Hmm...I started reading X-Files fanfic about 10 years ago (yikes!) and consider myself quite the aficianado, having read everything from the cringe-worthy horrible to the breathtakingly amazing. I "retired" from reading fanfic about four years ago, when my "real" life started to kick into gear (fell in love, got married, etc.), but have since discovered a little show about a paper company in Scranton, PA. I knew it was all over when I discovered MTT, and I was quickly sucked into the world of Jim and Pam. Reading fanfic is now one of my greatest guilty pleasures again, and I've finally started to dip my toes into writing some, too.

Hi, Callisto...
Loving this series so far. So very Pam and Jim as I would like to think of them away from the office. I always associated "Building a Mystery" with Mulder from XF, but it could fit Jim, as well, though I hope he is not as
f---ed up as Mulder. Anyway, awesome once again, and patiently awaiting more "Taking a Chance" (not so subtle hint, hint :-)

Author's Response: Hey Mountaineers, good to hear from you again! I certainly don\'t think Jim is as f-ed up as Mulder, but there\'s a lot to work with in that song... anyway, I\'m glad you\'re enjoying it. Subtle hint taken; I just haven\'t decided where I want to go with that one and I don\'t want to force it, but maybe I\'ll get back to it when I\'m done with this. In any case, thanks for reading and leaving your thoughts. I appreciate it. :)

I mean this an a very un-stalker-like way, but my heart always skips a beat when I open up the "recent" page and I see a new story from you, Stablergirl. I have enjoyed every one of your works, so please keep up the excellent writing. It's a very long summer waiting for September.

Hi, Stablergirl,
Definitely on board with this one. I don't think I will ever tire of early-in-the-relationship stories. Since we were robbed of seeing it happen during the series, it leaves so much interpretation to the creative forces, such as yourself, and I love all of the different authors' takes on how J/P got their start. In the case of this story, I really love the hesitation on both of their parts to not advance the romance physically at first. Don't get me wrong, I like a good smut-fest where they fall into bed on the first date, but I think it keeps more with the characters that they did take it slow at first. It's very like Jim and Pam to be cautious and nervous around each other at first, then fall gently and naturally into the love that they now share. Excellent.

Ugh! (in a good way ;-) This chapter just about killed me. I really almost cried. I think it brought out all of my anxiety and angst from S3. At least in real life, for the completely fictional characters, the worst is over. Right? Right? Back to happy now, please? Happy, engaged, wedding, love, Jambabies? Hmm?
Just kidding. Good one, Talk.

Author's Response: Hey, Mountaineer, I\'m afraid I\'m going to torture them for one more chapter. Sick, I know, but kinda fun at the same time. Thanks for your review. I\'ll make sure to stuff some Kleenex in the bottom of the next chapter.

I really like this story so far, Talk. I think it's very realistic of the characters, and interesting to see how these little pieces of their history fall into place. I'm guessing this chapter took place pretty early on in their friendship. Poor Jim. I wish we could tell him it works out in the end.

Author's Response: From a timeline standpoint, this takes place after the cameras arrive (as mentioned in the story), but well before Christmas 2005. And, yeah, poor, poor Jim. But he\'ll be okay in the end. I\'m glad you like it, Mountaineers. Thank you for your review.

Hi, Sweetpea!
I'm a big fan of your work, especially "Allentown," but I just wanted to say how much I'm loving this story so far. Usually, a /other isn't my cup of tea, since it gives me unsettling feelings to think that Pam or Jim could actually be that in love wiht someone else (I guess that's why it's fiction), but there were so many glowing reviews on the MB that I had to check your story out. The Jim in this story is so believable as the dorky/hot guy teacher in HS that everyone had (except me). Unfortunately, my high school teachers were mostly crotchety old ladies, but once I got to college, profs like these sprung up everywhere. I'm glad I decided to read, and I can't wait to see where it's going. Please update soon!

Author's Response: Hey, Mountaineers!  So nice to see you here again!  You know, it's a great compliment when someone says 'normally I don't like this kind of thing, but...' so thank you very much for that!  I've really loved writing this story and I think it's going to be one more chapter and a short epilogue to bring it home.  I hope you keep reading and thank you so much for commenting!

I'm really enjoying this one, Binxbaby. It's at times both painfully sad and totally joyous to experience. And I'll say what I say in my reviews for every fic that I read that contains it -- my absolute favorite thing that "fic" Jim does that the "real" Jim has never done -- call Pam "Bees." I think it is the most endearing thing ever, and if it ever happened on the actual show, I think I might cry tears of joy. And hey, I love that Natalie Portman movie, even if they do get married at Wal-Mart :-)

Summary: Scranton, Pennsylvania, home to 28-year old receptionist, Pam Beesly. Pam’s array of plain, button-down shirts, drab skirts, and clunky boots make her bright and artistic personality fade into the background. Her coworkers have called in stylists Clinton Kelly and Stacy London to inject some life into her dreary duds, but will Pam be able to deal with the price of fashion? It will be style rejuvenation as Pam learns What Not To Wear.

I like how you pointed out the obvious undertones of the episode of how much Pam really does miss the little things about being in Scranton. I was reading an article yesterday about couples and their, um, bathroom habits -- you know, what they're comfortable doing in front of the other, etc., and my little fangirl brain thought, "I wonder what Jim and Pam do in this situation?" The one part of this story kind of addresses that. It's good to see that embarassing moments like this don't just happen to me.

Okay, can you do me a favor, LC? Write like 49 more chapters of this story, please? So please, more more more more more! Okay, now that I am officially a raving lunatic, just letting you know that I thoroughly enjoyed this chapter. Not that I haven't enjoyed the others -- I just always love seeing Jim as this family-type guy that we all know he is. So, yep. If I'm going to invest painful time at the computer, at least it's worth my while.

Okay, so you and I must be on the same wavelength, 'cause Conan's totally on my list, too! There's just something about him. And also the fictional character Jim Halpert is probably at the top of said list, but I guess we shouldn't delve into my years-long, deep psychological issue of "listing" guys from TV shows. Fox Mulder, Michael Bluth, Jim, etc. It's a gross obsession. My husband understands, but his list contains Alyssa Milano (the Charmed years) and Jennifer Aniston, so I don't let him live those down, either. :-)But did I mention that I also have a rather unhealthy obsession for reading stories about certain fictional TV characters, so thanks for updating so soon!

Author's Response: Thanks for reviewing so quickly! :) Yeah, I also love Conan, and when I gave it some thought I kind of thought Pam might too. And fictional characters...? They have a lot of appeal; what can I say? ;)

Finally, the origin of the heart necklace! Until otherwise confirmed on the show, I'll take this as canon. I've missed this story -- I was just thinking the other day of how it's been a while between updates. (Maybe if I stopped thinking about fanfic so much, I'd be more productive in my actual life. Nah.) And anything with Jim, Pam and Ralph Wiggum is an automatic 10 in my book, so great chapter. You know Jim totally went overboard their first V-Day (and birthday, Christmas, etc.), so this is very fitting. I'm lucky if I can get my husband to call and make a reservation. :-) He's not so bad, though.

Author's Response: Ooo, I made canon! WOW! Thanks a lot! I\'m really glad you liked this and I always love your fun, funNY reviews. :)

But it's definitely something Jim would keep and Pam would love if she ever got to read it. I followed the link to the card, and it's absolutely hilarious.
