Nooo!  Leave the curtains open!

OK, it took me a while to compose my thoughts and give a proper review.  So many lines that jumped out at me.

waiting for some kind of explanation besides “I can’t” (and boy, does he regret those words the second they’re past his lips)
and
he needs to catch her at the office, at her desk, in the break room, in the lobby, anywhere but that goddamn parking lot.  A-freaking-MEN!  To both of those thoughts.  Glad to hear that Jim thinks like many of us do on the whole PLoD issue.

when Jim blows the whole farce wide open with “it’s a date.”  Yeah, I wasn't buying that 'everything will be fine' story from Pam.  She was still trying to convince herself of that. IMHO.

touching Pam’s hand across a table (without making excuses about palm reading or eight thousand other reasons he’s found over the years to make physical contact without crossing the line) yup, you just described most of season two there.  So transparent.

Just in case the evening plays out like she hopes it will.  Love this glimpse into Pam's (slightly) dirty mind.  C'mon, it's Jim!  You know she wants to jump him!!

“Pam, I only know how to be me. I tried being someone else, and it didn’t work.”   And that is season three in a nutshell.

Also, I love when the documentary crew are a factor in the story -- and the whole device of hiding from them -- and Jim's naked (pixelated) ass on the screen.  Yeah.  Comedy gold.   I love so much about what this story chooses to be  ;o)

Author's Response: Thank you so so so much for the awesome review! Wow! You nailed some of my favourite parts. Yes...TWSS. I love so much about what you choose to be, lisahoo.

there’s a stab of terror in his chest at the thought of seeing his own naked ass in a documentary

Okay, now I have to go explain to my boss why I am laughing so loud, because I'm supposed to be, you know, working here. But I could just imagine the look of frozen shock on Jim's face as that thought occurred to him!

This is a wonderfully sweet and tender story, and while I would have loved to see more of what went on after Pam answered the door half-dressed, I can't complain because you did the rest of it so nicely. Lovely work, as always, and as always, a delight to read! Thanks for sharing this.

You have gotten this down pat.  The tense/pressure (will Jim be able to leave Michael's wrath and still get his date?  Will they remember to close the curtains this time?)

And that Pam sure is a crafty one.  The old zipping up the dress technique.  Very nice ;)

And I love how despite the fact that they had just been together they're still insanely nervous and cute when they're going to eat at the diner.

And they never got around to eating dinner did they? ha.  Oops. I guess food just really isn't a necessity when you're with Jim! :) Great job Paper Jam!  I loved it oh so much!

Author's Response:

But they did eat dinner! At the diner! (Did I read it wrong???)

I'm so glad you loved it! Thanks!

Wow! Great job. I think your take on what happens immediately after "it's a date" just might be my favorite. You should write about Dwight and Andy's Dunder Mifflin Sleepover! I really loved this line:

His chest contracts painfully as he pictures touching Pam’s hand across a table (without making excuses about palm reading or eight thousand other reasons he’s found over the years to make physical contact without crossing the line).

Thanks for an enjoyable read...and for getting "Under Pressure" stuck in my head :-P

Okay, now that's a brilliant idea. *taps chin thoughtfully* Hmmm. I'm not sorry I got that song stuck in your head, because it's awesome. And it could be much worse.  Thanks so much for the great comment, supersudzgirl!

This was all kinds of fabulous! Just when you thought the "date" had been already told to death, you come along and give new life to it! So many lovely images in here, from "second chances that could be last chances," to the fact that they wind up at the camera crew's favorite hangout. Just loved it all the way around.

Oh, and when Vanilla Ice is roasting in the fires of Hades for ripping of "Under Pressure," he can play tennis with MC Hammer for ripping off "Super Freak." :)

Author's Response:

All kinds of fabulous is one of my favourite compliments, ever. Thanks! I'm so glad it felt "new", because the idea stuck with me, but I didn't want to it be same old, same old.

Maybe there is a special ring of hell, reserved for those who crappily rip off music and people who talk at the theatre? Perhaps Rhianna can be Hammer and Ice's ball girl, for putting forth the "Wanna Be Startin' Something" ripoff atrocity currently sweeping the nation.

My heart was pounding the whole time I was reading this story!  Wow!  You absolutely achieved your goal.  I felt the pressure. Oh--and I love that song (by Queen/David Bowie, not Vanilla Ice.)  You also did an amazing job with Jim and Pam.  Totally believable and so them the entire way.  I know this is a one-shot, but I hope you'll write more like this!

Author's Response: Thank you so much, Abigail! If you like this, you should probably check out Babylon. It's kind of similar. I'm very slow, so I wouldn't expect something new from me anytime soon. Thanks for commenting!

Love the changes you've made.  You rocked this story, my dear.  A really entertaining first date fic! :)

Author's Response: Thank you so much for your great advice (as always). Judging by the reviews, you knew exactly what needed fixing. Love!

This was excellent.  A very different take on the first date.

Kudos!
