My heart is breaking in three different places: one for Pam seeing who Jim really is, one for Ryan seeing who Pam can be, and one for Pam not getting it yet for herself. But she's almost there! She's so close! And yeah, Jim, get it together. I can really see where this characterization of him comes from, and I love the way you're doing it. Because funny, light, thoughtful guys like Jim can also have the other side of being passive-aggressive, needing to be right, needing to be safe, and not noticing underlying changes in others. (Not that I'm bitter or anything!)

He sings both in the movie. The scene I'm referring to has him singing You Were Meant for Me. It's also featured in the movie The Object of My Affection and ummm...also Xanadu. Ahem. Anyway. He was well aware of the fact that what he was contemplating (no, planning) could result in the loss of his job; after all, the very definition of a documentary stipulated that the cameramen not alter the natural course of events or become actively involved with the subjects in any way.
Even more than that, though, he understood that to do this would be to tread a dangerous line; it was rather like playing god in some ways.

My attempt at working it all out. This will span ten chapters and will include flashbacks to previous episodes/seasons.
Oh, sigh. Ah. I think I was as wound up as Pam, waiting for her to come out and say it! You really, really captured the fear, doubt and insecurity between them in all the things they say and don't say, and seriously, I think I held my breath for the entire chapter! Really wonderful. Annnnd now maybe I can breathe again ;)

I'm a little choked up :) I especially love Jimmy bringing his sister a popsicle - I can just see him doing that solemn, dark haired 8-year-old thing kids do when they're very scared and very sad because something is wrong so they try to fix it and hold out the popsicle at arms length and really really hope that it was the right thing.

Hm, I'm not sure how I feel about this. Don't get me wrong, you've done a great job (congrats on your first foray into smut! well done!), but for me, this borders on "dubious consent." Jim cheating on Karen and taking Pam almost by force, with no knowledge of his motives or feelings, seems OOC to me. Maybe if there was more of a set up? Anyway, nice smutting :)
