dumb brute, just most of the time. So that kind of fits.

However this alternate Pam also seems to still be looking for ways as to why he's wrong for her. Spying on him at the bar. Looking for the phantom note. Trying to figure out why the Travis CD was there also why The Hunted was also also there.

I get the feeling she knows deep down that there's just something off about her life, but she just can't figure out what it is. However she keeps getting hints as the to the reason. His presence may be subtle, but regardless of everything, she's never forgotten about Jim and what he once meant to her. That glimpse of what she once had, still feels like it means more than anything she's ever had with Roy, with the possible exception of her pregnancy. Still hard to figure this one out, which means I'm looking forward to the next chapter.

Roy's still a boorish idiot who doesn't deserve Pam.

I'm really not liking Roy in this world. Mainly because he's still the overgrown teenager I always depicted him as in high school. Just bulldozing through any of Pam's objections, failing to see how he might be the cause of any trouble, gaslighting Pam by saying things like "you were acting all psycho," caring more about a thing than a person, expecting to be forgiven just because. Really can't stand him here.

Some real interesting take away's from Pam's POV though. More and more memories of Jim and also of Real Pam starting to push through. She's getting more clear views about how her life would have been with just a little more courage. Though of course it's growing through trial, especially with that CD and that track list.

Interesting backstory for Steve there. How he eventually grew up, and how Roy didn't. The comparison was quite shocking for sure.

Is is kind of bad that I kind of hope Pam just royally reams Roy out right now? He's let her down so many times he needs to hear it. Maybe she's not quite there yet, but it feels like its coming. Feels like there's progress being made with her for sure.

Well it's an interesting premise by the story description. Feels like some good set up here to get us all acclimated to where we are in the timeline.

I do like that Pam is able to pick up on the subtle signs Jim is giving off before he voices them out loud.

Looking forward to more.

Oof, yeah big shock for Pam and a legit reaction for her. Same with everyone else. Really great that Jim is the first one to clock what's going on with her and the first to offer comfort and support. Regardless of anything that's happened, he still loves her and that's never changed. Kind of a call to action here right now, so that is a big thing for sure.

So what's going to happen going forward? Karen is still in the picture and saw all that I'm sure. Likewise how will Jim and Pam navigate all of this? Looking foward to finding out.

Author's Response: Thanks for your reviews. I have a number of chapters still in mind. I'm not very busy right now, but that'll change soon, so maybe I can get another chapter in tomorrow. :-)

Nice little bit of clarity from Phyllis there. Sometimes we just need a little push. That felt more than a little. Though now with getting to the reality of dealing with William's passing, it'll be interesting to see if Pam remembers that promise she made.

Author's Response: She'll remember. It'll be a little later.

Some quiet and tender moments here. Jim's doing a really good job just being a steady presence for her right now. Good for him for not taking advantage of a vulnerable time in her life right now. It's probably the biggest thing she needs. A bit of realization on his part there too.

I do feel for the Beasly ladies right now. To lose William so close to Christmas is going to cut deep for sure.

Author's Response: Yeah, I don't want any sexual tension between them in this story. That just doesn't feel right.

Reviewer: warrior4 Signed 1
Date: November 17, 2023 Title: Chapter 5: Last Christmas

So getting some of the practical things out of the way to start things off. Then kind of surprise that Jim gets the invite to Pam's apartment. Even bigger surprise that she asks him to spend the night. I do kind of get it though. She's been through a lot and not having to deal with it alone makes sense.

Then Jim and Karen break up. I would have been surprised if there hadn't been some tension between Jim and Karen. Her boyfriend just leaves with a woman that to Karen's mind is just a co-worker and maybe kind of a friend. But of course the rumor mill back at DM probably started flying and Karen probably got a bit more of the story. So yeah they hash it out. At least Jim is finally starting to be honest about it all.

Then some HUGE revelations from both of them. Kind of feels like a Hallmark movie cliche kind of thing, but I'll take it. They both got some needed perspective and realization that we don't really know how much time we have together so make the most of it while you can. Nice to see that coming out.

Author's Response: I didn't focus too much on the Jim/Karen dynamic, because I feel like at this point they've only been together about a month. On the other hand, he's been in love with Pam for years. Some of my dialogue and actions in this story come from personal experience. I've lost a number of people close to me over the years and fan fiction helps me to deal with grieving.

I get the conflicted emotions for both of them. Sadness due to the passing of William, but joy in finally getting together. Yet when they head over to the Beasly house, it's a lot to take in. Especially with the parade of people coming through. Seems very reasonable she'd want some time to herself. Good on Jim for going off to find her. Then he just sits with her and holds her. Probably the most loving thing he could do, just be there so she knows she's not alone. Nice job.

Author's Response: Thanks for your comments!

Feels like a nice transition chapter. They've had to endure some big emotions as of late. Here they get a chance to calm down and just be with each other. I like that they start setting plans with each other while also keeping plans with their families. Shows that they're keeping priorities and I'm here for it. A nice evening in of take out and movies was very nice to envision. Same with them falling asleep together again.

Kind of figured that the actual day of Christmas without William would be hard on Pam and her family. That we didn't see it directly was nice tool to view that through.

William's letter to Pam was so tender. One can very much feel his love and pride as a father. His hopes for her and the devotion he wants to bring to her life. Very touching scene there for sure.

Wonderful that Jim is now the man in her life to help her get through all this. I couldn't think of anyone who would be better able to help her navigate this time. Great job in showing all of that.

Nice little blurb there about the after effects of Casino Night for sure. The lyrics fit in well too. I kinda figured Helene would want to know what happened after Pam let her go so quickly. I do like that Pam is seeking out her help in a time of her life that's so chaotic. Methinks she'll be heading back to her mom quite a bit for the next year too. After all this is the start of a very messy time for her and for Jim. Still it's good that she's finally gotten some perspective on things. Nice job.

As a graduate of Calvin College I feel like I should have some form of objection to the namesake of my Alma Mater used in such a fashion. However, I don't. Not sure if that says anything about me or my Calvinistic roots, but also, it's a fanfiction story and it was a joke. Regardless I digress.

I liked this look into this kind of world. Soulmates being real but not everyone has one is a really fun concept to think about. Also since not everyone has a soulmate most go to all these lengths to not even know one way or the other is also fascinating to think about.

Nice to think that it was on Casino Night that Pam and Jim finally find out about each other like this. Not quite written IN the stars, but written BY the stars? Still lots of fun.

I do feel kind of bad for Roy. Not only getting dumped, but getting dumped because Pam found her soulmate and he doesn't have one. Yeah, it would be rough on the guy.

Always wonderful to see something new from you. Thanks for this one.

Starts out a little forlorn, but ends up hopeful. Yes Jim is with Karen, for now, but he's turning to acknowledge her, using the Beesly endearment, and when she's in a bit of spot he's right there for her. That's a few hopeful spots too.

However I also like that Pam is starting to do things for her right now. She's being an active agent in her own life. Not trying to impress anyone, win anyone back, or put up with anyone. She's starting to glow a bit. Methinks someone else might notice said glow, or at least I hope he does. A Roy can stay down in his warehouse with his humbug attitude if you ask me as well.

Can't wait to read more.

So this is just all sorts of sweet. I love that Pam first spends time for herself. Getting some new festive attire and all. The mention of the dress feels like an important but of foreshadowing.

Then the tree farm. Looks at Jim being a good son. Being there for his family. I loved the images of them strolling up and down the rows bantering back and forth. There's still the specter of Karen weighing things down, but that weight doesn't seem so heavy. Jim saying it was good to be back feels like a variation of the aftermath of the Beach Games speech. Just fast forwarded a bit. I'm 100% here for it.

Then Jim not only bringing her the first ornament for the tree, but that one?! Lots of steps in the right direction for sure. Wonderful all the way around.

Author's Response:

Ahh you picked up on the dress did you ;)

Glad you liked the ornament! And the stroll around the farm. Kinda killed me not to go into all the detail of their conversation, but I'm trying to keep this fic on the short side. It's very hard!! Twss!

Thanks for the review, so happy you're enjoying this!

Reviewer: warrior4 Signed 1
Date: December 20, 2023 Title: Chapter 3: Jim-gerbread Man and Pam-cake

It's like the universe is sending her and Jim all these signs that they should be together. Despite what Kelly wants, it feels like it's Pam and Jim who are in the middle of a Hallmark Christmas movie. All Jim needs now is to put on a red flannel shirt at some point.

A couple things I picked up on though. Jim doesn't have a tree, which means he and Karen didn't spend any time at his place decorating a tree. Also Karen kind of flaked on him here. To not even offer him a ride back when she has to break off the date like that? Seems kind of suspicious.

I'm also kind of with Pam a little here. Jim's getting back to normal, friend-wise, but she still has the memory of him saying "I'm in love with you," bouncing around in her mind. Also she clearly wants more than friendship. I doubt it's 100% intentional, but it does feel like Jim's kind of leading her on a bit considering they haven't really hashed out their unresolved issues. Which of course is where I imagine Pam's feelings of conflicted feelings are coming from too. Great job in the writing to bring all that out in a fairly short chapter.

Really looking forward to seeing how it all plays out. My bet is that Karen sees that picture and puts 2 and 2 together. Remains to be seen though.

Author's Response:

Oh a red flannel shirt, that's not a bad idea!

Jim doesn't have a tree, good spot on that one :)

Jim is definitely giving off mixed signals and confusing Pam's all over the place. Maybe he needs to go on the naughty list this year. And thank you! I find it so hard to write briefly and have really tried to keep this one short, so glad it's all coming out ok!

Lots more to come! Thanks so much for the review and so happy you're enjoying it!

Oh, I feel for Pam right here. She wants to be happy, but things are just kind of miserable for her. Things started out during this bucket list trek really well, but now a few days of reality hit hard. There a couple reasons to have slim hope though. Jim is still being friendly to her which is always nice. I hesitate to say it's nice that Jim and Karen are fighting, but clearly there's tension in that relationship.

Jim giving her that playlist hit hard though. She's still getting tons of mixed signals from him. Or at least it feels like mixed signals. Hopefully some of those will get cleared up soon.

Author's Response: I'm sure things are going to get better for these two. It's one of my fics, it has to right??
