A lovely and funny Christmas story that despite not ending how I expected was still very satisfying.

Very clever in how you had them picking each other's similar gifts even though they hadn't chosen each other. Especially in the was you worked out how Phyllis would wind up ceeding the job to Pam (with a knowing smile).

YOur Michael is very Michael, with his gift ideas but especially in how he does the snow angels. And not only did you tie in the homemade presents but made Pam's allegorical to her relationship. Nice job with that.

Pam and Jim playing in the snow is just delightful. And that kiss at the end - even if not the one expected, it still warmed my heart.

Happy holidays.

Always enjoy a story with a bit of mysticism in it, especially when it offers the kind of subconscious hope it gave to Jim. Nice job with this one.

Author's Response: Thanks Max! I'm not much for the supernatural (a bit of a skeptic TBH) but I really wanted to write something with a vague hint of a Christmas Carol without it actually being a Christmas carol, or similarly It's a Wonderful Life. I wanted Mrs Frobisher to have a little hint of Clarence in this story as that enabler to help Jim have his happy ending (bit of an innuendo there but you know what I mean :D)

I'm loving all the little references you are slipping in..the white sneakers, the basketball and mostly their ability to talk non-verbally. And I love how Jim is a kind soul even if he is a bit of a prankster - or at least to her he is patient and kind.

Author's Response: Thank you, I love putting in the little things and I love that some of y’all time the time to notice them!

Pam’s quiet spoke a thousand words, and he loved reading between her layers and the reward of her smile when she felt understood. This was a great line.

I see you are setting up a little jam roadblock. But hoping Jim listens to his own voice soon rather than that of the crowd.

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I’m so glad you like the line! Don’t fear too much!

Summary:

She was totally overthinking borrowing gloves. It's just that they were from a friend that she absolutely, definitely, had a secret crush on that she was trying very hard to suppress.

Totally can see this- Dwight watching her, and sensing what could happen. How else had he been able to react so fast with the pepper spray...also that he would keep watch by her house all night.

Nice job!

Author's Response:

Thank you 💜

Dwight may be an 'odd' one but he is loyal to the core and he showed his true colors when he saw her crying in the hall and immediately demanded "where is he"..... I adore him being her staunch protector.

I'd never thought much about sides of the bed, until now, even though I've had 'my side' for decades even through two moves. But we like to switch it up on vacations. (maybe your chapter 2? )

This was a cute take on how Jam got their sides. I like the image of Pam jumping over Jim.

Fun!

Nothing like a heated session of angry truths to be engage all the pent up desire these two have for each other. Getting shades of Fleetwood Mac and Daisy Jones as Jim accuses her of a Karaoke attack. And her line "I was doing Karaoke..." - loved that.

You did well at having them get to much of what they hadn't been able to say before... the lines about giving her no time to process and the waiting in particular. Now it is odd to hear Jim curse (but only because its a non-no on network so not used to it) but it seems like a natural response when trying not to act on what eventually happens anyway.

A terrible mess indeed but one we are all waiting for.

Author's Response: Awww Max, you know I absolutely LOVED Daisy Jones and The Six, and I'm a FM fan as well (lucky enough to see the full original line up at the O2 in London in 2014, before people were sacked or died.)

I don't think this is anything not seen in fics before but this feels like an appropriate fix to right a writers' wrong I always felt was done at Phyllis's wedding and beyond.

Sorry it took me so long to read and review but hey, it took you a while to post it up -and I'm so glad you did because I really enjoyed reading it.

Nice, (Kevin voice) this look at a Pam who had gone from rueful and apologetic about the Roy attack of Jim to feisty and loud (at least while singing). Picked up on the dual use by them both of "sophisticated fun" - yup sounds right.

Well done with the internal dialogue starting with 'Poke the wasps’ nest, Jim.' during their confrontation.

Yikes - what's gonna happen now? This should be interesting with a very heated Jam going into next chapter.

Author's Response: Thanks Max! Read the appropriate bit in a Kevin voice :D I really feel that after Phyllis's wedding something clicked for Pam and it was the final piece for her to work out who she was. Some big stuff in chapter 2...

Yeah sounds just about right Jim being ready to flee again. But I loved the 'when versus if' observation. Very telling...I'm glad Pam said her bit about him not misinterpreting but more glad Jim has Mark in his ear, telling him what is clearly right in front of him ...but because after CN he put on blinders and he can't see it. Go Mark...now where are they going?

Author's Response: Thanks Max, all will become clear very soon…(and it may not be where you expect… no DM parking lots involved, haha)

Enjoyed getting the scene where she exchanges the gifts. Things go downhill fast after that except that maybe they don't as Pam comes to some realizations.

Of course Roy sees the iPod as theirs. If he sees Pam as his property then it follows that all that she has is his too.

She's being swallowed in her life with Roy - evidenced by the lack of signs of her in the apartment.

That in comparing two very different men, it's easy to see which one truly cares about her and he's not the one she is with...or was with. Glad she's escaping that.

(got a kick out of Kenny winding up in jail too, ha ha)

Looking forward to what's in store at Santa's workshop

Author's Response: I think when she got the Teapot and then came to the realization that she needed to trade back for it, Pam was primed to realize which guy was really the best guy in her life. However, in canon before she could really act on those feelings Roy set a date and her real feelings got swept under the rug of wedding planning. So when things don't go like that, yup it all goes downhill quick. Great job picking up on that.

I'll sometimes redeem Roy, but Kenny will forever be an idiot in my writings. Same with Packer who got his well deserved punch in the jaw.

As a one time New Yorker, I have a feeling you'll enjoy what's coming at Santa's. Always love hearing from you.

What a fun trip to Santa's Village. Never been nor did I even know about it but it sounds like a fun place for kids and for kids at heart (and Jim is a pretty big one of these - strange however how he doesn't like to dress in costumes).

But first - the inner thoughts on the way were well done. Having them share the driving was a smart way to fit that in - plus gotta think that while Roy would want to drive the whole way to anywhere they went -he would make Pam stay up with him - right?

Always enjoy a good prank and the gnome traveling with a kidnapped bobblehead is a good one. Also enjoyed the real versus artificial tree debate.

So there won't be a casino night confession now so I appreciated how you used the lines here instead.

To end with a blizzard and a one room situation - the next chapter should be quite interesting.

Author's Response: Santa's Village is kind of a small place so no worries if you've never heard of it. It's in the Lake Placid/Whiteface Mt. area if that helps at all. Considering Pam is the one taking him there, I figure Jim's ready and willing to follow her. Especially after her reveal in the car. I'm sure Roy would want to drive since to his mind, no one else would know how to drive or some other thing. Roy might let Pam sleep. After all if Pam is awake she'd want to talk to him, and it seems that's not really something Roy is very interested in, listening to Pam. Good thing Jim is cut from a very different cloth.

Loved adding the bits of fun like the gnome and tree debate while they're exploring the village. JAM banter can be tricky so I'm glad you liked it. Same with repurposing canon lines. The fun thing about AU is you can use the same lines, but twist them to mean different things. Always fun to do that.

Glad you're looking forward to the next chapter. So am I. Thanks as ever for the review.

Nice to get a last chapter for this one. I can picture and hear the oral diary entries - nice way to have them express some feelings to each other under the guise of play. Got some strong butterfly on my shoulder vibes in the closing scene of that paragraph.

Now the Roy's sister angle is not one I've seen done, but would make sense (like how she's slightly estranged from her selfish family) and like how you wrote it.

And here's where the one room/one bed plot pays off - nice way to end this one (while having her have some space and time in the relationship at large).

Author's Response: Jim and Pam almost always have fun together. So the fake journal entries seemed a great way to explore that. Glad you liked them. I've toyed with bringing in the idea that Roy's sister doesn't approve of Roy in the past. I'm glad it landed well with you. Same with the ending of this one. After a decent amount of soul searching, why not just reach out for what you really want? Life's short, eat dessert first. Wonderful to hear from you as always.

Welcome and nice job on this perspective of Jim and Pam's feelings before and during Casino night. Very much enjoyed where you added scenes and filled out others (the one with the photos stood out for me, always love seeing new little details as did the reaction Jim had to her platitudes and how they cheapened their whole relationship - "the you have no idea speech", as well as the chat with her mom).

Appreciate the circularity in how he thinks to take the photo. And how you explained/wrote the way he intended to tell her about the move but what came out instead was well done.

Glad to catch this when I did (with some extra time to read a new story) and enjoyed a new voice here.

Also interested to see what you'll do going forward - will you tackle all of Season 3? Hope to see more added elements of the things we didn't see (ie photos)

Author's Response: thanks so much for reading and leaving a review! as for tackling all of season 3, i'm not sure just yet--i am really interested in writing about jim and pam's thought process throughout the early seasons, so I might flip wildly back and forth between different episodes/time periods.

Great job getting the elements in there too (some of mine were on your list) and visions of Pam and Jim happily enjoying the holiday and the fireplace always a good read.

So first- Betsy, I love stories with her because I too have "grown-up," boys and relate to the mother-son relationship. The chat here with Betsy felt very true. The co-workers bits were a lot of fun. and Roy - it didn't take long for Jim to figure him out as the oaf that doesn't deserve her.

As for next chapter - not sure what you can do with it but second chances could be a theme.

I think you are right, there had to be more than just one "teapot note", there must of been many times Jim must have tried to put his thoughts down to paper even if they would never be shared anywhere besides the box. I enjoyed this take on it and how the box got passed around. Now I'm a bit surprised that temptation never got to any of the possessors but hey it's your story...and I'm glad WE got to see some of the other notes -both before and after they get together.

And I just loved the line about losing his dream -
“Lose her? She’s right here. And I’m never letting go of her.”

Nice job with this first story.
