Super late to this party...

I’ve loved The Office for a few years now & have dabbled in fic for other fandoms. Deep in another rewatch, I thought there’s got to be some amazing fic out there for arguably one of the greatest shows of all time & here I am - potentially attempting to devour the MTT archive in its entirety?

If I manage to stop reading for long enough, I may attempt to add a few ideas of my own. Time will tell.

Edit May 19: Understandably, I've fallen head over heels with this archive and all that it offers. I've started a Fic Rec Friday thread on Twitter, where I enthuse about the many stories that have brought me joy. So, I'm just putting it out there if you'd like to stop by and have a look. I'm also super open if you have any suggestions that you think should be added/are must reads...

I don’t know when this became my new favorite rom-com. Actually, scratch that - I know exactly when... Pam adding no. 6 to the to do list! My rom-com, trope adoring heart is full.
I love the list. I love Pam striking “don’t get killed” from the list. I am a list person. The whole list inclusion spoke to my soul (not to be too melodramatic...)
The taser line - this Pam is a little Veronica Mars in the best way & I love her all the more for it. (I feel like I’ve said that before? Maybe? But I stand by it, so it’s worth repeating).
If Jim breaks Pam’s trust I will be devastated. Just a heads up...
This whole “what would Jim Halpert hate the most” passage made my day. A brilliant Pam quip.

Oh, one last thing... I’m sorry, I don’t buy a world in which Pam is allergic to cats AND friends with Angela. Doesn’t seem likely 😂

Hello. Hi. I am SO excite.
“For too many years, I saw it.” Okay, so Helene is more perceptive that I gave her credit. I love that she’s challenging Pam on this. It’s such a mother move.
If she has to make out with Jim to prove something to her mother, I’m not going to be mad...
You’re throwing me into remembering why I love this version of Pam so much. She’s got that extra bit of Fancy New Beesly sass and she shows it in spades here with the way she handles Helene.

“Jesus, look at him. Think he’d switch places with his brother? I’d marry him in an instant.”
“See, about that…”
I want to copy this whole entire thing and be like this, this is my favorite. But that would be insane, but like *this*, this is it. It’s perfect. Same, Penny, same.

“You’re prettier than Katy.” Finally someone gets it. Sign me up to team Betsy.
Why does Pam giving tea as her drink of choice do something to me? It’s fine. It’s the most simple of canon choices and I love to see it so much.

“I’m not just saying that because you’re the first girl he’s ever brought home to meet me.” Oh stop. Do I love Betsy? I think I do. It’s such a contrast to Helene.

“Pam had to bite back a laugh over the fact that she’d found herself on the receiving end of two women with knives that evening and Jim’s beloved security was nowhere to be found.” Coley. You write the words so well. I love this tinge of humor. It’s perfect.

Damn. It’s so good. That little slip from Betsy with NYU and Pam just acing it.

Oh. Oh. Okay. I got the mother wrong, but still the same brilliant, delightfully trope-y plan.
“Just wait until my mother isn’t watching.” PERFECT.

OH. You’re just going to put that final line in there and assume we’re okay. It’s fine. I’m fine. Everything is fine.

If we’re still here?! Coley. COLEY. It goes without saying, but I will always be 110% here for anything you do.

Oh. My. God. All the references! The bread! Literally everything that’s been mentioned on Twitter over the past few weeks! This was amazing!

(& I’m in a rush to get to work so this is a very compressed review). But, I’m seriously impressed with everything you slipped into this!

Author's Response: Thanks Jenna. I had the MTT twitter feed up while I was writing this which made getting all those references a lot easier. I'm glad you liked it so much.

“We’re friends,” she says, and it is the only true thing she can bear to admit in this moment. The only true thing she thinks he could hear without being lost to her forever. “We’ll always be friends.”

First of all, I loved this & second of all I LOVED this. The premise is great, Jim moving across the hall from Pam is a twist on The Merger that I am 100% here for.
The angst is amazing, in that way only good, well-written angst can be. The throwback “date” in this chapter hurt so good.
I can’t wait to see where you take this!

Definitely don’t apologize for Jim forgetting his phone, it really paid off for all of us reading your story. I don’t really care how you get us there, as long as you get us there! Looking forward to the next installment!

Summary: Story starts on the Booze Cruise – Jim tells Pam about his feelings sooner and less dramatically, but it rocks her world. Confusion, feelings, and THOUGHTS ensue. The song “Stay” by Rihanna came into my head and wouldn’t leave while I was writing, hence the titles.

Oh Jim. It’s a fine line he’s walking, trying to be her friend and so much more at the same time, without overstepping anything. I love this. I love the premise, of Jim actually speaking in that moment on the Booze Cruise. It’s probably the hardest time for Pam to hear it in a way, because it’s the most enthusiasm Roy has shown for their relationship up until this point. It would make it so much trickier to leave him I would think, to actually feel like Roy is in this in this moment... Any other time it would be so much easier to cast Roy aside and move forward with Jim - not easy, but easier. I’m looking forward to seeing where you go with this!

Author's Response: Thank you! Yup, Jim knows how to pick his moments.

First of all, thank you for essentially forcing me to imagine Jim showering at multiple junctures in this story!
The line about Friday was far too real. It really is a special brand of energy.
I really enjoyed this chapter, Pam weighing things up felt genuine. The addition of her mother not liking Roy, & asking about Jim was great. I feel like it would be pretty natural for a mother to feel that way based on Roy’s general Roy-ness & I’m sure Pam would speak fondly of Jim to her mom,
Looking forward to what comes next!

Author's Response: Darn it, I gave Coley the response I meant to give you. Let me summarize: Jim showering=GOOD!

Wow. What a chapter! I’m always here for a Pam/Roy break up & this felt very natural. I don’t think Roy’s an idiot, but I’m not sure he’s quite in tune enough to notice the thing with Jim... But the again, maybe he is? I liked the inclusion here. It works. I’m concerned to see what happens if Roy clues on to Pam staying with Jim, or anything else in future - I don’t see too positive a reaction occurring there. That said, I enjoy a good fic confrontation so if that’s where you go, I am on board!
I could feel the Pam/Jim chemistry spilling off the page. You write it so well. I was so excited to see you had updated!

I love that Pam needs to kind of find herself & be herself & square things up with Roy before jumping into this thing with Jim. I love that she’s also kind of jumping into this thing with Jim regardless and there’s that understanding between them of all the things to come.
I’m glad Roy has kind of softened for now & trying to be a better version of himself than angry-Roy. In typical Roy form it seems it’s too little, too late.
I can’t wait to see what you have in store next for our favorite pair. There’s such a nice balance of sweetness and tension in this story.

Author's Response: Thank you!

This was a fun read! I struggle a little with stories written in the first person, so that put me off a bit. But, the chemistry/tension was great! I’m annoyed that Phyllis coughed and ruined the moment - typical.

Summary:

She wonders why it is so hard for her to be happy these days. She wonders why it takes her so long to fall asleep, and when she does she tosses around dreams of the office and Jell-O and Jim. She wonders why it has been so easy for her to ignore the swelling of her heart that makes it feel like her chest is going to explode. She wonders why her skin comes alive for Jim but never for Roy. And she wonders why it was so easy for her to nod and push him away, when she knows she should have just pulled him back in and let herself drown in him forever.

I did not expect to be attacked by so many JAM feelings this early in the morning... This was a lovely balance of fluff and fluff. As always, I love the little details you include, i.e. the spelling of Pam’s name. Way to fix that little hiccup.
It was great to see them rewatch it together at home, with the discussion of different highlights. I always enjoy seeing a version of the teapot letter, and this was no exception. Although, I don’t quite see Jim being that articulate with his feelings that early on. That’s the beauty of the cast never telling us what was in there though, we really don’t have any idea so it’s super open for interpretation.
I like this writing cycle that you’re on! The more one shots & Silver Wings the merrier!

Author's Response: Thanks Jenna. The wording of the letter comes out of my earlier story "This Thing Called Life," where Jim had already gone through some rough drafts and enlisted the help of his sister before settling on the final outcome. Also in this timeline Jim had known Pam (at Dunder-Mifflin at least) for a few years by the time he wrote the note.

I'm glad you liked it. For me it's a lot of fun to find the little things and work them into fics.

It’s nice to see the judgey Angela that feels so in character, but then to have that redemptive sort of moment where she leans into an apology of sorts... Damn. Ooof. Pam and Jim on the floor?! Him gripping her closer in his sleep?! Please. I can’t deal with this perfection.
