The conference room door closed with the softest of
clicks, it was all too familiar, but this one was filled
with a glimmer of hope, any sign of heartache
demolished. Her green eyes blurred with water, like a
window on a rainy morning, right before the rainbow.
Biting her bottom lip, something she usually did in
overwhelming nervousness, a smile of utter and complete
happiness over took her face and she fought the urge to
breakdown in sobs of joy. Memories clouded her mind.
Remembering gold medals, hot sauce packets, and
confessions of love. Twirling her necklace, her arms
tingled, wanting nothing more than to throw them in the
air, shouting finally! Her reflection gleamed in the
camera lens, and the sun shown through the cracks in the
blinds. She lost her voice somewhere in the thumping of
her heart and forced herself to swallow before
remembering she was in an interview. And
underneath, “I’m sorry, what was the question?” was “I
have a date tonight, with Jim.” Her life was suddenly
put into perspective, and she knew the life included the
guy who pushed his sleeves up because it was more
comfortable, loved jelly beans, and most importantly
loved her. She could see terraces, curly haired little
girls, and forever’s. Pam Beasley was finally happy,
finally.
